This is why early access games is slapped on my wishlist for me to track their progress and wait for them to be finished, or atleast finished enough to be a full experience. Instead of buy them, playing them, getting tired of them, and ruining my first playthrough. A first play of a game is magical and can never be "had again".
Played this with my brother, definitely still very rough but it has a lot of potential to be great if the devs stick with it, which is never a guarantee for Early Access.
I'm done with buying early access games that 'have potential' - I've enough of them already in my library - unless it looks like really something special, and this just doesn't.

This game has great potential. The development team is very open with their community in discord and they do have a very ambitious road map for the game. So far they have been delivering on the updates they have planned.
I think the game is worth the current price. I got 45 hours out of it so far and didn't even clear half the POIs. It definitely has room for improvement notably the base raids, which are too frequent and escalate way too quickly as well as some of the resources being a bit too grindy. It has a good foundation and I'll definitely be playing it again when it's finished.
Yea we played with like 4 people and it was very grindy still...and once we started to feel like we were getting somewhere..incoming raid would break shit that took hours to collect shit to make...so yea needs some tweaking...Also instead of just periodic raids...which are fine if they are rare...id rather have like counter attacks because you say attacked a certain faction.... but this also should not be super often...
When I see that game, I just think "why not play Cyberpunk instead?" Unless your a big Robocop fan and want the nostalgia. If they had a bigger budget for Robocop I could see it being incredible but from the trailer it looks like a 2015 game. Hopefully the gameplay is good.
The demo is pretty good, the graphics are nice but very demanding, so it needs more optimisation before it's released. Little bit of stuttering here and there so an SSD is highly recommended. I would also like to see a WAB on the full game.
Thanks for this in depth review! I was about to buy this, because its on sale in the Steam winter sale....but i think im gonna wait. Give the devs more time to put some TLC into it. Hopefully they make it just a bit nicer to play in single player... none of my friends like survival games so ill be playing solo.
Get away driver/farmer/crafter. Very useful. I think if you played this youd get the itch to get over your fear. I say get in there before more terrors of the deep get added.

So the developer(s) gets $6.72 per sale, assuming they don't have a publisher or other expenses. Honestly anything 20 and under is reasonable for any half decent game, when you have no clue how many copies you'll sale and have put in years of work.
Horrific take, no one is forcing these people to make these games. Products get bought for the value that they are worth. This game has terrible AI and not much else to offer, it's not worth the price it is currently at, simple as that.
@apk4381 $6.72 means that they'd need to sell 1800 copies just to make a minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. Assuming they only worked 40 hrs a week on it. That isn't a huge ask when they've likely made nothing off the game till now and have no clue if it'll even sell 100 copies. Comparing everything to lower priced options in the game industry is a great way to have devs race to the bottom.
Um, im not a tax expert but I see the current UK main corportion tax rate is 25 percent. it was 20 last year, which I thought it still was. Steams cut is disgusting, but its a co-dependant relationship that wouldnt have brought a lot of things to light if it didnt exist. When you hit it big it almost doesnt matter. If Steam didnt exist you (indie game devs) probably wouldnt either.
No word about the hidious lod/texture popin , the weird boat behavior on the water or the second-by second visible shader updates on trees/shadows? That was a HUGE no on for me tbh, completely put me off.
I got 60 hours of pretty good fun out of it. The raiders AI isn't so great but since they throw a lot at you it sort of balances out. I did all the content and the dev added a few islands while I was finishing it up. I think the price is on the high end but worth buying. More elaborate crafting would be nice I suppose.
I think its decent. As a survival fan, enjoyed the deep dives and taking on islands solo. The game cycle is fun. Its got a bit of EA jankiness, but the core concept is still worth the price. Sleeper hit, not huge but will do well in the long run. More fun than most triple As.

I am usually all for bashing on recent video game pricing. But 16 pound or 19.5 euro really isn't much, is it? Would it be much better if it was 3 euro cheaper like Valheim?

Why are complains about indie pricing even a thing? Game prices have not increased for literally 30 fucking years... Of course AAA games aren't even full games anymore so they don't count in this argument - but indie games haven't increased in price either. They are not increasing with inflation [and indie devs are subsisting on each release]

I think you're missing the point he is making regarding the price. He isn't saying the game is expensive, he is saying that compared to similar games in that area, it's overpriced and considering what you're getting, he's not wrong. He explains this, so I am not sure how you could have missed it.

(i see there are windows, which i assume CAN be fired through, this is great) Either you can shoot out, and they cant shoot back in = Game way to easy to cheese You can shoot out but they can also shoot back in = You will end up being constantly shot even though you are inside your home, and although you can shoot out, this will be extremely frustrating. In my humblest opinion your statement was not actually very thought out. They made it so the houses look sorta makeshift, you are not gonna have perfectly cut 2x4/2x6 planks/beams afterall.
This game suffers from the "some parts look nice and the rest looks very dated". I think it's actualy a negative to have a few parts look good and the majority not, it makes the visuals stand out more. The pop in in just absoluetly insane though.
Played this for about 25 hours with my mate until we claimed every island on the map and got to mess around with the helicopter. It's a pretty solid survival game but definitely still needs some work, but I feel like I already got my money's worth. One thing I liked was the fact that everything was so straightforward, I'm really not a fan of survival games where you constantly have to look up guides and the wiki to figure out what you're doing

I love Rust, just wish they had a me vs. AI mode or campaign. I hate encountering those tryhards and you having to restart your build/collection. It gets boring for it happens three time.
What price did Valheim release in early access for? They weren't super cheap were they? I can't remember. I think some of these studios use the early access money as a way to fund development, which if you end up with a £40 game for $17 or so isn't a bad deal to get in early. If they stick with the game, and keep improving it, for free over time, and slowly increasing it's cost to go with the content I really don't mind. Better than £70 for some of the SH*TE that has been released lately.
This sort of logic is why most early access games are never finished. People to willing to part with their cash in the belief it will be some sort of amazing game at the end. Easy money for a developer who has no intention of finishing.
Amazing how folks can make comparisons between games which have nothing to do with each other. This is game like H2o but Valheim, not even close. I like H2o Pre-Steam version (not the pile of poo that is sold) more. Sunkenland is not a bad game.
Love the game, but it needs a lot of improvement, balancing and bugfixing. Plus it is kinda rudderless a the moment, there are no goals. If they keep on working at it, it has a ton of potential. But that is EA for ya.

Hard disagree. Raft is great but right now id say sunkenland offers more interest long term plus with raft being 1.0 this has more potential. I dont care if a company buys assets, rents an engine and then makes something good. Something That I feel doesnt quite exist right now. I just purchased this on steam. Normally I dont touch EA with a barge pole. Last EA title I bought was Terra invicta. One before that was, well I dont. Disagree this isnt worth 16 quid. This is doing some things that Valheim isnt, plus the work thats gone into the POI's just doesnt exist in Valheim. 7 days to die has been in EA for 10 years. thats a bad joke. 7 days to die isnt early access anymore, I dont care what steam or the devs say. Their development is glacial. On the topic of crafting, who cares if you have to wait for 10 seconds of hammer time, that is literally irrelevance. On the topic of gunplay Kage848 has a lets play where hes opening his window shutters and sniping a raid outside his base, and that predates this video by a month.
the devs set ea pricing for what they want game to cost across it's EA life, maybe not worth the purchase right now, they ain't in a price tug of war with competition. Games you've mention have been around for a while this is something new and 16 pounds or 20$ is not that much of an ask.
Worth A Buy is one of the last real game reviewers we have. Aside from that, for the first time I have to disagree. This game is well worth 20 bucks. I've got 60 hours out of it and haven't upgraded my workbench to max, nor have I explored every Island. If you have a friend it's especially well worth the price of admission. Especially if you have had your fill of Valheim and the 3 other good survival games that have been out for 10 years

If anyone wants a more polished Valheim clone, then Enshrouded is the safest bet. It's also available for testing right now.
I recommend it too! It's only a demo but it has decent amount of content, dedicated servers for 8players and it's a lot of fun!

Amazing how folks can make comparisons between games which have nothing to do with each other. This is game like H2o but Valheim, not even close. I like H2o Pre-Steam version (not the pile of poo that is sold) more. Sunkenland is not a bad game.

Love the game, but it needs a lot of improvement, balancing and bugfixing. Plus it is kinda rudderless a the moment, there are no goals.
If they keep on working at it, it has a ton of potential. But that is EA for ya.

I'm glad you qualified that this game isn't worth $20 and isn't as good as valheim/rust/7dtd, etc... but that begs the question how did this get a thumbs up? Would a $200 asset flip that's fun also get a thumbs up? I don't agree with the conclusion, but good points made in the video.

I love your reviews but wow. These dev's rented Unity engine, bought some online assets, placed them randomly around a map, and collected money. It's actually worse than Raft.
Hard disagree. Raft is great but right now id say sunkenland offers more interest long term plus with raft being 1.0 this has more potential.
I dont care if a company buys assets, rents an engine and then makes something good. Something That I feel doesnt quite exist right now. Something Ive enjoyed playing a lot and this is only the second game ive ever bought in EA. If you ignore that 7 days to die and ark are perpetually EA. (/they are not).

I just purchased this on steam. Normally I dont touch EA with a barge pole. Last EA title I bought was Terra invicta. One before that was, well I dont.
Disagree this isnt worth 16 quid. Disagree this isnt as good as Valheim. This is doing some things that Valheim isnt, plus the work thats gone into the POI's just doesnt exist in Valheim.
7 days to die has been in EA for 10 years. thats a bad joke. 7 days to die isnt early access anymore, I dont care what steam or the devs say. Their development is glacial.
On the topic of crafting, who cares if you have to wait for 10 seconds of hammer time, that is literally irrelevance.
On the topic of gunplay Kage848 has a lets play where hes opening his window shutters and sniping a raid outside his base, and that predates this video by a month.
The look reminds me on older 7Day.

I think the UI is largely default Unity, which is how Rust was (and still is to a large degree, people got used to it).

the devs set ea pricing for what they want game to cost across it's EA life, maybe not worth the purchase right now, they ain't in a price tug of war with competition.
Games you've mention have been around for a while this is something new and 16 pounds or 20$ is not that much of an ask.
The 'lack of crafting animation' is so far from being any sort of real issue with this game. 😂

Worth A Buy is one of the last real game reviewers we have. Aside from that, for the first time I have to disagree. This game is well worth 20 bucks. I've got 60 hours out of it and haven't upgraded my workbench to max, nor have I explored every Island. If you have a friend it's especially well worth the price of admission. Especially if you have had your fill of Valheim and the 3 other good survival games that have been out for 10 years

@GangsterFrankensteinComputer you obviously don't know much about programming or make a video game then lol. This game probably has like 3 devs. Diablo 4 took 9 years and had 9000 employees. Bad example considering it's Blizzard but you get the idea
