The middle ranks of the officer corps are the ultimate expression of military adaptability. Not only can they take charge and lead both squad and starship, they can craft battle plans that both confound and frustrate their enemies. The most dangerous species of field grade fleet officer is one who knows the limits of her authority and how to exceed them without jeopardizing what is most important. I love some the comparisons he uses there's one in book one that I don't remember exactly but I doubled over when I heard it. After I finish the book I'll go back and listen for it again
