    *OH YEAH, BY THE WAY, SOME PERSONAL COMMENTS:*
    1) Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, everyone! Thank you very much for staying with me even up to this point, now that my schedule is actually very busy because of work. I really do appreciate it, ladies and gentlemen. Now, I hope you have an idea what I'm gonna upload the entire tribute. ;)
    2) You might ask, out of all pieces that you can put up on Christmas, why this? Sorry, I was just thinking about following a "The Nightmare before Christmas" reference. :P
    3) Sorry as well if some parts of the video don't match the audio -- the only available sheet music of the piece that I can find on the Internet is actually missing some parts. The recording also seems to skip some parts as well. Sigh.
    4) The 6/8 "dance" part reminds me of something Ginastera might have written down.
    5) Any random comments, suggestions, opinions, questions, or video requests? Feel more than free to leave a comment or give me a PM. :D

    The harmony is breathtaking! Compared to his contemporaries, he uses such simple themes almost romantically, but it is simply amazing what effect this work has.

    Wow this is great! Bernard Herrmann was one of the best TVGF and movie soundtrack composers of all time in my book! i loved his work with the Twilight Zone, and I had no idea he had written serious piano work as well! Thank you YOuTube!

    I have seen this concerto in the context of the movie, and your summery doesn't even begin to cover why this is The Concerto of Death. Don't get me wrong. This is a great concerto to just listen to. But when placed in the context of seeing it unfold on the screen, it is a masterpiece. Especially those final cords, starting at 9:26, played alone, with the room and fire, and no escape. And that final line in the movie that "it was better this way" that he die like that. Bernard Herman at his best, in an otherwise pedestrian movie.

    This piano concerto reminds me very much in form and style of the Villa-Lobos piano concertos. However, Hermann's harmonies are more daring and better balanced than Villa-Lobos'.

      @vittoriostoraro 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've known about Herrmann since I was a Junior High School kid in the late 70's (after seeing Psycho) and that's when I bought my first record of his work. The Taxi Driver Sountrack was the 3rd Herrmann record I purchased. I'm not sure how anyone who calls themselves a Film lover would not know the the work of one of the greatest film composers. Short answer: NO.
