Born and raised in the Tower Grove neighborhood in the 60 and 70's. Enjoy the drive through videos of the city and greater St. Louis area. Live out in Saint Charles now and still have friends in the city. Go and visit once in a while and the city still has some of its old glory but it's a shame what the current and some former mayoral and city council occupants have allowed the city to deteriorate into. Every big city has its struggles and I hope the best for my city's future. Go Cards!

I haven't been back to St. Louis for many years, but I was born in St. Louis and moved to University City in 1960, graduating from U.City High in 1965. Watching this video was very nostalgic and like a drive through these areas, which look familiar, even though many of the actual buildings post-date my living there. I'm glad a comment mentioned the 1904 World's Fair, which was in Forest Park. The Missouri History Museum in Forest Park was originally the Jefferson Memorial and when I was living there, held an entire wing of trophies and memorabilia dedicated to Charles Lindbergh for his famous transatlantic flight, including a replica of his plane The Spirit of St. Louis. I don't know whether they're still there.

Clayton Missouri is becoming 'the new downtown' with major office towers, expensive condominiums and some of the best schools in the area. It amazes me as I am old enough to remember when the tallest building in Clayton was the three story brick courthouse.

Brought back so many great memories of growing up there. I cried when you were driving through Forest Park. 😊❤
We went to the Muny every summer. It was great seeing all the Broadway shows.
I've lived all over the country and look forward to watching more of your videos.

I moved to Clayton my freshman year in high school (1993) and was so impressed by the public high school. It was miles above my hometown of Joplin, MO. Yes, Clayton is full of wealthy people who lead wealthy lives and while I am always grateful for the education and idyllic 4 years I spent there, I hated that the income inequality in STL city and countywas so blatant. How amazing would this country be if everyone was provided the type of public education I received at Clayton High School?

    • @terirutherford2935

I am a life long StL Co. resident for my entire life, 56 years, and I dread going to Clayton. There is near perpetual road construction and frequent building and utility construction going on somewhere. Then there is the parking issue. Traffic can be difficult though not always bad especially at night when it is a near ghost town. Most times it is worse than downtown St. Louis. There are some nice homes surrounding Clayton proper and gorgeous neighborhoods.

This a beautiful area of St. Louis. I hope you will some day cover more of the Central West End and the historic southside neighborhoods like Soulard, Lafayette Square, Shaw, the Tower Groves, St. Louis Hills, etc., which are among the most visually interesting places in the St. Louis area.

During the gentrification of U City I renovated several units in 708 Interdrive and 715 Limit. The units became housing for nursing students at Wash U. Threw a lot of darts at Blueberry Hill. This was cool!
BTW, I got to see "Starry Night" at the Art Museum as part of a travelling exhibition, so this city is big enough to attract international culture and trade. You should be making about $150k to live in these neighborhoods.

As I write this, at 23:00 both buildings come into view, Chase Park Plaza on the left, 100 Above the Park on the right. After he turns left, then right, the buildings disappear from view, then reappear as he passes between them at 23:23.

At 3:04, the building overlooking Shaw Park used to be the headquarters of National Prearranged Services. It was the largest provider of prearranged and prepaid funeral contracts in the US. The organization also ran a $450 million fraud from 1992-2008 that targeted customers primarily in Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas.

Or some of the gorgeous buildings on Wash U. campus. Grew up here so am very familiar with all of this but cannot see a thing. Interesting but disappointing. Close up view of the high rise? What did i miss? No offense also but Lindell Blvd. is pronounced Lin Dell with accent on first syllable, not on "dell." A blur.

I worked for Maryville College back in the day, we tried hard, but fell way short of Wash U. I have always liked St. Louis. The best botanical gardens I have personally visited were in St. Louis, and the train station is worth seeing. It is a shame that the local thugs have destroyed the city of St. Louis.
