Well since 3 of the minor scales are in the major scale the general minor is covered. If you are talking about harmonig and melodic minor - also important but 90% of the harmony in jazz standards are found in the major scale you could probably argue that the rest of the scales are 10% important when playing jaz standards
@@sorenballegaardmusic , that is misleading information. The "scales" to which you refer are modes of the major scales, two of which are not the standard minor key centers that are the basis of most Western harmony. The Aeolian mode can function in a minor key, but it can get a bit monotonous if you never play a leading tone in a minor key, hence the need to know melodic and harmonic minor scales, which should be a standard part of any musician's practice routine. What people need to know is how to play major and minor key centers in the traditional harmonic structures that pervade most jazz repertoire. And then they certainly need to understand diminished scales as well. Whole scales tend to be of secondary importance, but they do get used, especially for bebop onwards. There are very few tunes that do not involve at least brief detours into minor keys or briefly turning ii, iii or iv chords in major into tonic minor chords, which requires melodic or harmonic minor to establish. And there are of course many tunes that are in minor keys or that overtly modulate from major to minor keys.

Minor scales are equally important, and you should know diminished and whole tone scales as well.
