Jay makes a lot of good videos, but here he flexed and made an honest-to-God documentary. A hidden gem of TH-cam.

I remember Stirling Moss/Dennis Jenkinson winning the race in 1955. I still have DJ’s report on the race in Motor Sport magazine today.

I love pushing cars to their limit. Taking turns as fast as possible. When you feel the tires losing their grip and you push just a little more. It's definitely addictive

At 71 years old, I'm not supposed to lie here watching a video on TH-cam with tears in my eyes. This was so exciting and nostalgic and couldn't happen to a nicer custodian of automotive history. Truly a "Bucket List" event for Jay. Thanks so much for sharing it with us all!

I´ll be out on the side of the road Thursday morning near my house just outside Rimini to cheer the cars & drivers through. A bonus this year is that the Mille Miglia passes through in the morning and then the Giro d´Italia cycle race sweeps by in the afternoon. Magnificent !

Chris Harris' video of his journey on the Mille Miglia was just as magical. There's something about this event that's just so special.
That sequence from 16:40 onwards of Brundle in the D-Type is so unerringly beautiful.

My goodness! Could 27 people, (with badly broken thumbs), all have been drunk? Sad. I'm very grateful to have seen this, thank you for sharing this with us. Could there be a cooler rocker than Brian Johnson? I don't think so. 'Écurie Écosse' + AC/DC's last Scottish singer-for more than 30 years-totally awesome, (Bon was a Scottish lad, too)...+ a great narrative by Señor JāLenō. 🙏 Thanks!

I use to work for Ian, both in Italy (Ghia) and in England. In fact when Ian left Ford in 1990 he asked me to drive him to Oxford where I literally dropped him at Tom Walkinshaw's door. That's when he started working with Aston Martin. Oddly I met Jay the next year - Janett Lee and I were the first auto industry people to get involved with Leno. Another odd thing, my little brother now owns the first C-type to run Mille Miglia.

Thank you for posting this Jay. I wanted to burst out into tears of childlike excitement watching these beautiful cars being driven as they were designed to be driven.
I have been a lifelong lover of driving. I love long distance drives and consider a 100 mile drive on a winter logging road good therapy. I have a Fusion Sport with all wheel drive and twin turbos, and a new Ranger 4wd. Watching this has made me wish for my 1971 VW Super Beetle Convertible to enter into this rally. I could spend a year in Italy and not get all of the things Italian I want to do done.

I have been reading or watching things about this race most of my life. It is definitely on my bucket list but sadly after a bout with cancer and a heart attack I am limited to watching people like Jay Leno get to do it and while 10 years ago I could have easily done 15 hours behind the wheel It would be a bit of a stretch for me. For now, I will have to satisfy myself with runs up and down the California and Oregon coasts in my 1974 Alfa Romeo Spider. For me, Life doesn't get much better. Thanks for this one Jay!

when you think about the period the mille miglia ran through (1927-1957) and the cars that these people drove... you can only say men were men. people were expected to die during every race and in every race there were fatalities. the roads were mostly dirt even in the 50's and a lot of the cars prior to the first world war had more than 400 hp. in the 30's gp cars had up to 600 hp. the drivers who drove this race were legends in their own right and it truly was a golden age of racing. in 1931 tazio nuvolari would win the mille miglia driving an alfa romeo 6c, coming from second place in pitch black darkness on dirt roads and no amenities to make driving easier at all (keep in mind he was also a tiny person and had to drift the cars around corners because he couldn't turn the steering wheel if he slowed down) he switches off his lights in the middle of the night to surprise the car in front, which also happens to be his team mate, using nothing but the one rear light on the other car as a guide. he catches him up, and in the last second completely baffles his opponent when he switches on his lights and takes the lead to win the race. if that isn't legendary, then i don't know what is...

R.I.P. Sir Stirling Moss (1929-2020) "He defined his era of racing as much as it defined him and that time was a very special and formative one. Moss is a name that is woven indelibly into the sport’s very fabric. We will not see his like again." (Mark Hughes wring in Motor Sport Magazine.

In '66 I got out of high school and during the summer found a 1954 XK120 in a used car lot for 1200 dollars. Got me hooked on cars as well. Low miles, white-red leather with steel wheels and rear fender skirts. Man said it was owned by Augie Papst. Original books and tool kit, terrible heater and had a plaque on the dash stating it to be a replica of the car that hit 137MPH in Belgium. All the canvas was original and it had that smell. I kept that and wound up with a few more...worked my butt off until I was drafted. College? Nope..cars. While I was gone my mother sold the works. I came home and my cars were gone. Never could replace any of them, life just took over. I'm 65 now and everytime I see one I almost cry.1200 dollars.

I keep coming back to this video to hear the lovely classic sounds produced by those Jag's...have to admit i've been a fan of them, but boy they sound nice

This is an absolutely thrilling and thoroughly enjoyable video to watch. Jay should at least win an Oscar - even if they don't win the race. I never comment on videos. But this was spectacular. Thanks so much for making this and sharing it with the world, Mr. Leno and crew.
