  • Here is the second episode in my new series 'Junk Journal With Me' where I share how I go about using my junk journal for creative journalling. Today's episode shows me documenting photographs, a shopping list, mother's day notes and papers, and a pressed flower.
    Thanks for watching!

    It is truly amazing how you create something so beautiful with bits and pieces. I find it difficult to do, but I guess that you've been doing it for a while, maybe it's just a matter of practicing. Anyways, beautiful and inspiring as always!

    how on earth do you tear up little scraps, rough cut shapes, put clashing unmatched tapes on the same page, not measure anything, staple it, glue it and plonk it just anywhere... and make it look so whimsically beautiful???
    I'm just like... 😵????
    I go nuts if things aren't lined up precisely, matted and layered with colour coordinating papers, add tapes or ribbons so straight you could cut your fingers on them... and I still doubt everything I make and think it's not good enough!
    I've tried to just throw something together and have torn edges rather than cut, doodled on and overlapping... and it looks like a hot mess from a toddler's play group! 😰
    I had to subscribe! I am amazed you could make something so beautiful from such basic items and no precision!!!!

    • @tamielizabethallaway2413
      @tamielizabethallaway2413 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      S. 224 I do agree! however I am also very creative but just cannot work without struggling with "randomness" no matter how hard I try! if I throw things down they look like they were thrown in the trash! if I make a tiny mistake it will ruin the whole thing for me unless I fix it because I know it's there! ideas, layouts, designs, trying new techniques, the quality of the finished item etc is always of a good standard and not just a basic beginner standard, but I just cannot for the life of me just throw something together and it just happens to be good! I've been making things since I was a toddler and have been upcycling for almost as long as that...and not just because it's fashionable to do so, I look at everything and see something else it can become! but the ability to be able to go with the flow or not think too much about it.... totally eludes me! I could make this exact same spread in the exact same way, but I'd never think it was beautiful if I'd done it. I can see and appreciate the beauty of this, but I can't do it! aaarrrggghhh!!! 😊

      Tami Elizabeth Allaway thank you so much 😊 I really just think it's about your mindset. When i'm journalling it is very carefree and there is almost zero focus on the finished page- to me it's really just enjoying the process and having fun! There is no pressure on myself whatsoever to create something that looks amazing, because it's MY journal! yes it's fun to make it pretty, but it doesn't matter if it isn't! Now with my handmade books, that's another story! they take many many hours to get them 'perfect.' So I totally get wanting perfection when it comes to some things in art! I guess I change my approach depending on the project

      Tami Elizabeth Allaway her free spirited personality is probably a huge help as well. I admire Johanna’s process so much! Hardly ever do I find many unique to their own junk journal artists. It’s always so refreshing to find someone who takes a different approach. Someone who stands out from the rest if you will. :)

    Hello Ms Johanna!! I just wanted to say how much of an inspiration you have been to my crafting. I absolutely love your style and creativity!! I was wondering if you wouldn't mind pointing me in the right direction for finding such wonderful vintage pieces? Specifically book pages and ephemera? I just found out I am expecting my first baby!! So I'm looking to make a pregnancy journal and incorporate some vintage pieces, any help would be so wonderful on where to find good pieces. Many many blessings to you and your family!

    Re the glue stick, my husband brought home PaperMate Glue Stix for me to try and it's brilliant. It's much better than the Bostik or Uhu ones. Stuff that wouldn't stick for me now does so I'm happy :D Not sure which but it's from either Coles or Woolies. I love keeping those windowed envelopes too.

    • @JohannaClough
      @JohannaClough  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JoAnn Hohl hey Joann, no I haven't done an updated video on the writing journal, i do still use it just for writing but it is really my most 'personal' journal where it is the most unfiltered so I would be more reluctant to show my written entries however I might do some kind of update where you can see how I use those pages for writing xx

    • @JohannaClough
      @JohannaClough  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      phennec i don't always date! sometimes i'll date my writing or sometimes i'll just date a photograph but a lot of the time the page is an eclectic mix of things from a period of a week or so- so if dating doesn't seem so truthful for the entire page i'll just leave it undated x

  • @tracyzook857

    Window envelope got me thinking. So, do you have a lot of supplies? Keep thinking I should save things but we get a lot of junk mail and just
    the ephemera from vacations/life in general seem to pile up, become clutter instead of getting used. How do you keep your
    supplies under control?

    • @JohannaClough
      @JohannaClough  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tracy Zook hi Tracy! I recently put up a craft room tour and a video of my favourite journalling supplies which goes into detail about how I keep my supplies under control- but basically I have a smaller amount of journalling supplies by me to choose from, kept seperate from the rest of my stash. Since I make handmade journals for etsy, I do have a pretty nice collection of supplies so I find it much easier to have a small selection for my personal use. The ephemera I keep from life does pile up, but if you can journal atleast once a week it keeps it at a pretty manageable level! X

    just a quick question: would you recommend buying a journal with a spiral binder? or do you think it disrupts the flow of the page too much? would love to hear your thoughts!

    • @JohannaClough
      @JohannaClough  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tess W it purely depends on how you journal, i personally would only really choose a spiral bound book for writing because I know my creative journalling would get too bulky for that kind of binding, just depends!
