Bush had significant impacts on the American people. On August 15, 1971, a global economic event known as the "Nixon Shock" occurred when President Nixon ended the dollar's convertibility to gold, leading to economic instability in the 1970s such as hyperinflation and stagflation. Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover supported policies of deregulation and tax cuts for the wealthy, which contributed to the Great Depression. Hoover exacerbated the Depression with the Smoot-Hawley tariff. Reagan's deregulation and tax cuts were factors in the stock market crash of 1987 and contributed to the conditions leading to the Great Recession of 2007 under G.W. Bush. The recession of 1937 was caused by reduced government spending and tightening monetary policy during the recovery from the Great Depression. The spending cuts, supported by conservative Democrats and Republicans, exceeded the small reduction suggested by FDR. Additionally, the Federal Reserve's actions to double reserve requirements further hurt the United States' recovery from the Great Depression. What do these events have in common? They occurred under Republican administrations. From my observation, Republicans often rely on ignorance to obtain power. James Madison wrote in 1822: “Learned institutions ought to be favorite objects with every free person. They throw that light over the public mind, which is the best security against crafty & dangerous encroachments on public liberty.” Our founders practiced Lockean values, using them to write our foundational documents. Unfortunately, our schools have failed to teach these values. John Locke, in the 17th century, created these principles, which Lincoln revered and applied in his governance. Comparing key opinions from Locke and the Founders reveals that they expected these values to manage and grow the country they left in our care. The pandemic proved that our leaders, voters, and schools have failed the Founders. During the pandemic, manufacturing shutdowns disrupted supply chains, creating scarcity. Unchecked aggregate spending amplified inflation by increasing demand without addressing supply constraints. A Lockean leader has a responsibility to educate citizens on these dynamics to prevent economic instability. However, Trump missed this opportunity to explain how non-essential spending during supply chain disruptions triggers inflation. This failure to inform and guide the nation undermines the economic security Locke and the Founders saw as vital to the public good. Aggregate spending consists of three main components: government spending, business investment, and consumer spending. During the pandemic, inflation surged as supply chain disruptions limited production while consumer demand spiked, with more dollars chasing fewer goods. Additionally, government relief measures increased spending power. Inflation arises when demand outpaces production capacity, a dynamic that highlights the importance of public understanding of economic factors.
FDR's policies were simply doubling and tripling down on Hoover's government intervention. And the new deal never ended the depression. The business of war did.
Thank you so much!!! I urge everyone to watch Sharon Stone's speech from Italy!!! Sharon talks about America being an adolescent nation!!! And that uneducated and ignorant people were responsible for Trump's victory!!!
Economics 101, very few, if any ever , sat through such a class. And Reaganomics meant trickle down cuts to the public schooling systems throughout the Country. They did away with Economics. And to grasp economic policies one does not need to hold a degree of economy, but it has to follow trends over time, preferably abroad. The median American insular and provincial mindset does not help much to that account.

@bfreezy7 Not to mention tariffs are not a new policy created by Donald Trump. He also used them during his first presidency vs. China with bad results.
The analysis is incorrect because it leaves a key piece out. If an item costs $50 and there is a $25 tariff then, yes, the cost is $75. What is being ignored is the retail mark-up will also include the cost of the tariff. If a retailer takes a ‘keystone’ or 50% margin then the $50 item now retails for $100. If the item is now $75, the new retail is $150- there will be a margin on the tariff as well. It’s not as if the tariff is a flat fee that gets pulled out. Someone incurs the cost,
All people cared about is that they didn't have to hear Kamala's voice for the next 4 years. Hopefully congress wont be a rubber stamp on Trump's policies.

If Trump has no plans to tariff stuff that Americans don't make, will this mean that more Americans will actually invest their time, money, and labor into harvesting produce or will America have to pay more for groceries because too many Americans don't actually want to do manual agricultural labor?
The US actually grows more produce than Mexico. The only reason you see all that Mexican grown produce in Walmart is because there are no tariffs and they can buy Mexican produce cheaper. Once the tariffs kick in, you'll see US grown produce on the shelves again.
@@icontrolmyownguns2096 We grow primarily feed for animals. Soy beans and corn. We used to sell it to China. After the last trade war, farmers lost a lot of money and China replaced US farmers either South American farmers. Food prices will remain sky high, and the 3% of Americans who provide the rest of us with food are going to continue to haemorrhage money. Maybe the average American consumer will start to figure out what produce is in season throughout the year and adjust their cooking accordingly…I doubt it though.
The great thing is that tariffs are, in effect, a sales tax. But we also get to pay another sales tax on top of the tax. Then we can forgive the tax owed on the trillions of dollars that are damed up by the 1 percent. This way, we can push the tax burden on to the people living paycheck to paycheck.
Tariffs could replace income tax and save Americans money in tax. If it's a 25% tariff on $10,000 in tariffed expenses it's better than being taxed 20% on a $50,000 income. Sugar is still extremely cheap, same with flour, eggs, meat, steel, etc.
Trump said he plans to do away with federal income tax and run the country from the tariff money. I don't know what it would take to cancel the IRS and federal taxes, but Trump has a majority in both houses of congress.
When I heard people falling for tariffs, or misunderstanding them, I recalled my first job post university: as a sales person for a flooring company. These were industrial floors, so the pricing could be high: sometimes 20K or more. I'd prepare quotes, close sales. I noticed a big board earl on: every sale was tracked there. End of year we'd celebrate the number. Even as a non-business person I questioned why were celebrating that number. It did not tell you much. Sure, we made money on sales, but if the cost of materials went up, if labor costs had to increase, if shipping costs increased...all of these factors would make how much we made in raw sales a bit dampened. I noticed the American public generally doesn't understand concepts like cost, revenue, etc...sure tarrifs will make companies money, they would raise their prices more just because they could. But the cost part of the equation has to come from somewhere. I looked and incredibly the company is still around, so I guess we have that reassurance.
In the early history of the United States, tariffs were the primary source of government revenue because they were easy to implement, required no income reporting by citizens, and aligned with the limited federal role envisioned by the Founders. Here’s how and why tariffs became the government’s main source of income: Definition of Tariffs Tariffs are taxes imposed on imported goods. They serve two main purposes: generating revenue for the government and protecting domestic industries by making foreign goods more expensive. Why Tariffs Were Essential 1. No Income Tax: At the founding of the U.S., there was no federal income tax (the first was introduced in 1861 and became permanent in 1913 with the 16th Amendment). Instead, the government relied on tariffs as a straightforward and reliable way to fund its operations. 2. Easier to Enforce: Unlike taxing citizens directly, tariffs could be collected at ports and border crossings. Customs officials would charge importers, reducing the need for a large federal bureaucracy. 3. Encouraging Domestic Production: Tariffs not only raised revenue but also protected fledgling American industries by making foreign goods more expensive, encouraging citizens to buy domestically produced items. Historical Role of Tariffs • Revenue Act of 1789: One of the first laws passed by Congress under the new Constitution was the Revenue Act, which established tariffs on imported goods to fund the federal government and pay off debts from the Revolutionary War. • 19th Century Dominance: Throughout the 19th century, tariffs accounted for the vast majority of federal income. For example, in the 1820s, tariffs provided more than 90% of the government’s revenue. • Economic Policy Tool: Tariffs were also a key part of early economic policy debates, particularly between agricultural Southern states, which favored free trade, and industrial Northern states, which supported protective tariffs. Decline of Tariffs as the Primary Revenue Source As the U.S. economy expanded and federal responsibilities grew, tariffs became less sufficient for funding. The Civil War prompted the first income tax, and by the 20th century, the U.S. increasingly relied on income taxes and other forms of revenue. The income tax became permanent in 1913, and tariffs shifted from being a primary revenue source to being used mainly for trade policy. In summary, tariffs were the original way the U.S. government funded itself because they were simple to administer, aligned with the limited government of the time, and supported domestic economic growth. Their dominance lasted until the government expanded its functions and adopted more diverse and direct forms of taxation.
Tariff regulations can be used as a kind of trade barrier imposed by countries in order to safeguard their domestically produced goods. Of course, this raises the relative price of imported products. On the World Stage it’s very complex and its history dates to the 13th century. When shipping regulations and insurance of those goods shipped were established

Our founders practiced Lockean values, using them to write our foundational documents.
Under the Biden Inc / Harris regime the Dollar has lost 25% of it Value since 2021.
That is in Effect like a an extra 25% tax on Workers and Retirees
He loves tariffs.
Has no idea what tariffs are.
Why werent you geniuses showing this 2 months ago.
It wouldn't have mattered. His followers are inexplicably loyal.
They were, but people weren't listening.
A big thanks to the major TV networks for mostly ignoring this and other major issues until after the election! YOU are culpable for this train wreck!
The folly of tariffs was discussed in the media before the election. People simply ignored it.
This has been my confusion for months. Did any of you Trump voters ever see Ferris Bueller?
Economics 101, very few, if any ever , sat through such a class.
And Reaganomics meant trickle down cuts to the public schooling systems throughout the Country. They did away with Economics.
And to grasp economic policies one does not need to hold a degree of economy, but it has to follow trends over time, preferably abroad. The median American insular and provincial mindset does not help much to that account.
They were sleeping just like those kids.
They were at the TraKKKtor pull
Where was this reporting before November. Too little too late
Im not sure it would have done any good. This information is widely available- unfortunately the people who most need to see this don’t care to look lol
It’s just to late for a lot people
You all were watching the wrong news outlets. FOX is not your friend. Their job is and has always been to make the right look like angels and the left devils. Somewhere in between is the truth. Get ready for a s**t show. You asked for it.
MAGA is not watching CBS
Someone incurs the cost,
Why didn't this come out pre-election day to educate the voters?
All people cared about is that they didn't have to hear Kamala's voice for the next 4 years. Hopefully congress wont be a rubber stamp on Trump's policies.
It sounds so interesting that people don't know what tariffs (subcharges) means ..
Even if this report is a month late, MAGA cult members will still vote for him!
i think everyones knew this information EXCEPT for trump who isnt very bright.
you voted for him now you got to deal with him for the next 4 years, what were you thinking be shure he will blame everyone but himself for higher prices
Ask these gen Zers who are going to pay for these tariffs and you’ll understand why they overwhelmingly picked the conman.
You get what you voted for😑
Like many of Trumps bizarre quirks , trade and tariffs have been an obsession with him for many years
Yes. Trump is the first person ever in history to tax someone.
@ really, how has he done that exactly
@@NorthSeaWisdom And rightly so!
💪
@@rockycomet4587 but to not 1824.. it’s 2024. That’s why his trade and tariff policy program at a minimum, fail..let’s hope thats all we get from it
@@imperialmotoring3789Did you just literally not watch the first minute of this video?
We would like to not see another great economic crash again.
It’s bad when incompetent Presidents like himself and Hoover do it.
Remember when conservatives wanted less government interference? lol
Tariff is just sales tax. You won't even tell the difference when you get the bill.
If Trump has no plans to tariff stuff that Americans don't make, will this mean that more Americans will actually invest their time, money, and labor into harvesting produce or will America have to pay more for groceries because too many Americans don't actually want to do manual agricultural labor?
Farmers don't want American born labor because they aren't good at it.
Trump strategic?😂😂😂😂
Harris strategic 😅😅😅
The port has to renegotiate their contract in 6 weeks too this should be fun
Wait… are you telling me the chubby, orange guy behind six corporate bankruptcies might not be a business genius?
Tariffs are listed as one of the causes of 1929.
Those that don't learn from history are bound to repeat it.
We fought our war of independence to get rid of the stamp act and other tariffs. Oops.
Give MAGA some colored blocks, paper, and crayons. These are tools they can use to do math.
The great thing is that tariffs are, in effect, a sales tax. But we also get to pay another sales tax on top of the tax. Then we can forgive the tax owed on the trillions of dollars that are damed up by the 1 percent. This way, we can push the tax burden on to the people living paycheck to paycheck.
some american really think tariff means lower inflation. imagine that
Economics and home economics is no longer taught in schools. This is the result. Ignorance costs us all money.
Reaganomics.
Watch Sharon Stone's speech from Italy!!!
God help us! Nightmare
So your basically telling me all those people in Trump's speech who were laughing don't know a thing about Tariff. Where do they go to school uffffff.
Donald Trump is about as smart as a sack of hammers !!!
Live, learn, and pay more for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Ben Stein is an actual economist. He really did know the material he was teaching in that movie
Tariffs could replace income tax and save Americans money in tax. If it's a 25% tariff on $10,000 in tariffed expenses it's better than being taxed 20% on a $50,000 income. Sugar is still extremely cheap, same with flour, eggs, meat, steel, etc.
The saying "The truth hurts" downplays how much believing lies hurts and harms everyone.
I’m tarriffied of this next administration
It would be interesting if tarriff is balanced by reduced income tax.
Trump said he plans to do away with federal income tax and run the country from the tariff money. I don't know what it would take to cancel the IRS and federal taxes, but Trump has a majority in both houses of congress.
Tariffs can not replace income taxes.
WHY didn’t you report this before the election?
Nobody will save us.
The savior arrives in January.
@@BrandonRalstonUSA good luck with that.
I have to spend more prudently because of the tariffs. Inflation is just one of the country's myriad of problems.
I doubt an average American understands this report, especially MAGA
especially maga
Averagely, they have the comprehension of a 4th grader.
I know it's impossible, but I wonder what would happen if ALL (or enough) US companies made a pact to never pay any on the tariffs.
Why didn’t you air this before the election??
His supporters think this will bring back jobs to America. 😂
No one defend the laws in this country when its a bully.
Trump doesn't like Income tax for him.
But he sure likes to tax us!
Oh boy 😕
Like a stupid tax
Things are about to wayyy more expensive at the grocery store now that Trump is headed into office.
Americans should take stock of how much they’re paying for certain goods today (cereal, cars, clothes) and then in a year and see what’s what
Tariff and import duty is the same thing. American will pay those extra payment
You mispelled. Its taxriff.
In the early history of the United States, tariffs were the primary source of government revenue because they were easy to implement, required no income reporting by citizens, and aligned with the limited federal role envisioned by the Founders. Here’s how and why tariffs became the government’s main source of income:
Definition of Tariffs
Tariffs are taxes imposed on imported goods. They serve two main purposes: generating revenue for the government and protecting domestic industries by making foreign goods more expensive.
Why Tariffs Were Essential
Historical Role of Tariffs
• Revenue Act of 1789: One of the first laws passed by Congress under the new Constitution was the Revenue Act, which established tariffs on imported goods to fund the federal government and pay off debts from the Revolutionary War.
Decline of Tariffs as the Primary Revenue Source
As the U.S. economy expanded and federal responsibilities grew, tariffs became less sufficient for funding.
"Not exactly how tariffs work". "Very misleading". Why did he not straight out say "Trump is lying".
Raise them to 200%
I don’t feel that trump is intelligent enough to understand the consequences of tariffs
Tariff regulations can be used as a kind of trade barrier
imposed by countries in order to safeguard their domestically produced goods.
Of course, this raises the relative price of imported products. On the World Stage it’s very complex and its history dates to the 13th century. When shipping regulations and insurance of those goods shipped were established
“If you’re really credible” Yeah, that’s DJT.
Strange that they didn’t report on this BEFORE the election.
