this was filmed on a tuesday, most people in Girard work in Springfield or elsewhere. I remember when all the businesses were open on the square and even open on saturday nights when the farmers came to town to do their weekly shopping. there were 4 grocery stores on the square, my dad was the butcher in one of them.

Born and raised on a farm outside of Girard, graduated from Girard High School long before it was consolidated with our rival, Virden. Parents lived on the farm until the day my dad died in 2013. The best people I know are from Girard, Illinois! Love this video!

LOL, I was thinking there was more traffic in this video than I usually see in my hometown , it’s a small town!
my hometown, lived there from 1947 to 1987 when I moved to GA.
Are that’s pretty cool brother I’m 61 now we moved from Beloit Wisconsin to Peoria Illinois when I was three or still doing good here take care
@@gregbennett2231 lived in Peoria twice, from 72-74 and from 77 , when I got married, to 81, when Pabst closed, and we moved back to Girard.

Noticed that it's become a "thing" to asphalt a big mass around the town squares.
That's true, and it's sometimes hard to tell where you're actually supposed to turn, whether it's one way or two way, etc

Originally all main streets in older towns were Brick! Shame they covered them over!
