I love Matthew Sweet but too many songs from Girlfriend here. I was young in the 90s (born in '85) and didn't know him until Altered Beast in '93 and more so 100% Fun, particularly with the hit single "Sick of Myself" in 1995. He had a little attention during Altered Beast in 93 but it wasnt until 95 that I regularly heard him on the radio/saw his music video played. Instead of 6 songs from Girlfriend, how about 2-3 from Girlfriend, 2 from In Reverse, and maybe 1-2 from Kimi Ga Suki or Living Things?? As a true fan I want to hear deep cuts and non hits live along with the popular stuff too. He doesn't acknowledge a ton of albums in the live show...why? Find me one live performance on TH-cam from the past 10 years where he's playing a song from Living Things or In Reverse...I can't find any! Imagine if we heard something epic like Thunderstorm, Season Is Over, In My Tree, You're Not Sorry, Push the Feelings, What Matters, Worse To Live, If Time Permits, Dandelion, Dead Smile, Strange Faces etc.. played live! C'mon Matthew, the real fans want to hear both the popular songs & diverse deep cuts! ✌
@@drmuonfunk It's a great album but that's a big chunk of what he mainly plays in his live shows. I didn't catch on later. I caught on with the 2 albums after Girlfriend. I never even heard of him until '93 - '95 during Altered Beast & 100% Fun. My point was that he ignores tons of his own catalog and I don't understand why. His live show for years now is 90% from 3 albums and then a couple from a few of the more recent albums. Why ignore everything in between? 🤔 His late 90s/early 2000s albums have some of his best work in my opinion. ✌

He looks really really bad, healthwise here. How sad. He's getting to where he's running out of breath and sweating way too much with very little energy expended. Rock n Roll is a demanding "sport", man. You have to take care of yourself or you can't do it.
I love Matthew Sweet, but this was tough to watch. He looks very unhealthy and was clearly struggling through the set. I'm glad I caught him at Tradewinds in NJ back in '00, but he was pretty hostile towards the crowd at that show.
I was at that show. Don't remember the hostility though but I do remember a super rockin version of "We're The Same". Miss the shows at the Tradewinds (Billy Idol, Blur, Fountains of Wayne). My God, he looks so bad.

I love Matthew Sweet but too many songs from Girlfriend here. I was young in the 90s (born in '85) and didn't know him until Altered Beast in '93 and more so 100% Fun, particularly with the hit single "Sick of Myself" in 1995.
He had a little attention during Altered Beast in 93 but it wasnt until 95 that I regularly heard him on the radio/saw his music video played. Instead of 6 songs from Girlfriend, how about 2-3 from Girlfriend, 2 from In Reverse, and maybe 1-2 from Kimi Ga Suki or Living Things?? As a true fan I want to hear deep cuts and non hits live along with the popular stuff too.
He doesn't acknowledge a ton of albums in the live show...why? Find me one live performance on TH-cam from the past 10 years where he's playing a song from Living Things or In Reverse...I can't find any!
Imagine if we heard something epic like Thunderstorm, Season Is Over, In My Tree, You're Not Sorry, Push the Feelings, What Matters, Worse To Live, If Time Permits, Dandelion, Dead Smile, Strange Faces etc.. played live! C'mon Matthew, the real fans want to hear both the popular songs & diverse deep cuts! ✌
Girlfriend is an amazing record. That is actually when he broke. You just caught on later. That record is almost flawless.
@@drmuonfunk It's a great album but that's a big chunk of what he mainly plays in his live shows. I didn't catch on later. I caught on with the 2 albums after Girlfriend. I never even heard of him until '93 - '95 during Altered Beast & 100% Fun. My point was that he ignores tons of his own catalog and I don't understand why. His live show for years now is 90% from 3 albums and then a couple from a few of the more recent albums. Why ignore everything in between? 🤔 His late 90s/early 2000s albums have some of his best work in my opinion. ✌
I saw him in Detroit in 1999 on the In Reverse tour. He closed with Thunderstorm. It was pretty epic.

I definitely did notice that which is so unfortunate; setting up to be the climactic high water mark of an otherwise outstandingly kickass set, tip to tail- then, blam. Performing is hard, shit happens- I’m just elated to get to hear this all performed so solidly (with such great audio!!!)

I'm glad I caught him at Tradewinds in NJ back in '00, but he was pretty hostile towards the crowd at that show.
I was at that show. Don't remember the hostility though but I do remember a super rockin version of "We're The Same". Miss the shows at the Tradewinds (Billy Idol, Blur, Fountains of Wayne). My God, he looks so bad.

Saw him at Tradewinds many times. His solo guitar version of Almost Forgot was my favorite.
@@miketucker5810 Pat DiNizio. He was overweight to begin with, then he had fallen really badly and his health, unfortunately, got worse and worse, taking his life. I really like the Smithereens also. Hope Matthew stays healthy .
