Rachel’s strength is her storytelling skills. I think it was Colbert who called her the explainer in chief. I became addicted to her show because of her deep dives. If this is the type of work she is doing now I forgive her for stepping down from the daily show. She is essential to our understanding of who we are and where we came from

Truly! I would imagine that, in a world more defined by audio and visual, her ability to reveal *primary source* history, to Gen X and beyond, will be invaluable. She has always dealt with journalism in an ethical and effective way; taking those values into the field of history is a true gift.

Not being able to understand the links, that Rachel explains so perfectly, is simply understanding History! If anyone needs commonsense progress then read more "recent history" say 100 years! There has never been a generation which exploded onto the scene, and big tech seems to have taken over the need to understand anything! Mobile phones can answer any question in an instant, and this alone has meant people do not have to think about anything - just ask Google for an answer! This is the dumbing down of the people because they get answers without needing to understand the LESSON!

Rachel doesn't tell you who to vote for, and she certainly doesn't tell people that they're Nazis if they vote Republican. If Rachel is calling you a Nazi, it's because you've self-identified as a Nazi or neo-Nazi. She encourages critical thinking and intellectual curiosity and compassion. I’m glad to hear y’all speak on this very serious subject, for those of us who has parents, grandparents or great grandparents and uncles and aunts etc that saw what happened during the 40’s and early 30’s and talked about it when they were alive. Those of us we who had been told about history from family, have been severely worried about these old anti semantic tropes and fascist tropes re appearing, and garnering popular support, even though some of these coullion’s don’t understand where it comes from.
Also the people in the Deep South and those of us familiar with the KKK and white nationalists hatred, we know that they take their hate straight from the Nazis. So we know where all that comes from. My grandfather who was a church going baptist gave safety and offered his home and property when the KKK were threatening the black people in town in the Deep South and some of his workers came to him afraid. He said come to my house and bring your family and anyone else that’s afraid. When the Klan arrived my usually soft spoken grandfather greeted them with a shotgun along with all his brothers and sons and relatives sitting on his porch with their shotguns, and he said if you think you are going to hurt these people, and try to set a foot on my property, I’ll blow your god damned head off. He had eyes that were so white blue they looked like they had lightening in them. They were oddly beautiful. And he had coal black hair and was tall. That story was told to me by ma maman and is one of my favorite stories. My sweet grandfather was very aware that my grandmother was very against cursing and using Gods name in vain. But she didn’t say a word. If we all stand up against injustice than things like the Holocaust will never happen again. Or things like what my grandfather stood against. We can’t let any group be targeted like that, I always say one day they will be coming for people who look like you or those you love, so don’t be afraid to speak up against fascist like language or rhetoric or hate language.

Don’t have to agree or sympathize/empathize, but if you can put your emotions aside to listen, you’ll see the answer is simple. An unstable/precarious economic environment and (real and imagined) threats to their status in society, which they project onto visible minorities who they can scapegoat in order to cope somewhat and avoid facing systemic problems… pretty sure the New Deal had a much much bigger impact in the fight against fasc!sm than the individualistic interventions they discussed… also probably not a coincidence that the threat reappeared and grew proportionally as we gutted those policies
