From the last poets to Bridges to beyond, Gil Scott Heron was constantly blazing a new trail for the socially conscience. His art is so powerful. I'm so grateful for his work, his music, his watchful eye for injustice, and his willingness to stand up to and speak out against those who would perpetrate abuse and hate. Mil gracias Gil por todo!
Love this song always have! I learned about Gil and Brian in college late 70’s. And then 20 years later my absconded with all of Gil and Brian’s vinyl. My son was a bassist. He died suddenly last year in my arms at home from heart failure unexpectedly and not drug induced. I’m just now able to listen to music again that conjures up his playing bass. I’m just glad he loved the music I did and had an opportunity to hear a legend musician and band
My Sincerest Condolences To You. I Saw My Wife pass in front of My eyes. May GOD-JESUS Heal You from your heart and pain. GOD BLESS You And Your entire Family.
I played this album non stop in High school..long live the music of Gil Scott Heron.Saw him live many times at the Roxy theater in Los Angeles.. I miss the good vibrations!
I remember this as one of my favorite fusion tracks form the late 70's as I was finishing up my college radio career. Gil Scott-Heron was able to bridge the chasm very adeptly and express the hope for the future. We Almost Lost Detroit is another great track of his to check out. RIP GSH, your work will keep you alive to the masses.
That's like listening to a Rolling Stones album and saying "I see where those Sonic Youth kids got their music ideas from". Same ballpark, but really not the same. Jamiroquai are very much in line with the British "Acid Jazz" vibe of early 90's. Checkout Brand New Heavies for instance -- similar vibe.
how can you not like this Gil was a true pioneer in the music field sadley I only really got into a few years back I have learnt more history from him in a 7 minute song, than I probably learnt in most of my school years
He was my introduction to jazz.. Racetrack was always one of may favorites. First Phoebe Snow now Gil. The last of singer, poet, musician types as we know them.
Brilliant track from imho his best album.Wonderful keyboard break! Synthesizer programming by cecil malcolm who also worked on stevie wonders innervisions era material.
i met gil at the ann arbor jazz and blues fest 73 i left with 2 impressions 1 if i could sing like him i would never shut up 2 his intellegence leel was before his time
I feel the obliggation to remind everyone that Gil Scott and Bryan Jaackson collaborated on the majority of their music or all of their music. I've followed them for a long time. I have to say that I was totally disappointed at how he ended up. I saw him in Long Beach shortly before he passed and he was pitiful.

this groove is way ahead of its time. kids go craxy for this sound in 2017.
Nothing else like it, funk, soul, power, RIP to the legend and watch all of Brian Jacksons Redbull interviews theyre amazing.
I remember this man from the 1970's. He was a socially conscious prophet of the time. His message of social justice resonates today.
This is my favourite GSH tune. "Kicking up dust and gravel".
pure. funk. Much love Mr. Heron

Still missed Gil.
A swinging session from Gil Scott Heron & Brian Jackson, showcasing the more upbeat side of the poet, with tight Jazzy riffs
What a good groove :) This song might have an impact on "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", MJ.
