I think the line type you were trying to remember was Dacron line I still use heavy dacron for "Shock leader" and I still use mono I don't care about all the new braded stuff. Don't get me wrong... If I'm at a yard sale or a swap meet I'll buy spool of Spider wire and the like for a buck a spool but I'm not paying $30 for string! The problem I've always had with braided line is when it gets tangled... You just have to cut it and retie everything.
I love Power Pro i use Max Quattro or when I’m doing the lakes I use The slick eight version twoThe best tip for not getting that dang tangeled with the braided line with a spinning Real is the pull your line towards the tip of your rod to get the slack out after you flip your bell that slack line around your bell when you cast is what makes your line tingle during the next cast
I get you on the mono for fishing bait, dead or alive. In the west coast we generally load half our reels capacity with braid and the rest with mono. Replace the mono every few offshore trips and you always have the braid for extra capacity incase you hook up on a big fish. That said lots of guys still rock a Newell, torium or saltist with only mono and still kill it. My personal surface iron reel is loaded with #40 mono. Like you said, the fish don't care about the line when they are biting a large piece of metal anyways.
Just found this channel & in these crazy PC times all I can say is you tell it like it is. 👍🏻 Also like that it is what works for you and your passion shows. Great info!!
40-50# powerpro is a must if you fish the Cape Cod Canal!! Of course you can go 30# but it would just annoy to the person next to you if you take 30 minutes to bring a fish in during a full on blitz.
Good vid mate! I use braid with a couple of rod lengths of mono leader. That way no hand cuts. Learned the hard way when braid first became available in Aus. Also was Spiderwire and still using it 😂🇦🇺✝🎣🛥👍
Great video. I still use PP for slinging bucktail & eelskin jigs and tossing log sized plugs at CC canal on conventional tackle. Like the softness it develops after 2-3 outings. For spinning, I'm finding that the S-W or Suffix is awesome stuff for plugs and eeling, but you have to watch the tendency to bury itself during a fight.
I understand why You have to keep mentioning "this is how I fish" because in this world today people are gonna make it seem like your forcing it on them lol smh
Hey Zeno , great stuff as always. I had a discussion about fishing line with you about 5 years ago at a ct surf show. Ever since I've been using PowerPro and couldn't be happier. I've tried others but PP works best for me. Not saying others are worst but like you say it's what works best for you and the conditions you fish. Thanks Zeno
I feel that new power pro V2 is only good heavier tackle. Lots of wrapping around the guides on lighter stuff like 1 oz and under. I feel it’s because it’s not going back on the spoil tight enough. Any insight?
I would say you casted further with the thinner line not so much due to wind resistance and more it being less friction between the line and the rods guides while casting.
Do the video on releasing a fish(you said you would, been waiting all summer!.. lol), how to hold the fish vs stepping on them, gills, hook release, barbs, single vs treble.. ETC... I’m Guilty!!.. Many times I had to keep fish who’s mouth I destroyed when I really went out to catch and release. Or seen fish release with half a jaw. I learned through my own mistakes and gotten better but I’d be nice to hear it from the more experienced. It will also help many down the line. Let’s get it in before the season is over!!.. Thanks!
what tims fishunt said. also you have to follow the hook & twist it out in the sence that follows the hook bend using pliers.. if you pull it straight out your gonna rip a hole.
What they said + use thin gloves when handling stripers or other fish that won’t bite you fingers off. Hold the fish by its mouth and you’ll be good. With blues, etc, use small grippers. In both cases use long nose pliers to unhook fish. Be gentle.
Here is another factor that you may not have considered. your better cast may not have been the line it may have been that your spool had more string on it because when your spool is filled correctly you get a much longer cast than a spool that is not filled all the way.
He’s right that braid will cut your finger one thing that does suck is you have to tighten your drag a lot when you have a heavy plug it’s all about that drag that cuts your finger
I decided to use breaded line on my 13ft pole uses 5ouz max sinker my real takes up to 85 pound braided spinner reel so I put 70pound braid My casting reel it’s my first conventional reel with magnetic system for casting its on 11 foot pole 4 ounz max sinker so reel has 50pound braid 12 foot I’m planning on doing 70 and and 50 pound together on the reel just to use up the line Now I bought name brand line on Amazon has good reviews So hope it works I use these 3 rods to launch out there for sharks Rest rods are mono
Hi Randy..Yes but as you probably notices we never talk about places, just techniques . You can use good skills to catch fish anywhere. Our recommendation is to join NJ based surf fishing club
Yes sir sharing personal knowledge is always great.. and yes we do that same thing of sharing how we tell our knowledge to others cause your right now everyone fishes exactly the same way .... Good deal and subbed as well..
I've found the JBraid 8 strand is more round and much more slick that PP. It's not quite as slick as PP Super Slick but it also costs much less the Super Slick.
KatiePhongh Hi. Few folks and myself fished JBraid last year and found that it doesn’t last very long. 2 months into fresh spool it kept breaking off in our hands. We tried few more spools and same thing happened. I don’t recommend it if you fish often. Go with Suffix 32.
I bought some Berkley Whiplash 30lb Crystal from Amazon and it was obviously a copy, it was rubbish. Cast snapped, fish on snapped, and so on, after 1 session i binned the lot, what a waste of money and Amazon wouldn't give me my money back. Sorry but now i'm using cheap Spectra braid, and it's briliant, for me, that is.

When power pro first came out i had issues with it delaminating.so i switched to s
Suffix and have used the 832 for awhile now with no issues

Great video as usual Z! Keep up the great work bud!
Great video as always and one of the best closing lines I have heard on anyone's youtube video.

you know it
I'm only 2:54 into the vid. bad imitation sold on ebay, amazon, eg. That alone is a good reason to support your local tackle shops.

Great tip about the tape

So you should use 30lb braid for lure surf fishing snd 50lb/80lb for bait fishing? Lighter braid for lure fishing ??
The godfather of surf fishing

It became gummy and frayed on my VSX250 after 2 months so I stripped it off and put on some suffix. Problem solved. I was using 40lb.

I really enjoy watching your videos I'm just started on surf fishing and I really enjoy the information thank you
thank you
Why are all my surf reels 50lb test ? I am going down to 30lb thanks !
I was wondering if you ever fish in Jersey and if you do any places that you would recommend to fish
Hi Randy..Yes but as you probably notices we never talk about places, just techniques . You can use good skills to catch fish anywhere. Our recommendation is to join NJ based surf fishing club
Which leader wallet do you have? Looking for one. Thx!

@@SurfcastersJournal Ordered! Thank you!

Zeno-How come you use swivels and don’t tie your leaders directly to the braid main line ?
i am not a fan of tying direct mono to braid
Great video!
thank you
Great video. Thanks for the useful info. Put your glasses on we won't laugh to much.
thank you
Powerpro Maxcuatro the best braid line out there......!
Great video man
thank you
thats the way!
braid will not float your bucktail in deep water as mono does ... mono and braid both have their place in the game as with most tackle used in fishing
Dude I love you 😂
Hard to beat powerpro also sufix 🐟

finger stool, i use bits of bicycle inner tubes
I can't help but think you have some ocean experience disposing of "evidence". Just kidding, great tips, I learned a lot
Zeno, I want to go fishing with you bro.
Braid below 15 test is a horror, 20 is pushing it
So 17.5 is the spot?
@@tombie8763 don't know if you're being facetious, but 20 is the lightest I'd use in the surf
