Nada will share the impact community building has had on the Foundation's initiatives. Nada Zohdy is the Global Network Lead at the Obama Foundation, where she leads efforts to connect over 1,000 alumni of Foundation leadership programs in nearly 150 countries working across all sectors and issues to be lifelong values-based leaders. She has over a decade of experience as a democracy advocate and over 15 years experience as a network and community builder. From 2015-22, she led and grew the Open Gov Hub, facilitating daily resource sharing and collaborations between 60+ organizations, working together to make governments more open and accountable globally. She has also been a civic engagement consultant for international institutions (ex: World Bank), funders (ex: Democracy Fund) and global NGOs (ex: Open Government Partnership). Nada speaks and writes on democracy, networks, and social entrepreneurship and has been published by the Stanford Social Innovation Review, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and elsewhere. She began her career at the Project on Middle East Democracy, supporting local Arab civil society organizations before, during and after the Arab Spring. She has an MPP from the Harvard Kennedy School and BA from Michigan State University, where she was a Truman Scholar. An Egyptian-American born and raised near Detroit, Nada lives in Washington, D.C. with her spouse and cats and can often be found playing soccer, enjoying a local coffee shop or beating city traffic on her bike.
Meghan Bates is the Senior Community Strategist at Hivebrite. She has a “passionate but practical” brain for improving engagement, diversity and community strategy for global SaaS companies, aiding in super user development, member sentiment and content editorial work.
