    Great video. I did mine just the way you did yours. And it went up easy. Not easy with one person for the front canopy. Can be done. Just takes some practice.

    Love my tent. There is only two of us so we have lots of room. On those rainy days we have plenty of room to use the awning are to cook and eat in. I use one big tarp to go over both the tent and awning. I have camped numerous times in the winter and this set up has held up with no issues what so ever. I also use buddy heaters and have never been cold in the tent. The CO2 monitor is a great idea as well. Was in a really bad thunder storm and wind(40-50mph) two years ago and every thing held up.

    One of the best videos I have seen on the Kodiak canvas. Thank you for your time doing that. Beautiful family.
    I was hoping it would be a little bigger Inside. Debating if I should get it. I love the screened porch, however, the tent a bit small. 🤔 Need to make my decision quick. Few weeks out from camping with my daughters.

      Thanks for watching! I recently downsized from my giant 2XL bunk bed cot and got another smaller one. Now I can fit a queen sized air mattress between my two bunk bed cots. It definitely feels less cramped. The enclosed awning is the best. We can put all our gear in it and use the main tent for sleeping. I hope you find what you're looking for. Have fun camping with your daughters this summer!

    Just curious how well this tent is holding up now that y'all have had it a while. Have you been in any storms to speak of with the canopy out? We got a lot of wind in Oklahoma and I am wondering how well the canopy would hold up in the rain, I have had some awnings torn apart in the fall with storms blowing in from Kansas. Thanks for putting this video together and sharing it with us. I hope you and your family have a blessed week.

      HI Dale, sorry it took so long to reply. The tent and canopy have held up so well! We take it camping March-October so it's had to withstand some pretty good storms. It's been through wind, rain, snow... you name it! We've only had to tear down once in the pouring rain - brought it home and set it up in the backyard to dry out and it dried out fast. We use it a lot and haven't noticed any wear yet on the tent or canopy. I think the lag screws help a lot in the wind. Thank you for watching! :-)

    thank you for the informative video. looking at purchasing the kodiak do you find it cooler than other conventional tents? we have coleman instant 8 person and core 12 person, and looking to upgrade. is the awening space warmer than inside the tent?

    • @naturestruckfamilyadventur1678
      @naturestruckfamilyadventur1678  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm just waking up in my Kodiak as I read your comment. If the tent is in direct sunlight it will get just as hot inside as any other tent. I try to set it up in shade if possible and it stays pretty cool even on hot days. If none of the windows are open and everything is sealed up tight, the main tent gets considerably warmer than the awning area. If you open some windows and let the air flow through then they are about the same.

    I am having such a hard time deciding which tent to get. I love the look and idea of the 12x9 with the enclosure, but most of the time it will be me only. My wife will join me when possible I just get more time off than she does. I am going with either the 10x14 FlexBow, 12x9 without the enclosure, or the 12x9 with the enclosure. How hard is it to put up by yourself and do you guys usually put it up, or is it something that stays rolled up because it is too much trouble? I will usually camp for 2-3 nights at a time.

    • @beardedwonder2346
      @beardedwonder2346 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My girlfriend friend and I love the 12x9 but don't really use the enclosure just the awning with tables underneath it and it doubles as a porch if it rains. I'd recommend the 12x9 with the optional enclosure. We always receive compliments on our tent ⛺. Good luck on your decision

    How well does that size Buddy heater do for this tent? Do you find that you run it through the night or does it get warm enough to basically cycle it on/off as needed?

    • @naturestruckfamilyadventur1678
      @naturestruckfamilyadventur1678  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It works great. The canvas seems to hold the heat well but is still breathable for ventilation. I've camped through snowstorms and this little heater was enough to make it comforrable. The amount of time I run the heater totally depends on outside temps. I do a lot of spring and fall camping in Idaho. It can get pretty cold. I run the heater all night in those situations. In the summer if I'm camping in higher elevations it can still cool down quite a bit and I'll use the heater intermittently. Thanks for watching!

      There are two versions of the cabin tent. You can buy it with the canopy like we did or without the canopy. The wall enclosure for the canopy is sold separately. With a family of 6, the tent sleeps us just fine but we like the extra space the canopy gives us to store our bags etc :-)

    Good video. I recommend at least double ing up on the CO detector. Can't be too safe.

  • @fredbear205
    @fredbear205 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I read some comments on a you tube video from a fireman that the kiddie carbon monoxide detector u have there is for household use only, and can not detect anything coming off of your buddy heater. I have the same tent and I had.... the same heater just returned it because anything that burns propane will emit some harmful gas, I am by no means an expert at all, but I did return mine due to what I read in the comments. If your at a campground I would use an electric heater. Look up "are BUDDY HEATERS SAFE inside an rv?? Then read the comments from the firefighter.

    • @naturestruckfamilyadventur1678
      @naturestruckfamilyadventur1678  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for your reply! We were nervous about the Buddy Heater at first too. I haven't been able to find that video you talked about but we've done a lot of research and the only camping carbon monoxide poisoning cases we could find were either an old Coleman model propane heater or when people took in a propane cooking stove for heat. One big thing is even with the oxygen sensor and carbon monoxide detector, we ALWAYS vent our tent just to be safe and put our propane tank outside. Even when it's cold outside, the heater keeps it warm enough to leave air circulation and it's worth the peace of mind. What kind of heater did you buy instead? It would be awesome if someone would make a detector specifically for non-household use. I will definitely research it some more - thank you!

      @@naturestruckfamilyadventur1678 Hello , look up " Homemade tent heater" on you tube it's pretty interesting, or I would go with an electric heater if your on grid, or hook up a low watt electric heater to a small generator. No carbon monoxide with either off these options. Also take a look at zodi.com there tent heater looks interesting expensive but once again no carbon monoxide. I'm still seaching for the best solution. It's tough, I don't want to cut a hole in my Kodiak tent to install a stove either. I'm kinda lost. I'll keep u posted when I settle on a decision. I really wish the buddy heater would work but I just don't feel like it's safe.

      The footprint for the tent itself is 12' x 9'. If you choose to enclose the canopy it gives you another 8' x 8.5'. Depending on where you buy the tent it will cost around $680. The wall enclosure for the canopy will run you another $100. In my opinion it's worth every penny. We've had ours for two years now and have spent over fifty nights in it through all kinds of weather. The tent is still as good as the day we bought it.

    Why did you screw the tent pegs down.?

    • @CenturianCornelious
      @CenturianCornelious 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think he did it because it's very easy and the screw threads will hold better than a smooth stake, and because removing stakes is often difficult. It's a great idea.

    • @naturestruckfamilyadventur1678
      @naturestruckfamilyadventur1678  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I choose to use the screws for a few reasons. The screw threads hold better than the smooth stakes thus making the tent more secure. The main reason for me though is to save my back. I have chronic lower back pain so the less time I have to spend bent over pounding in a tent stake the better. It's especially helpful while removing them. I don't have to bend over and yank on the stakes, I simply zip the screws in and out with my cordless drill. Also when you're removing the regular tent stakes it's hard to resist pulling on the tent itself to get the stake removal started. Over time you can rip the stake loops or even the tent itself. I've seen it happen. The regular stakes work well and Kodiak Canvas did a good job providing big durable stakes. I just like the screws better.
