  • Inside this mountain bike Mecca, we’ve found some of the best trails we’ve ever ridden! Being here for only 3 days made it hard to ride these amazing trails multiple times. But out of everything we rode, these five were our favourite! (In no particular order because it was too hard to rank!) These purpose-built single tracks are unbeatable. There’s something so exhilarating in travelling and mountain biking… It’s a means of experiencing culture, adventure, freedom and just a great way to see more.
    Split Enz
Split Enz is essentially all DH with minimal pedalling needed. There’s well spaced out tables, occasional turns to keep you on your toes and even though it’s exposed to the elements, you’re treated to this beautiful scenic descent. There’s really not much more you’d want in a flow trail. On average, this trail takes about 10 minutes. That’s 10 minutes of descending! Friggin amazing, hence the burning. You’ll find a fair few trails here that enter and exit the forest. That’s pretty darn special.
    Tuhoto Ariki
This is a techy XC trail starting at the highest point of the Whaka Forest. There’s some punchy climbs but also raw and rough downhill segments, giving you a good glimpse of the native bush. Dave and I love a bit of tech and climbing, so if that’s what you’re also into, this is one for you! You can link up to split enz at the end of this trail by turning left up Moerangi rd. And riding Timewarp making it an unbelievable loop where you get to see the variety this trail network offers.
    G-Rock
Here’s G-Rock, a connecting trail from Billy T into Rollercoaster. This trail is exposed but somehow the logged area keeps its beauty.
Even though it’s an easier trail, it’s still great fun for faster riders to try and keep speed around the S bends and off the surprise stump drops.
Filled with high berms you need to keep speed for
    Hot X Buns
One of the mechanics of mtb rotorua told us this was a must-do. we’re so glad we took the time to do this one.
Built on a Good Friday in 2004, hence the name, this trail has a great mix of tech and flow. Leading straight into Be Rude Not 2, sort of a mini split enz under the canopy.
Its a shorter trail but keeps you on your toes with all the bumps and ruts. Bound to get that adrenaline pumping.
    Eagle V Shark -
EvS starts right where the shuttle drops you off. its a fast flowing pure downhill trail named after the film. Yep this was in our last vid but we couldn’t resist a second run down, especially because Clarissa & Jordan had to experience this too. The flow reminded us of Split Enz with the super smooth tables traversing all the way down the mountain. It’s really easy to keep speed and get into the flow, while practicing your pumping and brake control. A huge favourite for riders of all levels.
