Just as a side note, in M1G2, you technically met the condition for Knight of the Ebon Legion by paying 4 life with Dismember, as it looks for a player to have lost 3 or more life, not just an opponent.
Lake of the Dead is awesome because it's a card that this brewer willingly put in their deck despite basically losing you the game if you ever draw it. Just planting an actual landmine in the decklist. I think Nighthawk Scavenger is "anti-frog" because it's at minimum a 1 power deathtouch flier, so Frog can never get free attacks into it? Still seems not great. I love splashing a whole color to get better removal, then only playing 2 of the good removal spell you're splashing for, 2 removal spells which are not any better than your on color removal, and some random draft chaff creature for some reason? This list is running the Sorin where the thing that it does is cheat giant vampires into play, but it also isn't playing any vampires that cost more than the Sorin itself? Surely that Indulging Patrician could be a Vein Ripper or something.
Swords gets stopped by chalice on 1, a problem mono black decks have often. Also long goodbye doesn’t get countered….also also, touch gets rid of a lottttt of issues this deck has….namely ensnaring bridge.
I had you at less than 1% to win against that resolved Doomsday in game 1. Doomsday players are almost always one step ahead in that situation with discard, Unearth, or a way to go to zero cards in library.
@@davydbubbles7613 Seems likely. We saw 3 Forces in the exile pile. All but 2 of the remaining cards ended up in their hand, so they likely had Force number 4 in hand. I suppose it could've been at the bottom of that pile.
Seeing as the deck has a white splash, and wanting to go after frog. I think Celestial Purge would be a good candidate, as it can also answer more things that is seeing play right now.
@@MackNJacishopper Sure, but Timeless incentivizes some other cards anyway since Show and Tell is the best deck in the format. Also, Grief and Reanimate are legal in Timeless, so it could lean in that direction
Well, lesson learned from this video, one-ofs can still impact your games a lot! Sidenote: I do think Indulging Patrician is a neat, well-designed card… but obviously powerwise it’s only really serviceable in draft and like, Pauper EDH. Not the Calvary Burrowgoyf format.
Okay. Okay. I KNOW I've said this about every single black deck but what if you just... Y'know, Trimmed all the white cards fod Black Market Connections? Hear me out. Hear me out. You already have a good number of life gain enablers in the vampires, you just don't have cards like Fable or Sylvan Library to keep up card advantage. Black Market Connections! BLACK MARKET CONNECTIONS FOR DAYS
I think you were a little quick to judge Sorin of House Markov considering you only played him in a single game. That said this list absolutely has too many pet cards.
Sorin flipwalker is really really good if you're playing better cards in the other slots. It's phenomenal with Necrodominance and March of Wretched Sorrow.
18:18 why you play long goodbye before combat and did not wait for double block for blow out ? If they don't block, you can kill 1 after combat and play Sheoldred. Clearing 2 tokens makes blocks next turn much more painfull for the opponent.
Interesting list! I woulda played stalactite stalker over that ebon hand one drop. Also lake of the dead was incredibly cursed and so bad 😭 too bad I really like the card but it’s only good with grave titan
I've just passed the deck tech and I wonder if I'm missing something. Why does this deck have any, much less _two_ Urborgs in it? All of the lands fetch or are a swamp except for Lake of the Dead?
Lake of the Dead. Haven’t seen that card in a long time. Pulled one from Alliancrs booster and traded to a friend playing mono black. It was never a good card. Fine in casual, but never tournament worthy. The funny thing is that we didn’t realize how good Force of Will was back then. People liked Pyrokinesis more.

Seriously, my first thought when I saw the Lake is that the card is actively bad and should be almost literally any other land as an upgrade.
my brain is shortcircuiting seeing a vampire deck with sorins in it, but not the vampire-tribal sorin
I had you at less than 1% to win against that resolved Doomsday in game 1. Doomsday players are almost always one step ahead in that situation with discard, Unearth, or a way to go to zero cards in library.
I suppose they must have had Force back-up and lost specifically to uncounterable removal?

This deck looks like a modern power-level deck, not surprised it wasn’t as strong in legacy.
Oddly enough, I think the lake was a major factor in it being less powerful all those mulligans because of it are killer
I think you underestimate the power level of modern
Agreed, and just about every modern deck that sees play right now would stomp this pile. Standard decks would do well against it.
fun fact: knight gets a counter if ANYONE lost 4 or more life. so in theory dismember can pump it
You could punch yourself with your own Adanto Vanguard in standard. It looked fun.
Other than Lake of the Dead, Exsanguinator Cav, and Hymn I think this whole deck is legal in Timeless. I kind of want to try it
Cav and hymn are like the third and fourth best cards in the deck though
@@MackNJacishopper Sure, but Timeless incentivizes some other cards anyway since Show and Tell is the best deck in the format. Also, Grief and Reanimate are legal in Timeless, so it could lean in that direction
I love Nighthawk Scavenger. Play it in my Dimir Rogues list in Pioneer and it's just fantastic there. Obviously very diffrent format byt still
This is a very cool deck that works on afew lines and has some very unexpected game play bc of it cool. 😎
Obligatory algorithmic contribution for the purpose of community engagement.
Why would this deck not have 4 swords in the place of any other removal?
So you can't discard a card to gain a life, duh
Because swords gets hit by chalice on 1, and gets countered…
25:50 - if you played dark ritual you could have used extra extort to make it 4 life gain and then kill the second guy on the battlefield :)
He could extort on the SWP he played making it gain 4 that round and kill fanatic easily.
Breaking news: thrabenU somehow manages to find a mono black land he hates more than takenuma

The main deck only has 2 swords to plowshares, i think the dark betrayal in the sideboard should just be swords as well.
What a delightful moment to open youtube
Thraben U, best way to start the day!

I would love to see you play a dimmer faeries list with just as many free counters as possible with mabe a curious obsession type effect for draw.
I wouldn't doubt that Lake of the Dead was actually just put there as a troll card haha
I think you were a little quick to judge Sorin of House Markov considering you only played him in a single game.

I was thinking it was anti-frog draft (bloomburrow) from just the name.
I think this deck got hit a whole point down on power level just because of Lake of the dead

Petition to call nighthawk scavenger Tarmahawk
you cant swords to transform sorin on instant speed to avoid removal, sorin triggers on your main phase
It’s really cool watching the thoughts on this deck down the comments, I guess we like the frog killer
Interesting list! I woulda played stalactite stalker over that ebon hand one drop.
Also lake of the dead was incredibly cursed and so bad 😭 too bad I really like the card but it’s only good with grave titan
Knight of the ebon legion is a knight so it gets buffed by exsanguinator cavalry
I've just passed the deck tech and I wonder if I'm missing something. Why does this deck have any, much less _two_ Urborgs in it? All of the lands fetch or are a swamp except for Lake of the Dead?
I have been playing this for months and I think Phil got bad variance with lake because it’s been nuts. It’s also nuts with urborg.
Round 5 match one, ward is a trigger that counters the spell ;-; you had the uncounterable spell
That kills something mv 3 or less
10 seconds in, I expect the league to go Eldrazi, combo, control, combo, frog but actually you just die to a troll and a big murktide
Lake of the dead seems like a mistake. Like its a huge Wasteland target.
Also the lack of a basic plains and only 2 Swords seems wrong to me.
this deck could use like a lochthwain or something to get more draw in

Randy Buehler won a Pro tour with 3 of them in his deck, though
IIRC somebody won a big tournament woth Kjeldoran Outpost too. And then there was Olle’s Spider deck too :)
at least your suffering is educational today. losing to that bad d&t player looked painful for you
😂
the best anti frog deck isnt going to have 10 three drops with no ancient tomb/city/chrome mox
This is the easiest 0-5 I have ever seen (Prediction). EDIT: Yup, very not good.
Weird because it didn’t 0-5….strange.
Anti-frogzhov
Lake of the dead? Seriously?
match 5 you can just long goodbye valgavoth? ward counters the targeting spell.
Long goodbye only hits cmc 3 or less
@@fencer3012 thank you. i've never played with the card and i was so confused.
