Those were the days of little wealth inequality unlike today. Small city streets looked similar to so called big cities like Mumbai and Pune.
And before you think otherwise, India was the second richest country in the world after China in 1800s. Our share of world economy was at least 26% , probably more. Alas while our cities have grown and become concrete jungles, villages are left behind.
To understand what actual India was, visit villages of Europe.
