My favourite Rajiv Rai film is Gupt (1997). One of the best storylines. Ever. Also, Rajiv Rai was the director who successfully introduced Nasiruddin Shah in the commercial arena as Shah till that time was doing only art films. Till date no director could utilise Shah's talent in commercial cinema like Rajiv Rai did.

One of my friends and I have reviewed/dissected every second of what we call the "Rajiv Rai Trilogy" - Tridev, Vishwatma, and Mohra. They are epic-level movies and bring back a lot of good memories. The names of characters, as Jamie mentioned, are out of the world and so are the dialogues. In Mohra, the late Gavin Packard plays an international smuggler called Mr. Dunhill...who is introduced as "Poore Europe mein inka sikka chalta hai". But the top scene for me is in Vishwatma where Ajgar Jurhad and Madan Bhardwaj meet for a discussion with their alliance partners. Madan Bhardwaj taunts Ajgar "Humaare vyapaari bhaiyon ka dukh pareshaani aur faisla bhi tumne sun liya Ajgar...ab apna teem taam uthaao aur apne Tuchonn ke saath kisi doosre sheher ka raasta naapo. Meri nazar mein teri Aukaat uss Ajgar se zyaada nahi jisse sapera gale mein latka kar logon se chuaraahe pe Rupya Do Rupya Ainth liya karta hai".

I just happened to see your video on Rajiv Rai. I loved your channel and good to know you speak Hindi so well . Tussi born n brought up in India?? I have been fan of Trimurti Films especially for his Masala movie , watching all gang of villians and the foot tapping music by Viju Shah. The characters like bhujang, ajgar jurrat, tapsvi gunjal, Tyson were quite funny. Naseeruddin Shah was also part of Gupt and was offered the role cop but unfortunately he wasn't available due to dates and Naseer ji himself asked Mr. Rai to cast Om Puri for thie role. Om Puri was brilliant. I'm eagerly waiting for his next.. heard the buz about he collaborating with Salman Khan. Hope he is back wid a bang! My dad were good old neighbours with the legend Gulshan Rai's family at Mahim in 60's. My father shares some of great memories with Gulshan Rai, Kidar Sharma, Sayyed Mirza & Aziz Mirza who all used to stay at the same block in Mahim.
I was of that era, but unfortunately I havent seen any of his films on big screen....I hope they get re-released in theatres celebrating Rajiv Rai....what to say about Viju Shah...till today i didnt know his songs were copied/inspired from somewhere else, but his music was way ahead in that era....I used to hear those songs full volume on my videocon deck especially tip tip.....those days....till today I listen to songs of Gupt....
