Carry on with the amazing content. But I think the issue with the degreaser is the lack of differences with stock. Really, we just need the stats to be more drastic and exaggerated and then we'll have a balanced but enticing combo weapon.

@@muddashucka9743 I make weapon concepts myself and I can see what you are going for. The speed boost would have to be 1 second, although im sure you understand. I am afraid some might call this a crutch with afterburn, but it would still need these to be effective and noticeable. The increased afterburn damage and duration may sound a little much of a disturbance, but it is clear in what it's meant to do. I might deacrease the damage penalty a little because pyro kinda still has unreliable damage output and would rely WAY too much on afterburn , but honestly, what can ya do? In total, I think your idea might need a few tweaks as you've said but I like it more than the Phlog so that's enough for me :)
It's so weird, because I remember my suggestion that Pyro needed a fast weapon switch weapon on SPUF since back then the argument was that Pyro had to play by Soldier main's pace of a battle, and could never really dictate the fight themselves or react accordingly in a fair manner. Pyro's were also speaking how we had to rely on our other weapon options over our FT most of the time, and had to use FT on certain occasions to reflect but again could never keep up in 1v1's to shoot and reflect. When the degreaser came out with its stats it was a godsend to every competent pyro. The axetinguisher nerf was a bit warranted and not necessary for Pyro to do well, though they did overdo it with the nerf. It does start getting disappointing players of other classes would cry about Degreaser weapon switching as a crutch playstyle, but it technically was for a flawed class with inconsistent particles that did quite pathetic DPS. Pyro's were criticized for fast weapon switching utilizing full toolkits to get fast kills, when other classes could just use their singular weapon to murder fast or more effectively. Their whining worked and Valve catered to nerf the weapon which really sucks.
Pyro could just use their flamethrower to get kills fast and effectively. You forget that while the Pyro "plays by the soldier's pace of battle" Pyro also shuts down Soldier almost completely. If a soldier runs a back it completely shuts them down and makes them helpless. There are issues with Pyro being weak though, but their damage isn't something to laugh at. People wouldn't be mad at "W1+M1" unless there was some power behind it. The afterburn itself can even ensure death if a person won that fight. The Pyro is ultimately like Sniper, they will be either weak or incredibly strong.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 there's no power to pyro w+m1, it's literally worse in p much every way to soldier demo and scout w+m1. Except these classes can jump kilometers in seconds, and that requires the same skill as opening control manager, ie clicking buttons at the same time
@@Buglin_Burger7878 Soldier is not shut down by Pyro. He does lose the matchup against airblast but he still has counterplay against Pyro's counterplay
Another reason that the degreaser could be feeling a bit meh is that its gimmick isn't as effective against the other classes anymore. The degreaser was a threat because no other classes was as fast as switching their weapon as pyro was, enabling a playstyle for the pyro that was unique and powerful in the right hands (Not including with the old airblast that made combos kind of easy to do). But when they decreased the universal weapon swap speed, the degreaser lost its edge as it wasn't really that unique anymore and other classes are able to respond much quicker to the ambushing pyro. Its still a good comboing tool, but its unique advantage has been significantly diminished. I don't understand why they couldn't have kept the 65% universal or even lowered the effect to 55% and just gave the degreaser worse afterburn and primary damage.
The degreaser mixed with panick attack is just insane, if you wanna fight another pyro or make as much damage as you can in little time or finish your enemy off in case the afterburn won't cut it, the panich attack with degreaser is the best combo i know from the pyro's arsenal
My main issue with current degreaser is that its downside just doesn't feel that useful It's not bad, but it's not really a "must" either It's just there, it doesn't switch up things anymore, and at that point, I just prefer stock or the df
I love how the degreaser looks and hate how stock looks, but love how stock performs and hate how the degreaser performs it's a constant battle of what flamethrower i wanna use
I used to absolutely love puff&sting, that combo was fucking awesome and felt incredible to pull off. Now it’s just not really usable, in the time it takes you to puff and sting just like… torch then to death with stock lol
I remember very vividly, when I was playing TF2 back in 2012-2015, people thought the degreaser was OP and some even said the airblast is stronger than stock. I played a lot of Saxton Hale though but it's very interesting that they came up with something like that but never was documented (or was made up) it seems...
a few decimal numbers of faster switch speed isn't worth removing 75% of your afterburn damage lmao. If you can't combo with stock you just have skill issue
Ohhhh boy I can not wait to kill someone thanks to 2103158932058130 nanosecond switch speed I got from this straight up downgrade weapon community hypes about
The degreaser pairs pretty well with the panic attack, due to the stacking switch speeds allowing you to get a shotgun shot out while the flame particles are still in contact with the enemy.
I love how serious and awesome the videos are, as it feelsl like you are watching a genuinely beautiful rant from a true TF2 Veteran who has amassed a true following on all platforms. And then the streams themself are utterly chaotic, loud, obnoxious and a bit questionable at times that always keep me coming back for more. I am proud to be one of the lucky people here before that first triple digit milestone arrives, the one you most definitely deserve.
I think if the Degreaser had the following stats, it would be more clear that it is a combo weapon: - Airblast cost increased to 30 ammo - Projectile speed increased by 25%, effectively increasing the range and speed at which you can ignite targets - 30% damage penalty, to make up for the longer range and combo potential - 50% increased holster and deploy speed -75% afterburn damage penalty Also give the Backburner slightly stronger airblast for no reason other than funny :)
I would argue the afterburn penalty is really awful, at max flamethrower range, getting no dps from afterburn can actually be felt with how much longer it takes to kill. I tried to use the degreaser with the thruster for its switch to bonus, but honestly it was so much harder to secure kills with with stock for just having the afterburn penalty.
You do have to take into consideration that afterburn starts upon first fire damage, NOT when it stops. So the instant you start burning an enemy, even if you keep burning them, they're STILL taking afterburn damage at the same time. So, technically, the Degreaser always does 6 DPS less than Stock across the board. Which might be all the time it takes for that Scout to line up his final meatshot on you or not. And even if afterburn from a flamethrower isn't all that large, a lot of times people do only escape with 40 HP, and whether or not they die is solely decided by whether it was stock or degreaser afterburn.
Seeing TF2 content in my recommended videos really feels like I’ve been taken back to my childhood. I’ve never played tf2 but I’ve always enjoyed the content surrounding the game.
Fantastic video and editing! But you did miss one thing about the old school degreaser: the reserve shooter combo. Pre jungle inferno this was a nightmare (at least how I remember it). The reserve shooter used to deal minicrits to anyone in the air (period), and old airblast used to push people more upward rather than away. So you could stop someone in their place and then blast them with a minicrit'd shotgun. Not nearly as deadly as the flare gun combo, but still a threat.
The panic attack pairs pretty well with the degreaser, since it also has a reduced switch time. Combined you can constantly switch between degreaser and panic attack to deal high DPS
First time I encounter this channel and I'm absolutely in love with the editing and the visual effects, keep up the good work, I've never been so interested in nerdy facts about a class I never play but the video quality and the narration made it awesome.
Yeah, I'm surprised people say they miss when combo Pyro was at its peak. Giving Pyro a near-instant kill on 8/9 classes at close range was absurdly overpowered. No fun to fight against, no counterplay most of the time. IMO it wasn't even that fun to be the combo Pyro because you killed every enemy the exact same way. I have way more fun as a combo Pyro nowadays because it takes a lot more skill and awareness to get good at it.
@@QuintessentialWalrus I used both combos (Reserve Shooter and Flare) a lot in Turbine 24h servers way back then. It was certainly the most OP set I've ever played as Pyro. Problem is on their own they weren't too out of line, but all 3 weapons were too OP together. Degreaser with fast weapon changing speed, Reserve Shooter doing mini-crits on airblasted targets, and old Axtinguisher.
having 10 airblasts vs 8 does get into play especially when stuffing an uber or protecting an engi nest against a dedicated spam. also afterburn can easily win you the flank or at least a good chance to trade with a scout in an enclosed space.
Unlocks really ought to change the way you play the class, and Combo Pyro is such an effective play style with a high skill ceiling that I really think this is where the Degreaser should fit, I would propose that both it's main and afterburn damage be reduced by 33%, do away with the switch speed increase, change it's airblast cost to a reduction rather than an increase to promote it's use, and lastly, give the Degreaser a longer static duration of afterburn, this would mean that W+M1 will be a net loss when using this weapon, but it grants a much larger window to take advantage of combo secondaries, the longer duration of afterburn should also affect enemy pyro's, not to the extent of non pyro players, but there again should be an increased window of opportunity to land that flair.
Thank god for this weapon showing me how fun this game could be thanks to Sketchek. Without him, I never would've spent thousands of hours on this 15 year old game
At most, the nerfs over the years just made combos less enticing and more encouraged playing pyro with just his shotgun out and swap to the degreaser to airblast stuff. In an odd way, that DID give the weapon an identity because the switch TO speed makes it the only one that can reliably play with their shotgun 90% of the time rather than awkwardly swapping to it when you see a scout. I just find it unfortunate because that gameplay style is uhh... pretty boring you just feel like a slightly bulkier gunslinger engineer.
@@commscan314 It increases your close range DPS at the HUGE cost of completely removing all your ranged options. Stuff like Scouts, Heavies and Snipers go from things you can probably harass into leaving with flares into outright hard-counters, since the Panic Attack's fixed spread ensures 100% that you can only hit about 6 bullets at medium range. You give Pyro a crippling handicap in exchange for more flamethrower-range DPS, which he didn't even need. The Flamethrower is already plenty good at killing people REALLY fast with just good tracking and the M1 button. You don't need to gimmick bullets into it to make it work at the cost of 4 classes hard-countering you instead of 1 hard counter (Engineer) and three soft counters.
@@OGXenos Harass into leaving? Flare pyro is basically beta demo lol Also yeah degreaser is certainly better (since flamethrower dps is mediocre anyways) but 108 panic attack meatshots + stock afterburn can be rly good
@@speedody2171 You need to have the gun shoved up somebody's rectum to hit 108. Its an argument in a vacuum. Panic attack past 10 meters, conveniently also max flamethrower effective range, is hard capped at 40 - 50 due to fixed spread being physically unable to land more bullets on a hitbox from that range. Scouts don't have to respect your range and can just stay away, and a Heavy that sees you coming can EASILY out-DPS you in seconds. Which is most heavies. Pyro has zero gap closing options to force a close range encounter universally, except for the thruster, which is a secondary, or the +15% powerjack speed, which makes you take MORE damage and is suicidal if you're already being shot at. Demoman can't afterburn people from across the map. If you actually know what you're doing flares are always better. You don't turn yourself into a worse Scout (Better mobility, longer range, and can double bleed even at range for pseudo afterburn) and can effectively two-shot light classes with 60 afterburn and either a 30 initial for 90 total or an outright 90 with 60 afterburn from any range.
A Pyro weapon that's a direct upgrade to stock and yet there's little point to running it over other options available? Where have I heard this me before...
The best way to balance this weapon is just make Wm1 with this weapon useless nerf the damage it does with direct fire heavily and have it do longer afterburn damage and duration to make the axtinguisher worth using with it because as it stands the axtinguisher is just not worth using compared to the powerjack.
Hey there! Just letting you know that the song list in your description is incorrect. The song for the outro of this video is "Relic Song (In-Game Version) - Pokémon Black & White" not "Relic Song (Beta Mix) - Pokemon Black & White". Just figured I'd let you know!
I know its about the degreaser, but one of the amazing things you could do with it was use the reserve shooter back in the day. Not possible anymore from airblasts, but that was a magical time
Really hate how they nerfed all of the pyro's combo potentional and forced a much more w+M1 mindset to things greatly reducing the skill ceiling for the class. I know people whined about getting combo'd but honestly it was at least more interesting than w+M1 and made the class have a good burst damage niche that not a lot of other classes could pull off in the middle of a fight.
No. Filling the screen with unreadable information that forces you to pause the fucking video every two seconds to read it, completely breaking it's pace, is NOT "best edited tf2 video".
I run the old-school pybro loadout personally - Degreaser, Flare Gun, Homewrecker. The switch speed seems pretty negligible but I've definitely encountered times where it's helped me land a clutch flare or destroy a sapper regularly enough for me to keep using it. I liked the pre-Tough Break version better, but it is still my go-to flamethrower. In fact, other than when I feel particularly heinous and use the phlog, I don't think I use any others - I'm so used to the switch speed of the Degreaser that stock or Backburner throw me off (plus less airblasts on Backburner) and I simply never could get the hang of the dragons fury. Honestly 75% of the reason I even picked up the Flare Gun (formerly a Shotgun enthusiast) was because at close to mid range it travels at a similar speed and arc to the Crusaders Crossbow bolt. I just activate the same square inch of grey matter to hit crossbows when shooting flares. The other 25% was being done with Random Bullet Spread Sidenote: I feel like people sleep hard on the Homewrecker. I always carry it, unless I feel saucy with the Detonator and Back Scratcher. Not having the Powerjack out means I'm less tunnel vision moving forward (seriously, Powerjack pyros can't perceive what isn't in front of them when they have it out), ready and able to reflect projectiles or spycheck. It's also super useful for destroying rogue dispensers or teleporters quickly, since it destroys every building in 2 whacks. It's also useful for pushing into a sentry nest when a medic ubers you, flames/combo/reflect sentry rockets if you're good and spicy to quickly deal with the Engi and whack the sentry once or twice, depending on how much damage you've already done. Granted this only works if you can y'know, get to range of the sentry in time, but it's nice to know that you have a quick and oft unexpected elimination method.
I run the homewrecker because I just don't see anything else I could put in the melee slot being all that useful to me in normal gameplay if I can remove sappers with it. Synergy with the engineer is far more effective than some shitty nerfed mini crit that I wouldn't get anyways because I'm already burning them if I'm in melee range. Busting all that little snake's sappers at a critical moment can decide the whole match.

Less than a minute into the video and i’m already completely fine with the wait between videos. Amazing edits, mate.
Carry on with the amazing content.
But I think the issue with the degreaser is the lack of differences with stock. Really, we just need the stats to be more drastic and exaggerated and then we'll have a balanced but enticing combo weapon.
I've had an idea for a hit and run flamethrower that would be great for flanking.
@@muddashucka9743 What is it? I'm interested
@@Person897 Hit and run flamethrower stats:
Pros:
+On hit: gain a speed boost.
+200% longer afterburn duration.
+200% more afterburn damage dealt.
Cons:
-75% damage dealt.
-25 max health on wear.
Idea behind weapon/reasons for its stats:
Short version:
+Speed boost helps Pyro run from one foe to the next.
+Longer afterburn increases length of speed boost and helps Pyro kill foes with afterburn.
+Increased afterburn damage greatly helps Pyro kill foes with afterburn.
-Damage penalty means Pyro must rely on afterburn to kill foes.
-Health reduction means that while Pyro can run faster, he dies faster. Also means Pyro must rely on hit and run tactics to kill foes.
This weapon probably needs a lot of tweaking, so I'd love to get your feedback on it.
@@Person897 thanks :)
God this is such an amazingly made video
@@crack4184Yes. the soldier literally just needs to pull out his shotgun
Yeah it should be reverted to that with axwtinguiaher beibg buffed a bit too. They just nerfed it into the ground for no good reason.
The degreaser mixed with panick attack is just insane, if you wanna fight another pyro or make as much damage as you can in little time or finish your enemy off in case the afterburn won't cut it, the panich attack with degreaser is the best combo i know from the pyro's arsenal
I'm good at tracking with flames and tend to run stock with regular flare gun. I rarely lose a pyro duel to the shotgun vs my w+m1
My main issue with current degreaser is that its downside just doesn't feel that useful
It's not bad, but it's not really a "must" either
It's just there, it doesn't switch up things anymore, and at that point, I just prefer stock or the df
this. even with stock u can get axe combos on another pyro if your fast enough
I’m more surprised you didn’t talk about the infamous Reserve Shooter + Degreaser combo.
That was broken beyond belief, no point in talking about it
tbh one could argue it was more the reserve shooters fault
I love how the degreaser looks and hate how stock looks, but love how stock performs and hate how the degreaser performs
it's a constant battle of what flamethrower i wanna use
Degreaser +reserve shooter + axtinguisher was a sick combo back in 2014. Still miss it.
8:28 fun fact, that’s zenith on his playing soldier for a month video
0:45 - Equipping with the scorch shot sends you immediately to hell

Donkey kong
monke
I used to absolutely love puff&sting, that combo was fucking awesome and felt incredible to pull off. Now it’s just not really usable, in the time it takes you to puff and sting just like… torch then to death with stock lol
Combo pyro was so much fun I remember panning out degreaser confirms back when I was in highschool
Now I have the legal obligation of naming this weapon “The deceased”
I remember very vividly, when I was playing TF2 back in 2012-2015, people thought the degreaser was OP and some even said the airblast is stronger than stock. I played a lot of Saxton Hale though but it's very interesting that they came up with something like that but never was documented (or was made up) it seems...
I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that "weapon is so good that it's the best choice" = "dead".
Degreaser was nerfed because like you said, it made some combos braindead easy (axtinquisher).
It's still the best of Pyro's flame if you combo.
a few decimal numbers of faster switch speed isn't worth removing 75% of your afterburn damage lmao. If you can't combo with stock you just have skill issue
@@Game-ne5nb haha degreaser go speed
Ohhhh boy I can not wait to kill someone thanks to 2103158932058130 nanosecond switch speed I got from this straight up downgrade weapon community hypes about
The degreaser pairs pretty well with the panic attack, due to the stacking switch speeds allowing you to get a shotgun shot out while the flame particles are still in contact with the enemy.
The editing in this video is phenomenal. I don't know how you don't have more subs
This editing is so high tier, holy god damn shit. I hope this video blows up in views because it deserves it
I love how serious and awesome the videos are, as it feelsl like you are watching a genuinely beautiful rant from a true TF2 Veteran who has amassed a true following on all platforms.
And then the streams themself are utterly chaotic, loud, obnoxious and a bit questionable at times that always keep me coming back for more.
I am proud to be one of the lucky people here before that first triple digit milestone arrives, the one you most definitely deserve.
lordy lord this is absurdly well made, respect to you my friend :)
I think if the Degreaser had the following stats, it would be more clear that it is a combo weapon:
- Airblast cost increased to 30 ammo
- Projectile speed increased by 25%, effectively increasing the range and speed at which you can ignite targets
- 30% damage penalty, to make up for the longer range and combo potential
- 50% increased holster and deploy speed
-75% afterburn damage penalty
Also give the Backburner slightly stronger airblast for no reason other than funny :)
Is there any confirmation of that?
Your editing quality is awesome!
Seeing TF2 content in my recommended videos really feels like I’ve been taken back to my childhood. I’ve never played tf2 but I’ve always enjoyed the content surrounding the game.
the degreaser's airblast penalty comes into play a lot in competitive highlander, i prefer to run stock and do do most pyros i know
Aw man, no mention of the simply ungodly combo with the reserve shooter back in the day :(
Yeah that's what In was thinking
really well made vid, good editing and visuals, keep it up
2:56 "If random bullet spread doesn't eat half of them"
That's a miss you're showing my friend.
Not the best clip to illustrate that idea, yeah. But the point itself is true, random spread does tend to have a considerable impact at that range.
@@NotWendy3 It REALLY doesn't.
Degreaser went from my most used flamethrower to the one I never use.
Amazing content, man! It's suprising how small your channel is. But never give up, you'll eventually make it up there with the others! 🔥🔥🔥
The panic attack pairs pretty well with the degreaser, since it also has a reduced switch time. Combined you can constantly switch between degreaser and panic attack to deal high DPS
Also known as "Scout after a bad night at Taco Bell"
As LazyPurple said, you practically get to dual-wield the Degreaser and Panic Attack, allowing you to 1v1 Heavies.
damn for 10k subs your production value is crazyyy it's very visible that you care about the quality with the editing and everything 💙💙
I miss puff & sting so much. I was never amy good at it but I want it back
Raccoons need HUGS
First time I encounter this channel and I'm absolutely in love with the editing and the visual effects, keep up the good work, I've never been so interested in nerdy facts about a class I never play but the video quality and the narration made it awesome.
Degreaser with Reserve Shooter and Axtinguisher/Postal was so OP.
Airblast enemy up a wall or corner, shoot him, hit him if he's not already dead.
Very impressive editing on this video, my dude! Caught the algorithm on this one!
Dude, Your edit skill is way too good for this small amount of subs
You deserve more
having 10 airblasts vs 8 does get into play especially when stuffing an uber or protecting an engi nest against a dedicated spam. also afterburn can easily win you the flank or at least a good chance to trade with a scout in an enclosed space.
its weird how what might seem like a miniscule tweak in stats affected a whole classes perspective on meta
As soon as i saw "degreaser" on the title, i knew there was gonna be some sketchek clips lmao brilliant video
Combo pyro was the most fun man. I miss it so much. Props to Sketchek
10:20
because witnessing those combos in action (in tandem with rapid successful reflects) is both satisfying and invigorating
I'd like to thank each and every pyro that still uses the degreaser
Not dying to afterburn is very nice.
i named my degreaser "the depisser" because people get less pissed off from the afterburn (even though it hurts my gameplay)
Thx for your video editing skills. It’s absolutely hardwork and dedications
Magnificent editing and commentary, keep up the good work!
In my opinion stock is still better with shotguns because the afterburn can come into effect while still being engaged in combat
The editing on this vid goes so hard, good shit man
Thank god for this weapon showing me how fun this game could be thanks to Sketchek. Without him, I never would've spent thousands of hours on this 15 year old game
dude i only just came across this channel and those edits are more than worth stickin around fer more.
unironically one of the best tf2 vids i've seen for a long time, very cool!
This vid: talks about problems and some combos with the degreaser and flare guns
Me: uses degreaser and panic attack together
At most, the nerfs over the years just made combos less enticing and more encouraged playing pyro with just his shotgun out and swap to the degreaser to airblast stuff. In an odd way, that DID give the weapon an identity because the switch TO speed makes it the only one that can reliably play with their shotgun 90% of the time rather than awkwardly swapping to it when you see a scout. I just find it unfortunate because that gameplay style is uhh... pretty boring you just feel like a slightly bulkier gunslinger engineer.
degreaser is actually my main and I pair it with the panic attack and powerjack for an all around speedy boi
Stock might be very decent to use with the panic attack (not for switching back probs tho lol)
I recall LazyPurple primarily using the Degreaser with the Panic Attack for the switch speed, and it seems they have some synergy.
It's ok, but not great
@@commscan314 It increases your close range DPS at the HUGE cost of completely removing all your ranged options.
Flare pyro is basically beta demo lol
Also yeah degreaser is certainly better (since flamethrower dps is mediocre anyways) but 108 panic attack meatshots + stock afterburn can be rly good
@@speedody2171 You need to have the gun shoved up somebody's rectum to hit 108.
This man was possessed by the ghost of elmaxo during the editing of this video. I love it.
0:18 i miss this so freaking much as a scout main..
Dunno why i put off watching this for so long, the video and presentation is very well put together. Amazing work! :D
A Pyro weapon that's a direct upgrade to stock and yet there's little point to running it over other options available? Where have I heard this me before...
Not a direct upgrade at all.
the editing on this is smoking hot and makes me jealous, congrats on the work man!
Now thats some good quality video editing for such a small and underrated channel. Keep up your good work lad!
holy moly this is incredible editing, nice

Not possible anymore from airblasts, but that was a magical time
The editing in this video is really good.
Hope this gets more attention.
Absolutly godlike editing, I'm fond of this video
8:30 that clip of zenith being mad while screaming "MR BEA-" 💀
I'm baffled at this editing.... Good Job man!
I almost never play pyro but that video is so good and i want to rewatch it ∞.
Valve seeing community hates W+M1 playstyle on Pyro. "Why don't we nerf every other Pyro playstyle into obsoleteness?"
my man what a beautiful editing you have there, u got so much potencial.
That reveal at the end, assuming its true, truly shocked me, I never would have guessed.
This may very well be one of the best edited tf2 videos out there. Unbelievable job.
No. Filling the screen with unreadable information that forces you to pause the fucking video every two seconds to read it, completely breaking it's pace, is NOT "best edited tf2 video".
@@BloodOfTartaros You sir, are dyslexic
The other 25% was being done with Random Bullet Spread
Sidenote: I feel like people sleep hard on the Homewrecker.
