    My take on this:
    In short, Awwwards is a "from designers for designers" type of site - presenting products that are trendy, cool, full of emotions, interactions and innovation. But most of the time those websites aren't as usable as people would like them to be, or accessible as they should be (low contrast, over-animated, keyboard-only usage etc.). Of course, it doesn't mean that these trendy websites can't be like that, point is as I said - Awwwards is mostly area where designers/developers try to amaze other designers/developers. You don't easily find there a really "simple, clean, kinda boring" site, that is visited and used by thousands of (returning) people on daily basis.

    I'm a frequent visitor of AWWWARDS and to be fair, I have learnt a great deal from it. Big fonts emphasizes on the importance of tagline. Cursor effects creates interactivity and subtle hidden animations, different scrolling also creates a unique vibe to the website.
    One thing is true that you said, is that many sites lag on loading. But the point of awwwards is to encourage innovations in design and there's a limit with what you can do by just following the rules of UX. Just watch the monthly awards and you'll see how different they are and how difficult they are to create.
    The thing that you said that most of the sites are similar is actually very wrong and highly offensive to the designers. Try to replicate one site and you'll understand what lies underneath all those "formula"...

    • @AmodeusR
      @AmodeusR 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think what he meant by "similar" is about trendy stuff. You can see virtually everyone of those sites had animations, smooth scroll and loading screens.

    • @DieterPrivate
      @DieterPrivate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Those sites aren't usable, they are just to show off fancy thing, without actually thinking about daily usage. Off course, they look great and artsy, that's it.

    • @agnisaha4996
      @agnisaha4996 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AmodeusR Yes, every site has animations and loading screens. But what kind of animation, what library (if any) is used to create those, how the user is drawn into it, all of these matters.

    • @agnisaha4996
      @agnisaha4996 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DieterPrivate Well yeah, as I said, the main point of Awwwards is to encourage creativity, interactivity, designing skills and not functionality. Most of the websites that get nominated are actually promotional websites and in these cases you WANT your site to look trendy and attractive.
      Ps: notice that I made the word want in whole caps? Well that is a "huge offender" of grammer. But I want you to emphasize on that word. Doesn't it conveys my feeling better?

    Just small thing about adding smooth scroll/custom scroll/locomotive scroll (or however you want to call it). On some of the websites, when you want to use webgl libraries and sync the scroll positions with no jittering/shaking of elements - then you're kind of forced to use some custom scroll

      Literally from the awwwards website: "The awards for design, creativity and innovation on the Internet."
      All I see in this comments are old people that are used to copy basic designs, so anything more convoluted is called "art".

      Every website that wins at the "site of the day" award, gets a score on their design, usability, creativity, content and developer. So yeah, while the website might be an artsy and creative one, they are judged on the basis of real world scenario....
      And as for your case, if you're just focusing on either the functionality or the design of the website, then you're a pretty outdated developer.
