What a pleasant painting done in a short amount of time! It proves that really stressing over the process shows in the final product.
You've expressed joy on a canvas imo.

Thank you Malcolm for an excellent demo! Trees have always seemed so complicated for me as well as the color green, but you really simplify the complex. I love how you show us the reference pic simultaneously with your canvas and color palette and even explain how to work the brush for those tree trunks to keep it all loose. I am so happy to have stumbled upon you and am now a subscriber. You are both a great artist and a fantastic teacher, too!

Love how the blue tree shadows echoe the bluish/purplish backlit foliage, that really "makes" the painting, that going back and forth between these 2 spots. Thanks for this demo !

Fantastic, Malcolm! Thank you so much for demonstrating how I to paint this reference photo. More than ever, I would love to walk on that pathway! And isn't that what a painting should inspire??? Also, I never thought of looking at the masters for a specific situation. That is great advice. I'm going to tackle this soon, which will probably take me hours, and yet once again, you made it look so easy. I greatly appreciate this video.

Claude Monet was so fond of my great great uncle's oak trees that were painted at Fontainebleau, he made copies of them as well as named the paintings after him. They are called the Bodmer Oak. My uncle's name was Carl Bodmer. His journey with German Prince Maximilian in America is similar to that of Louis and Clark, finished less than 20 years after theirs. He exhibited paintings at the solon in Paris in 1850 and has amazing records of original American landscape and natives in artwork. Not only are we relatives, but have experience in the same countries, cities and are both artists. It must run in the family. 😂

As usual, you are an outstanding teacher and artist...wow! This video is just what I needed, as my work is oriented towards an impressionistic style. Benn diong a lot of painting for commissions and the scope of those are impressionistic, with a few being very detailed in structure....this makes going 100% going impressionist somewhat difficult. Best to you Malcolm.

What a brilliant video, and really helpful, thank you! It's something that I really struggle with too.
My big problem I find is painting areas of fields of grass or moorland where it gets close and in the foreground. I don't want it a big boring flat green, I don't want to paint individual blades of grass, and I still want to create a sense of depth, and trying to manage all those things totally baffles me.
