Thanks a lot! Yeah absolutely since in space it would likely only be my ship tanking the damage and, of course, the swarms that I'd have to flak each wave. PITA. However, if I managed to get friends that worship the dark god of Elite, one person could flak swarm and TV kite the goid and it would still be entirely possible to 100% it with an SLF. I think Basilisk is as far as a single SLF could go and it would have to be Lance.
Loved that, flying skills obviously made the difference but even then couldn't believe how quickly you could exert the hearts. Great watch and I have to try that soon.
It was great fun! Highly recommend. Only thing you really need to worry about is the missiles. It's gonna be a bit of a struggle against swarms though.
This is amazing! Glad your lagoon ship could tank the damage. Is it normal for the Cyclops to focus on that and ignore the SLF? Also, did you issue it any orders other than to hold fire?
Yeah the Cyclops largely ignored me cause I was never the only ship left. Pretty sure if you're the only thing around, it'll still shoot SLF's. Additionally, if there's swarms present, they usually prioritise SLF's so the AI is probably programmed to assume, "ehh the swarm's on it". I only had to issue hold fire but the EMP reset that order and I had to reissue it as shown in the video. Had I been on top of that, I think the main ship would only have suffered caustic missile damage.
@@silverstyles5646 Thanks CMDR, I've been using (relatively well) my throttle as reverse / forward during FA off...but for some reason it never seem to respond like yours...I will experiment and bind them to other controls and see if I can duplicate.
@@cmdrsaigon6453 It might make more sense to you, then, to leave your throttle alone and bind keys to forward/reverse thrusters. That way you can have a "go foward now" and "go backward now" button!
The SLF might be able to exert a Basilisk but likely not a Medusa. However, having one manned whilst fighting them would make exertions a lot easier for the main pilot. See my Guardian VS Medusa video. I actually played sloppy as anything and still managed to succeed.
@@cncmasterw That would be fantastic! I don't know what the life expectancy would be, but having an SLF that could tie up or destroy swarms would take a lot of pressure off the mothership.
Amazing video! I want to ask, would you be willing to share the curves you used? I've been trying to find a sweet spot for me to build off but so far I haven't been able to
Sure, if you're using VKB's you can plug these into the VKB device config tool, the yaw and pitch curves are both the same: 9, 19, 29, 40, 52, 64, 77, 92, 108, 128. I'm not using curves on any other axis, just pitch and yaw (except the analogue hat XY for headlook).
@@silverstyles5646 Thank you so much! If I may ask another question. What tips/practice suggestions could you give a new cmdr who is wanting to learn FA off w/ a flight stick?
@@xXTheHowlingWolfXx There's a wealth of knowledge of FA off flight over at the Newton's Gambit discord. That's the sqaudron I'm in. You can't talk to someone there without learning. In terms of flight tips from me: I dunno where you're at so I'll start with basic stuff, fly outside a station, sit still and just rotate the ship. Get a feel for having to counter its rotation. Once you're used to that, point at a ship flying around. Try not to let your reticule leave the ship. Next try following the ship, you'll notice a lot of over-reaching probably. Get used to accounting for your speed BEFORE reaching your target. Next try orbiting the ship, keep aiming at it like before but now fly around and around it but again try not to let the reticule leave it. Additional bonus challenge: Try following and aiming at a ship ....without rotating. Try not to let the reticule leave the ship. This will emphasise that with FA off, rotation and movement are completely decoupled and you can master both at once. Extra tip, remember the rear thruster is more powerful than the others. It's often more efficient to turn and forward thrust to alter your vector than to pray the verts/lats will do it. This is exactly the type of slf content I’ve been looking for. Subbed!
Awesome, thank you!
Brilliant mate. In deep space it would be harder due to the swarm being present, but this looks way more fun. Brilliant shooting!

Nice one CMDR! How did you bind the thruster to allow it to go forward and then into reverse thrust so rapidly while in FA Off?
That's due to my throttle being the twist axis on my left joystick. Really easy to fly that way.

Nice. Does that SLF have infinite ammo ? I see 1/80 after each shot.
Yes I believe they have unlimited ammo. If it's a bug, I don't care since we have to pump out SO MUCH ammo in Elite, holy damn..
