      Happy to help! Normally I just look to see if enough bulk is removed uniformly across the whole section. You don’t want any be holes or gaps in your section and you don’t want your ends to be super see through, just lighter and less block looking

    Thanks for this! My hair is too choppy. I've point cut a bit and it looks great. I'll do the rest.
    I much prefer the point cut side. It sounds counterintuitive but the point cut ends look fuller than the ends that have been left thick. Plus the point cut side has movement. The other side just hangs. This was the issue I had.

    How can I convince my stylist to actually do this AND the thinning on my ends? Every time I go to a stylist (and I've been to many because no one can get it right), I ask them to point cut and use the thinning shears on the end, but they say they don't normally do point cuts on anything but bangs, or they grimace because they love my thick hair and don't want there to be less of it. I don't want to argue with them, so I just let them do their thing, then hate my hair for a year until it's so long that any structure doesn't really matter. I'm convinced that all hair stylists just adore thick hair because they know about hair, but I sure as heck don't and need WAY less of it to make managing it feel less exhausting. Help!

    • @TheAngeSchofield
      @TheAngeSchofield  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Personally I would just be direct and say something like “I’m not trying to tell you how to do your job BUT for my thick hair to lay and style the way I like I would love for you to point cut my ends and use the thinning shears to break up the thickness on the bottom a little more” and before you make any appt with anyone new ask them from the very start if they have ever done a point cut hairstyle and used thinning shears on thick hair? That way you can weed out the ones that won’t do it on your hair.... I hope that helps ❤️

      I sooo get you! I had one stylist a few years ago, now retired who got me and my hair, layers, texture and the thinning at the bottom, I have thin hair but a lot of it, and when it’s short, like below collar bone it gets heavy and she always knew what to do. She also understood cutting the hair away from my face to frame it. I hope you find someone who gets you.

  • @lizziebee0001
    @lizziebee0001 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for this video. I really enjoyed it. You made it really easy to follow. I have very thick but fine hair. When I do a blunt cut, my hair sticks out like a triangle / wedge at the bottom with the volume of hair. Will point cutting reduce that wedge shape or would I need to do some thinning on the underside of my hair as well as this point cutting technique on the ends? Also would this type of point cutting create more frizz?

    • @TheAngeSchofield
      @TheAngeSchofield  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I honestly would do both. The thinning will definitely help with the triangle shape and remove a lot the bulking at the bottom! It won’t create more frizz but if you do have curl to your hair you may notice more curls because there isn’t weight at the bottom

    Hiya, my hairdresser retired! I have found another hairdresser who has blunt cut my short layers. I have a natural wave to the ends of my hair which, when point cut, flicks.
    I have a pair of hairdressing scissors and think I could do it myself.
    Should I cut it wet or dry please?
    Hold the layers up or down. When held up, they are blunt cut.
    Many thanks.

    • @TheAngeSchofield
      @TheAngeSchofield  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally would suggest getting texturizing shears or thinning shears. You can pick out the desired texture you want based on the gaps between the teeth, this would give you a quicker results with less margin for error doing it yourself. I would do it dry so you can see where the blunt sections are

    Your hair is gorgeous! I did point cutting on my hair to take the weight off, but when it comes to drying it to get that sleek tapered look you have, I end up looking like I tried to curl my hair under which is not the look I want at all. I tried this with a 2 inch round brush. Any ideas?

    I have superfine hair but I have always hated blunt ends on me. I feel like it’s a constant battle with stylists to get them to do this. Textured ends on fine hair must not be very common.. I know it’s more damaging.

    • @TheAngeSchofield
      @TheAngeSchofield  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on the person or client. If i had a client that wanted it with fine hair I would just do a few snips on the ends. Sometimes it might be helpful with someone with fine hair as it creates softness and movement without having to do layers.

    Y’know I can never find a stylist to cut my hair they way that it flatters my face. I have more experience with my hair than any hairdresser so if I start telling you how to cut my hair, listen!!!!
    My husband can cut my hair better.
    I’ve watched enough videos to know the lingo and I thought this would help. Pictures, lingo telling the stylist what I like and don’t like… doesn’t matter, my hair always gets butchered.

    I’m sooo sick of the new generation hair dressers who don’t know the point-cutting technique - here in Denmark at least, they have noo idea whatsoever. Who on earth cuts a blunt V-cut? And that without point-cutting it afterwards. It frustrates me endlessly😤😤 I just paid $50 for a haircut, it is so blunt despite the fact that I told her to point-cut it. Now I’m gonna do it myself. I shouldn’t have paid her more than half the price. Sorry for the vent, I’m just so done with the hairdressers over here😞
