Here's a video about goofy ah slime people who have next to no information about them in the Spelljammer 5e release. I think they're a super fun concept that were left at the "concept" stage, then pushed out too quick. But if you want to re-imagine them, slap this goop all over your campaigns!

Yay! Welcome Back!
I just noticed you were gone like, two days ago. Welcome back.
HE'S BACK, WHAT A GOOD WAY TO START 2023!!!

Are you sure this isn’t Christmas of 2022?
Runesmith just cut his way out of D&D's stomach, and he's here to report his findings.
Glad to see you back. Hope book stuff has gone well.
Okay, hear me out: Run a mini-adventure with the party getting called on for help with pirates. The pirates turn out to be these guys. You go to find their base and find the "boss". Boss turns out to be the lackey of a plasmoid dragon...who is wearing a pirate hat. With a little jelly cube on its shoulder that has metal feathers sticking out of it.
Fursona idea acquired

You okay with me stealing that solid gold idea for my table, fellow human?
@@theflameingredpanda659 lmfao
@@cheesy_87 Only of you share what happens. XD
I play a plasmoid in a few games. Its crazy how often DMs will just give you abilities because they find the baseline plasmoid lacking. Like being able to make a vial of acid every day or being able to do weird ooze things that aren't listed.
I actually made a slime race with a friend before the plasmoid came out, treating them more like the classic RPG slimes with elemental variants and more humanoid. They got stretchy arms, an immunity and a weakness, and a (hopefully) cool ability that varies with subrace. It's fun in my games.
Baseline plasmoid IS pretty disappointing, though...
I mean yeah the baseline plasmoid is lacking and I would absolutely give players more features on it.
It has such damn potential and yet mechanically its really limited
@@dashyburd that sounds really cool! Have you shared the details online anywhere?
@@BeaDSM I have them all in a google doc, dunno if I can share that here without getting yeeted
The sheer threatening aura of flubber with a gun is astounding.
THE RETURN OF THE KING 👑👑👑
When the realm needed him most..
He came back. Welcome back Runesmith!
My favourite concept for a plasmoid I've ever had was a GOOlock who was an Oblex that consumed a powerful psion and their personality sort of subsumed that of the Oblex. My plan was that he thinks he is the psion turned into a slime but instead he's a slime that thinks it's the psion, the psion is straight up dead and his soul is in the afterlife, like early Swamp Thing.
Don't mind me, I'll just be over here having Bug Fables flashbacks.
That's an interesting idea
Woah, spoiler
@@aaronsirkman8375 my guy, the comic is like 40 years old at this point
@@Neutral_Tired That's the Joke.
Honestly, with how little lore we get from this book, there might need to be a Making Better Plasmoids video in the future.
that would be interesting though at the same time there really is no need to make Plasmoids any more deeper in lore. they are weird space things and there existence and history being somewhat of a mystery makes alot of sense
The plasmoids can be traced back to the 1983 Sci-Fi RPG Star Frontiers where they were called Dralasites. Their description read as follows: Dralasites are rubbery, elastic aliens sometimes called "blobs." They can change their shape at will, creating as many artificial arms and legs (pseudopods) as they need at the moment. They are stronger than Humans, but are also slower. They enjoy philosophical debates and have a very strange sense of humor; they love telling old jokes and puns they hear from Humans.
@@chthonicmusings188 uh i don't think that counts. especially given its age.
@@joedatius That's fine if they're just a weird thing you encounter once or twice, but it's a bit different if they become a major element of a campaign, or if you're, y'know, playing one. Since they're a player race.
Plasmoids are a cool concept, but that's all they are in the official material, a concept. If Logan or somebody else made a good backstory for them then that could help more tables tell better and more interesting stories using them. Pointy Hat, another TH-camr, makes videos like this where he takes something from D&D and puts a spin on it. It's a great resource for DMs and even if you don't DM (I don't) then it's still interesting to hear about. 3rd party content is the lifeblood of D&D so some 3rd party story ideas about gelatinous space dudes is something I'd gladly welcome more of.
I imagine the boss plasmoids uncanny dodge is just them just splitting and putting holes in their body where stuff was going to hit them
Logia fruits in one piece
Now I want to make a plasmoid rogue lmao
Welcome back Runesmith! Even if D&D goes down, we'll still be here to watch whatever creative things you come up with
I second this very correct notion!
I have no interest to play any superhero rpg but i sure have seen every city of mists video haha
Why would D&D as a whole go down? You can still play it. Just like many people are still playing 3.5
I, for one, would love more City of Mist or any other TTRPGs...but really, MORE FAIRYTALES!!!
I feel like plasmoids don't actually have any relation to oozes at all, and instead are just like, hyper-evolved amoebas.
its like they were afraid to give them anything that makes sense that would also be too "good" I guess like blind sight and whatnot, sometimes game balance gets in the way of cool stuff
Really good to see you back, man. I feel the need to put projects on hold thanks to the absurd circumstances, but it's so good to see you making content!
Take as much time as you need your content is appreciated wether it’s bi weekly or once or twice a year
Wizard is never late….he arrives precisely when we means to.
I’m reminded of when I played GURPS once. I chose to be a giant amoeba that used a clothing store mannequin as a “shell” to give it a mobile, bipedal shape
Aksually, talking isn't just "pushing air through holes". "Pushing air through holes" includes sighing meowing and mooing. And farting. Talking involves the interaction of air, the vocal cords, the tongue, the palate, the lips and even the teeth.
But it's still a long hole... that you push air through... to talk... a complicated hole
Perfect timing, because i was just about to make one based on the slime y'all met yesterday during dnd. He's a small plasmoid thief rogue that loves stealing shiny things
been a while
and now it's about plasmoids
i fucking love plasmoids
I fucking love plasmoids, especially the ones with no defining features. Like no neck, no hands, no feet, just pseudopods and no visible nerves. I wish they didn't speak common because it would be so funny if they just blorped, I at least wish they had their own language. The picture of them riding the giant space hamster is just perfection. They're just little guys pretending to be people and I love them.
Welcome back! I'm actually playing an ooze in my current campaign, but had to go with a custom one because it started before even the unearthed arcana plasmoid.
I homebrewed a ghaunadan with my DM and it's been and it's a blast.
Sitting in the cafeteria after my last class for the day and had to do a double take at Runesmith in my notifications. This is a good day. Good to see you back, and hopefully you pull through with this whole licensing mess.
I had a plasmoid and when I found out they could fit into like 1 inch spaces I crawled into an enemies throat in order to interrogate him for information. Needless to say my group was horrified and kind of hype cuz thats dark af
Nothing like effed up interrogation methods to get hyped with the boys. Shoutout to our dwarf who relieved a prisoner of his head to make a point.

WELCOME BACK TO 2023 I GUESS BUT GOSH DANG MAN, REALLY HAD TO DO ME LIKE THAT
His opening about making 3ed party dnd books made me laugh so hard I cried. And kept crying. And curl up into the fetal position a little. And maybe scream-sob a bit. Still in tears right now in fact.
Just a fun thing these and the bat wing ones (i guess flying squirril ones). were introduced into spelljammer by TSR employees after and 80s game called star fronteirs got canceled and are bassically lightly modified versions of the sci-fi races.
So while slimeboy is still slime boy for the most part, the hadozee were originally called yazirians which were presented as bat like but without full slight and even needed special goggles to see properly during the day. these were then ported for star fronteirs where nocturnal got dropped and they got the mindflayer orgins with the culture being moved off of their warrior state. also slimes used to have a lie detector abillity and noticibly more culture flavor text including liking the bug aliens more than the other aliens because they "think vrusks have funny shapes." They also have steam baths that work in a similer mannor to alcohol
I was searching to see if anyone else had commented on this before I stated the exact same thing.
@@justanotherdayinthelife9841 I'm a fan of star fronteirs. At least in theory can't seem to convince my players to try it, but own almost all the books, some of the best sci-fi I've read in genneral, just missing a few modules
as a newbie in dnd, i find this to be a perfect starting character, i already made my character, a level 8 plasmoid fighter named Goobert
You picked a bad time to come home to Skyrim kinsman.
Just when I thought a TPK was about to occur, my life DM just brought back my favourite reoccurring character!
Everyone reflavoring them to look like a human made of slime:
Great to see you back - would love to hear your perspective on the OGL - specifically how it’s affecting you - are you doing ok?
Plasmoids are essentially Dralasites (a central nerve bundle (brain), numerous small hearts and other internal organs floating in a pudding-like mixture of protein and organic fluids) pulled from the TSR Star Frontiers game.
DND Jesus has returned
Logan, I’ve been missing your content like you would not believe. I probably rewatched your Basically series twice times a month every month during your hiatus.
Glad you took some much needed time off, even more glad to see you’re back!
When the community needed him most, HE RETURNED! 🙌
I think it was Spelljammer that established that outer space is full of breathable air instead of vaccuum. It makes flying around space in magic propelled wooden ships a lot easier.
The whole situation with D&D's management makes me increasingly sad, but it's a nice surprise to see you back. Hopefully you enjoyed your break, nothing wrong with taking them.
Happy to have YOU back! These videos are like having a sonic equivalent of sitting under a cozy blanket, next to a warm fire, on a cold night, poured into your ears.
Yay! Welcome back! I missed this kinda vids
Also speaking of wacky dnd physics, gotta remember that space in dnd basically gives you your own gravitational field that lets you have oxygen so plasmoids probably touch down on a planet to "refuel" their oxygen bubble before heading back out into the astral sea
Welcome back, we have missed you. Make sure to take all the breaks you need
I recently found your channel and binged the whole basically D&D playlist. I was super sad to see the last video was so long ago!
Another great vid. ^^ Glad that you came back. I was wondering what may have been going on, what with the OGL and everything. Seeing how he made Stibbles Codex, among other things, I imagine Runesmith would not want the current OGL, considering that pretty much no one benefits from it, except Hasbro and those who were bought off maybe.
The older lore on plasmids was more in depth, but the new stats suggest this is a new, third subspecies of plasmids
I'm so glad you're back!
Starfinder has Entu Colonies and Symbiotes, which are a similar playable fungal oozes who have spider-man symbiote powers and feed on emotions, giving them the ability to sense thinking creatures through walls. I've got a biohacker medical doctor Entu Colony with personal space issues and a poor understanding of vertebrate anatomy and they've been extremely fun to play.
A mere two days before my next campaign, Runesmith posts again. Magnificent timing 👌

Welcome back. Your refreshingly goofy take on all *gestures expensively* this has been sorely missed.
I am so relieved when the American youtubers I follow come back after hiatus/work. I always fret that they're another notch on Covid's scythe. Its good to see you back in action Runeman.
It’s good to have you back runesmith

Plasmoids. Dralasites from Star Frontiers for Spelljammer. I think of Gloop and Gleep from the Herculoids. If you don't get that reference, we can't be friends.

Lol they really just said "here's an ooze guy with a random statblock, idk how it works figure it out yourselves"
I think it would still be nice to hear what you have to say about being a creator and what it takes to make and publish a good book. I think now more than ever, both established and newcoming 3rd party creators need everything they can to feel supported, heard, and united in these trying times. I know I as someone working on their first written projects would find your insight helpful to not only make my content better, but to also maybe understand how to navigate the bludgeoning that WOTC is doing to our community rn. Either way, thank you for all the work that you do and it's great to see that you're back :)
I found myself checking your last uploaded vid around a month ago wondering where you went. Glad you're back!
Welcome back, deadpan funny man
The king has returned
I’ve got a Plasmoid character that’s basically a drop from some Aatral Elder God.
He himself looks like a black void person with constellations inside him as his nerve cluster. He’s a beast barbarian as his rages activate little constellations inside him that cause him to go into various forms of elditch monster.
He basically goes from looking like a black mage with an axe to looking like Naruto’s berserk Nine Tails mode.
His name is Goop and he’s your friend now.
(Additionally while eating he tries to copy his friends eating but basically just sticks food in his “mouth” and does the pop cat thing)
"You need a brain, otherwise the nerves aren't usable" like, no? Jellyfish. To be fair, they do have two nervous systems, one that's movement, the other that's everything else.
Your videos are the only thing that dnd need now, we love you logan
0:24 i wanna dab an ooze
Welcome back Runesmith! I have to say I am super glad you are back, you made some of the best TTRPG content out there, and I tend to always go back to your videos for ideas. Can't wait for more of your content.
Glad to see WotC's D&D design team phoning it in like always.
The lore design team must have Jumped off a cliff since Tashas when it comes to source books.
Cool, I like your channel. It helped me out making my alt history Playlist called the origin of species.
Space goop you can turn Into living armor. Venom is that you?
Hell fucking yes. I hope your year off was good for ya man!
*AND WE BACK~*
They have barely any lore that I've been just sitting here thinking about how I'd do slime more for the last hour.
Runesmith
*Drags Cigarette*
That's a name I haven't heard in ages
He's finally back... we're still worthy!
I was so afraid Runesmith was gone forever. I love that you're back my dude. In these troubled times we needed some basic explenations
Btw, nothing needs to breathe in the astral plane because it's a weird place that has very different rules to other planes. That's why they still need to breath, kinda like aerobic monocelular organisms on earth. Also, their nerves still work despite their lack of a brain, you can clearly see a lump in their nervous system(if that's what it is) that would function as an equivalent, even then nerves still work in species without brains like jellyfish.
Welcome back brotha! Now time to rewatch all your vids!
You can breathe in D&D wild space actually, It's this pinkish mist that you can both breathe and also stops you from aging
Basically Plasmoids: Return of the King.
I believe that the big one got uncanny dodge because when you are about to hit it, it will just retract that specific zone, like a living liquid you know
HE HAS RETURNED!
I played a plasmoid for most of Beyond the Witchlight. The story went that I was a human who had his shape taken away for sneaking into the carnival.
Lookin forward to more Runesmith videos!
I’m running a campaign right now and my friend is playing an ooze that used to be part of jubilex but split off. Now he is trying to evade him so he isn’t consumed and put back
He returns!!!
Glad you have you back. Hope your break went well
I think Plasmoids could be an interesting template for a "colony" style character. You get 20-40 little "mini-oozes" that can transform themselves into different types. From hardened structural oozes making up your bones, sensory oozes acting as your eyes/ears, digestion/circulatory oozes to keep everyone fed. Also, your HP is literally represented by your mini-ooze count, where if you take damage, that means that many mini-oozes are essentially turned off until you can heal. But, on the bright side, you aren't totally knocked out of the fight if you lose a limb, you just need to do some quick rearranging and you can be back in the fight.
Runesmith is living that meme where a guy comes back with pizza to find the room is on fire and everyone is fighting.
5e source books really dropped the ball in the lore department. It's comical how reading their stuff leave you with more questions than answers.
Read the 2e version of Spelljammer.
I loved the subtle shots at you-know-who. 🤣 Welcome back Runesmith. 🙂
I literally started watching the channel a week ago. Had no idea you took a break lol!
Yay more Runesmith, glad to have you back!
Glad to see you’re back!
If you’re casting a wider net, perhaps looking at some of the most iconic creatures of other tabletop systems’ worlds could be fun. Pathfinder/2e goblins, anyone?
In the Astral Plane you don't need to breathe anyone can chill there, it's also timeless basically. In Wild Space there is no air except the one you bring with you. The more you know
F*** Astral Space.
