  • Lucy heads to Calmsden where she has a frustrating day of things just not being quite good enough. The dressage lacked with Insey not being truly through and into the right rein - more work needed on this. Showjumping saw a very relaxed horse warming up but one who then let adrenaline get to her. A round to forget. Finally cross country went well but it was a straightforward course which wasn't very big or technical.
As with everything its a time to reflect after on what could be better and work out a plan to improve things. Insey was definitely missing regulate which does make a large difference to her. A new bottle has been purchased.
On this channel we share the ups and downs in an honest way. We are amateurs who work full time with demanding jobs and try to balance horses, eventing and to keep improving. It's not easy and we try our best.
If you have any questions please comment and will be pleased to answer them.

I thought you handled the whole situation in the showjumping beautifully; she lost the plot - but you did not, and you finished the round. Brilliant. You will no doubt have better days with her - but this is one of those days where we learn, improve and come back another day, at another event to run a blinder. Superb, inspiring resilience as always. x

Don't stress. Sometimes things can be a bit meh. It's less noticeable with the big professionals because they tend to have big teams of horses.

It’s a marathon and not a sprint but such a capable horse!

3 days without RegaMate she was coming into season for sure! Worked with a OTTB who had to be on it as she was so miserable for a week you'd think she was colicky.

It definitely has an impact on her brain. She has had a week off and will have bodyworker on Friday and then can start again with a busy June scheduled. She normally settles by June with everything so hopefully back firing on all cylinders.

A real shame about the show jumping but they all have there days. I hope it is something simple like her needing her supplement and then she will be back on track and flying ready for the next 🤞

I hope so, she is tricky to manage from March till June. Managing her brain even with being out 24/7. Hopefully will get my sjs out on the field next week which will help with being able to jump at home.

Need a gimble for your camera to cut down on the shaking, but cool video otherwise. It's neat to see this from the perspective of a rider like yourself.

Unfortunately a friend who did the camera was not at all experienced with tech and gimbals are really expensive. I keep thinking gimbal or go eventing….. and I would rather go eventing! TH-cam makes no money as we are so small and we are old and uncharismatic so not interesting to younger viewers.

    Well what a bummer huh.
BUT - she looked stunning ok. She made the cross country look at about 30cm high. So that’s positive number one.
Showjumping, hmm. Incredibly annoying episode but you feel you understand the reason for the meltdown. So that’s cool. When she was jumping, again, she made the fences look tiny. So a kind of positive number two.
The dressage. I do think it was a hard marking day. I agree she did look a little “stiff” in some movements for want of a better phrase. But you are aware of her issues and I guess her back and poll have been checked??
So unfortunate because she does look great and her score was not horrific considering the “consistent” score levels.
And you looked great too and you handled her beautifully. Well done. Keep going you are a joy to watch.

Thanks - she is having a few days off and then will get a professional out to treat. Just need some good consistent form and then can move up a level. Robbie up next for eventing and no mare issues with him!
