Like so many, I truly love There There, and I'm struggling with Wandering Stars. I am not connecting with this first part. I wonder if it would be horrible to skim the first half and sink into the second. Rincey, I am so glad you are still reviewing books! Thank you for this video.
I listened to There There on audio and had a hard time keeping up with the numerous characters. I have Wandering Stars in print which I hope fares better, but I'm still worried about grasping the breadth of it. Thanks for your review! I really like your individual book videos - I seem to be in a very parallel reading journey to you, so it's great to watch your thoughts.
Totally agree. I got to hear Tommy Orange read from this book a couple months ago, and it was just beautiful. Yet, I definitely wish there were less characters, because that’s also what would’ve made it better for me. Thanks for your thoughtful breakdown.
I am currently 50 pages from the end of Wandering Stars and I agree that the book breaks a apart going from part one: before to part two: aftermath. However, unlike you I like the multiPOV present day story much more than the linear multi-generational historical part. In my reading part one is quiet superficial and I never feel for the characters, while in part two I get to know this family and their problems. Just goes to show how two readers will experience the same book completely differently. BTW I totally agree that There There is a much stronger book - absolutely loved that one - 5 stars.
Thank you for this review. I have a copy of this book and I am excited to read it--I know it didn't work as well for you and I understand why, but some of those issues are ones that appeal to me. I agree that Tommy Orange is a fabulous author!
Definitely appreciate hearing that. I do think my things that don't work for me is extremely personal which is what I hope comes across and then people who enjoy those things will know it may work for them!

Thank you so much!
I do think that the scope is smaller in terms of characters so I can imagine this being easier on audio. Hope it goes well for you!
