The thing I always stand by in the cardio/no cardio argument is this; cardio will help you to burn fat at a greater rate than heavy lifts alone, cardio will help to keep healthy blood flow throughout your body, cardio helps with controlling your breathing under stress thus helping you to maintain oxygen flow to your cells. One of the things that body builders and strongmen have to worry about is proper blood flow to reduce the risk of a heart attack, cardio absolutely helps with this but should, like all exercises, be used in moderation to not I just yourself. Build a plan that has a rise and fall to your gains, building muscle up you reduce cardio, trimming down increase cardio. Simple.
Your heart is also a muscle and probably one of the most important one because it is at the center of your circulation system. Heart disease is the top cause of early death. Also it is closely related to cognitive performance.
Don’t rest more than a minute in between sets and you essentially get cardio. As your heart will be at an elevated rate consistently throughout your workout
So if your fat and have an elevated heart rate consistently your doing cardio 24/7 ? Your not doing cardio just because your heart rate is elevated lmao
Jay's short rest high volume training was cardiovascular endurance training. If u do low volume with long rest times adding 30min of low intense cardio a few times a week will be beneficial.
Arnold & Franco were doing the high volume short rest workouts back in the 60’s. Honestly if you want to do each body part 2-3 times a week, it’s a necessity.
Ok what about for somebody who is 350 pounds 6’4 that’s trying to get to around 270 should i focus on cardio more heavy or just lift weights and eat right?
Calorie deficit is a must. Then lift and do cardio as long as you don't feel fatigued. Feel what is easier and comfortable for YOUR body and stick to it.
Do heavy compound lifts for your training, and keep your rest times somewhat short. You’ll burn way more calories than walking for an hour. Just about doing machines at the gym, or small isolated movements- those burn way less calories and build way less muscle.
Diet dude. Same situation here. High volume workouts with consistency and low intensity cardio like treadmill and walks. Weight is melting off, no joint pain, feeling great.
Cardio exercise has very little to do with fat loss. Diet, diet, diet. I lost 50lbs in less than 6 months and did no cardio at all. I changed my diet. Eat more (and smarter) and weight train hard. The fat will burn off you. Busting your ass on static cardio on a treadmill will do nothing for you.
Well you're trying to lose weight. So Skip the weights. I'm trying to bulk to combat my fast metabolism so I'm skipping the cardio. Simple. You're trying to lose not gain so you shouldn't even be thinking about lifting weights. Put all your energy into getting to 270 and once you get there THEN lift it you wanna put on muscle. You don't have to tho. Jays talking to bodybuilding fanatics that are hunting a larger physique
That’s not what cardio is for. Cardio is for heart health. When you’re heart is healthy you can pump blood more efficiently into your muscles which aids in recovery and growth. People too lazy to throw in a couple cardio sessions a week always have some argument like this.
Same, I can't use a treadmill. Makes me feel like a hamster. Cardio for me, which I rarely do is basketball with me running constantly for like 2 hours straight. I can do the bike but that's a leg workout imo. I'd run at the town park before I got on a TREADMILL😂
Agreed I lost 46lbs just doing intermittent fasting and Weights, zero cardio. Now stopped fasting and putting on way more muscle, still zero cardio and hardly any fat that isn't lean .💪🏼
Nice i do weightlifting as the primary aspect of my training (around 4-5 hours a week) and do 3 8k runs which usually take about 40 minutes each. Cardio makes you feel way better after as opposed to weights in my opinion but weights are their own fun in a dreaded sort of way.

Keeping the stress level down... the most difficult part
Man i could watch and listen to him all day!
Cardio is essential, even when bodybuilding. DO NOT SKIP.
If your a bodybuilder then the GH and IGF -1 will keep you lean and condintioned
I do cardio because I want to be athletic. That endurance that one can gain from doing consistent cardio is awesome
100% Agree. I went from 200lbs to 165lbs in 5 months just from starting to do workouts w/ dumbells & pushups!
Eating the same, No cardio
That’s not what cardio is for. Cardio is for heart health. When you’re heart is healthy you can pump blood more efficiently into your muscles which aids in recovery and growth. People too lazy to throw in a couple cardio sessions a week always have some argument like this.
Genetics maybe... Won't work like that for most PPL.
Yeah you have amazing genetics Jay!
Cardio helps your reach failure without being exhausted, so I'd still recommend doing it lol
"Keep your stress levels down" is under rated..
I remember Jay at Golds in Vegas. He used a wheelchair to go from one exercise to another. So he didn't have to walk.
If you are not a professional bodybuilder, cardio is absolutely essential. It should not be neglected.
When I hear the word Cardio, I think of long distance running not walking on a treadmill.
Depends what your goals are. Walking is better for fat loss whereas long distance running would be better for your cardiovascular system
@@toby7647what😂😂 if you walk and run the same distance running laps walking in terms of benefits. That is complete bs. The most I've heard all day
Same, I can't use a treadmill. Makes me feel like a hamster. Cardio for me, which I rarely do is basketball with me running constantly for like 2 hours straight. I can do the bike but that's a leg workout imo. I'd run at the town park before I got on a TREADMILL😂
Keeping stress levels dwn sounds like the hardest one.
Cardio is so important. Cardio improves circulation and open up the blood vessels
Your heart is also a muscle, the most important one.
Agreed I lost 46lbs just doing intermittent fasting and Weights, zero cardio.
Now stopped fasting and putting on way more muscle, still zero cardio and hardly any fat that isn't lean .💪🏼
starting to do hiit not just for the benefits but soccer as well, literally no reason to neglect cardio
I love your content!!🎉
Esti tare omule,am crescut cu tine❤
"stress levels" are the reason I go to the gym, Jay.
Great points James
Cardio is 👑. It’s good for the heart.
1. Cardio
2. Strength
LEGEND!
Thanks Champ! 🏆
The eating 2.5 to 3 hours was a blessing definitely feel better with more results
The legend as spoken #Facts #Period
The higher set training is the way to go, sometimes. It's good cardio and builds fast twitch muscle.
A much more productive way for building muscle, is to eat dozen donuts a day, 2 shakes, before bed , half acan of cake icing. Pack on size
Nice i do weightlifting as the primary aspect of my training (around 4-5 hours a week) and do 3 8k runs which usually take about 40 minutes each. Cardio makes you feel way better after as opposed to weights in my opinion but weights are their own fun in a dreaded sort of way.
Always fillowed Jay's techniques from 2008 onward and saw continuous results.
Good advice for me, cause I am working on putting muscle
Walking is a cardiovascular exercise in case anyone forgot. I do an hour long walk at the end of the day to unwind and it makes me feel extremely relaxed.
Truth..
Thank you 👍 Mr.Olympia J.C
This guy is a legend follow the great one
