The following are the rules for fasting and abstinence: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards. Of course, older and younger persons can and should fast if possible. Due to age and medical conditions, not everyone can fast from food. However, all of us have something that we are attached to that we can give up during periods of fasting. The following is guidance provided by the United Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) if you would like more information on this important and sometimes mandatory discipline of the church. www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/liturgical-year-and-calendar/lent/catholic-information-on-lenten-fast-and-abstinence

Thank you Fr.Mike for your Wisdom and Guidance What would be the menium amount of time to be considered a legitimate fast. Would twelve hours be considered fasting?
It just depends on what you can do. Personally I’m going to abstain from eating until tomorrow. You can eat one meal and two snacks that don’t equal one whole meal if you can’t do this. If you can’t do that, abstain from meat.
In his book “Revelations- The Hidden Secret Messages and Prophecies of the Blessed Virgin Mary” by Xavier Reyes - Ayral, our Blessed Mother mentions fasting as eating only bread and water”. I had always thought of fasting as no food at all for a set period of time.
Fr Mike - as I am on the borderline of diabetes but not "officially" I have done some reading into this. Yes we in the west eat too much, and it's all refined foods. As a minimum - "time restricted fasting" (eating in a 6 hour window and fasting 18), or even better OMAD (one meal a day) has benefits. By stretching out the interval between food, insulin drops. Obviously don't eat a whole pile of pizzas when you do eat! But I would argue that even OMAD needs supplementation with the 5 day fast (below). Why? Because - even if insulin drops, but the body has not started burning fat. This is because most of us on "western" diets carry too much glucose (blood) and glycogen (stored in the liver). Prof Valter Longo is a gerontologist, and in his research, came up with a 5 day "mimicking" fast i.e. you still consume a bit of soup and nuts, but the body thinks it is fasting. There is a TED talk that is short with slides, and long interviews. The benefits are - because it is longer - all glycogen is used up. The body then burns stored fat as ketones. The body goes into stress thinking there's no food. BDNF (brain derived neurotropic factor) increases (presumably to remember how to find food). Autophagy starts - the body breaks down old damaged cells - this is equivalent to burning broken furniture to keep warm. Then, when re-eating starts, all is repaired anew. It's like blood donation causing new cells. Prof Longo has found that 5 days is the sweet spot. Go too long, like 10, and muscle mass and testosterone get affected. But 5 days - a short stress, then a rebuild. Another plus, controversial because most hospitals won't do this, is that during fasting, cancer cells are weakened. Most cancer cells feed on sugar, but not ketones. If weaker, you can reduce the chemo load. There is research into this - Prof Dominic D'Agostino, Dr Angela Poff - but most hospitals don't want to tell cancer patients "and now we're gonna starve you too".
EVEN SATAN KNOWS JESUS IS NOT GOD IN MARK 1:24, SATAN CALLED JESUS THE “HOLY ONE OF GOD,” YET PEOPLE REFUSE GOD'S WORDS THROUGH JESUS. INSTEAD, THEY PICK RANDOM VERSES THEY THINK SAY JESUS IS GOD: VERSES LIKE ISAIAH 9:6, WHICH SPEAKS OF WHAT MAN WILL CALL JESUS, REVELATION 22:13, JOHN 8:58, AND SO ON. HOWEVER, NOT ONE OF THEM PROVES JESUS IS GOD-BECAUSE HE ISN’T. PEOPLE NEED TO LISTEN TO THE WORDS OF JESUS WITH ALL THEIR HEART AND DENY THOSE WHO CONTINUE TO CLAIM JESUS IS GOD. JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD, AND GOD IS THE FATHER. EVERY WORD FROM JESUS CAME FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD, THE FATHER, FIRST (JOHN 12:48-50).

How do you fast when yow take medication that requires you to eat before taking it?
No one very died by giving up a meal or two
statistics say that average person eats 3500 calories a day which is almost TWICE what it should be
