I mean, that's the problem with high damage characters, there's usually needs to be some offset for their big numbers. Release Bison aside, Akuma has low HP, Aki has poison requirements, and Marisa has less options to get touches. The moment Marisa gets better options, her combos become too accessible. Even now, every touch from her can result in easy crazy damage, so getting the touch needs top remain difficult.

High damage can be qualified as a gimmick in of itself, but couple that with armor, armor breaks, and charge moves, you have an abundance of out of the ordinary traits to balance around. Not to mention practically full screen moves and a command parry mix up. Theres only two ways to approach gimmicks in character design, you either weaken them to be unimpactful, or you take away from foundational areas. Generally speaking, what often becomes the strongest character on a roster ends up getting away with strong gimmicks and well rounded foundations. Such as vanilla Deejay or Ken. Where as characters that end up on the bottom are almost always ones with gimmicks that arent overwhelmingly good but their base is to weak to even make them work consistently like release Aki. Its important people understand this and have a grasp on whether their characters core design is around stronger gimmicks or stronger baseline gameplay so they don't get frustrated when E Honda isn't given above average walk speed and a jamie length sweep. Sorry for the essay, it actually made me a little happy to see someone point this out. With the histrionics of balance patches its nice when people understand this very core part of character balance.
