Would you be alright for the price point for games to change from 60 dollars to 80 dollars if it meant the reduction or elimination of the more shady tactics? The main price point for games has not changed in my memory, but the amount of money that it takes and the number of staff it takes as well as the amount of time it takes to make a good game has certainly increased.

You all are being too hard on them. It's obvious they want to speed up their progression of fighting to get loot boxes in Belgium.
So we help them like they've helped us. For $50 you can have 3 letters, there's a 2% chance to have ones supporting your cause in there and 98% against. If you want the premium Letter Box, it's only $99 for 10 letters +1 with a 5% chance of getting ones for your cause with a guarantee of getting at least one good letter. (Chances listed are common drop rates of loot boxes in mobile games)

@Mesut Bektaş Matt Hancock is right wing. The British government is right wing. The Labour party is still mostly central, the left wing isn't represented in Britain's parliament. The issue of immigration is a problem but it's because we keep attacking places like Syria and then we're surprised they have refugees.
I'm not going to lie I do think there is a cultural issue and the Arabic culture isn't ready to integrate with western life. Both cultures need to evolve a little more first. You can't blame the left wing in Britain, because there hasn't been a left wing for about 50 years.

DLC can some times be a good thing I might add...
      For example...
Halo 3. It's first dlc was a map pack that contained a map called foundry. The devs first launched the game and one of the biggest things they did was add a map editor type mode into the game for multiplayer. The game launched and people LOVED the map editor. They had ideas for how to make it better. So what did bungie do at the time? They took the feedback from fans into consideration and made a map that was far more user friendly for map making. The results were very good. It was only 10 bucks too and today it's completely free. It was also free several years ago if you got odst. It's also free with mcc but that game is broken so let's not talk about that lolz.
Still though... I much more prefer it when the game ships complete. It's much more simple that way. I don't like having to worry about all these lil extra costs. Remember getting smash bros 64 or smash melee? Great times and you just paid once... I miss those days lol.
This micro transaction shit though... Wow it's lame. If you thought dlc was lame... Micro transactions are like 1000 times worse. Typically a games dlc is just 10-50 bucks extra tops. Sometimes more since they are getting worse just like most things in gaming. But it wont break your bank. Micro transactions can put costs onto the player that go into the thousands of dollars realm. WTF?!?!?!?

Stuart Fonix I kinda get why it can’t be like that anymore, games are large and complex now with impressive graphics, lots of people work on them that need to get paid. Like, Sid Meier created most of the code for first Civilization game on his own, while he says for the new ones it would be impossible, there are hundreds of people working on them now.

+Carcer Harlson "The AAA pubs are subtly implying that they know the country's laws better than the very government that enforces them."
Do you have any idea how the legal system works?
Half of what you fucking do in court is argue in favor of your own interpretation of the law in front of a judge. Not only is everyone _allowed_ to have opinions about what is legal and what isn't, it's actually _necessary_ for a just legal system that they be allowed to _share_ those opinions.
"The government" doesn't enforce laws because the government isn't one unified body. A _specific_ branch of the government enforces laws. Another branch of the government adjudicates the laws. Another branch of the government creates laws. This is important because, as it turns out, you're allowed to tell the part of the government that adjudicates the law how you think it should be adjudicated. Now, it doesn't have to listen to or agree with you, but you're definitely allowed to share your opinions.
There is nothing wrong with telling the government that it's misinterpreting its own laws. In fact, its your moral obligation to do so: everyone should do that as _much_ as possible _whenever_ they think it's happening. That's the only way to hold the government accountable when it abuses its power.
Jesus christ you people are retarded. Take your argument and fucking apply it to some other situation. Like, the government putting you in prison under charges of sedition for criticizing a politician. What, you're not allowed to say anything because you're "telling the government how to enforce its laws???" Think about how fucking stupid that sounds. _Obviously,_ you're allowed to share your fucking opinions about how the government is enforcing its laws.
      Use your fucking head, dumbass.

If I've learnt anything from psychology is that these people in positions of power are either psychopaths or sociopaths, I say this because they don't believe anything they're doing is wrong and despite all the pushback and all the regulations they're still unable to sympathise or empathise with their customers and all they want is money, and at this point I start asking at point have you accrued enough money, because the bonuses a lot these people get is more money than they can spend in a lifetime, but I digress from the point.
When you look at it from a business point they're still swindling customers regardless of whether they think its a part of gaming culture or not, you pay an average of $60 dollars for what? half of a game that's most probably buggy or uses the same code or engine may be even reskinned, pay another $20-$30 for a season pass or $20 per a DLC ooooor you pay small increments of $2-$100 for randomly generated lootboxes which are integrated into gameplay just to get the full experience.
A lot of these companies have generated enough revenue to deliver quality games at an efficent rate and make a profit from the solid customer base they have... so I'm not understanding. Just do your job as game company, produce games make customers happy, make money for said service.

I can excuse micro-transactions or DLC's in FTP games and games that continue to develop and ship updates years after the game itself is released. Development costs money, and money has to come in somehow. If your game is Free to Play or you're continuing to pay a large development team to support the game well after the profits of the initial purchases have dried up, you need to have a continuous income somewhere. I'd much prefer companies putting out DLC's alongside free updates than companies abandoning a game on release with all it's problems and putting out a new full-priced game next year to ensure profits.
What really annoys me is companies putting in micro-transactions or clearly not-worth-it DLC's to a full-priced game that they're paying the bare minimum to support, if even that (Looking at you, 2K), or games that are technically Free to Play but are borderline impossible and unfun without reaching for your wallet.

To buy a game and not have to worry about spending more money on it whilst hoping it will be worth it or not...
Micro transaction loot box pay to win endless trash that makes unlocking the full game and doing everything in the game potentially costing over 1000 dollars is pretty gay compared just a few 10 dollar dlc packs but still... I'm just saying... I liked it better when the game just comes out and BAM... That's it.

I guess 2K is just another company that wants to be blacklisted by gamers?
If any game company tries to push the _choice_ BS with loot boxes, then consumers should react by not buying their games. Simple. If consumers stop buying their games, it's only then when that company will admit that they were BS'ing and will try to actually make a game and not a virtual gambling experience, but by then the damage will have been done over and over to the point where they won't be making money.

This is why regulation is a NECESSITY.
Corporations don't do the right thing on their own, and will ALWAYS do whatever they can get away with to increase profits. The more they are allowed to get away with, the more they try to get away with.
When DLC first started becoming a "thing", many people excused it by saying it was just a choice to get some extra content like skins and visual upgrades, but it eventually led to making DLC a mandatory purchase now known as "pay to win", in order to remain competitive in a purposely unbalanced game.
Now we have endless microtransactions that we are constantly told are unavoidable, because "that's just the way it is nowadays....".
Boycotting still works, and until people exercise self control, things will never change.

Regulations is what prevents you from getting sick as food establishments, making sure cars are built a certain standard for safety, child labor laws, labor laws, etc. All are necessary regulations. Let's talk 2k numbers here.
You can earn up to 1200VC per NBA game, 250-300VC per Park game, 900-1100VC per Pro-am
Stats boosts are 500VC per. Layup, Dunk, Handles, Passing, Rebounding, Defense and I think I'm missing few of them.
2k gives people options to boost their players for about 5000-6000VC per game.
This isn't "We're trying to give options to people who don't want to grind their player from 60 Ovr". This is a "payme $1-2 per game to be the best player on the court". Unfortunate reality of modern gaming my ass.

It's so sad to me that the industry has turned into this. It used to be that pacing and progression was a part of good game design that belonged in the only game we purchased not something for us to pay more for.
The downloadable generation has ruined things. Games are increasingly released in an unfinished and buggy state so that they can make money sooner and hopefully be fixed later. When I was a kid, I bought a new cartridge at the store and knew that the game should work great out of the box because there was no internet connection in my Nintendo 64 for devs to hamfist fixes into a broken game that I already paid for. Patches are great. Let's be clear on that. What they are not, is an excuse to sell an inferior product. The industry wants to raise the prices on their products while also lowering the quality. This can't continue. Can anyone smell a crash coming?
My message to the powers that be of the gaming industry as a whole: greed will serve you now but not in the future. Do not make us lose faith in this industry as a whole again and relive what happened in 1983. It took a miracle from Nintendo to revive the industry and lightning rarely strikes twice. Sure you can swindle us all you want today and laugh all the way to the bank. But what happens tomorrow when we have all wised up to it and don't play into your bullshit anymore? Every gamer out there including myself, wants to play great games until we're 90 years old beyond. And I'm sure that video game companies would like to continue to have good sales numbers until I'm 90 and beyond. Greed is not feasible for long term success.

    • @retrohanska4441
      @retrohanska4441 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You're not the only one. My prediction though is that the crash happens not because of preorder culture but because of this new "live service" bullshit. When everyone tries to tie players to minimal amount of games with minimal amount of effort, at some point players and the time and cash they can spend simply hits their limit. And when that happens, some major titles are bound to fail, horribly. And when every AAA company have put all their eggs in that basket without plan B like they always do, it's not something they can fix in next few years. When that happens, investors abandon the ship and it may be just easier to quit altogether and save what's left.
But what our predictions have in common is the lack of effort in AAA game industry. It's gonna bite them in the ass one way or another, especially when companies like Nintendo always prove them wrong by delivering top quality games without all that nickle and diming that's supposed to be required

    • @22hattrick
      @22hattrick 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@retrohanska4441 I wasn't even referring to pre orders but that brings another concern. Pre-ordering doesn't even make sense in the post-digital era. Once upon a time games were sold on a physical medium and there were finite limits on how many discs could be pressed or cartridges flashed between the date that a game went gold and the date the games went on sale. Pre-ordering ensured that you were reserved your copy on day one. Now putting a digital version on a server somewhere, unlimited amounts of copies can get almost anywhere in the world. There is no reason to pre-order a game when supply is not an issue.
All pre-ordering does is give publishers more excuses to half-ass a game before it's finished because they've already made their money.

Now Game preview games are games still in development that we pay 30-40$ to own. And play it long story short were paying the game developlers to play and test there game so they don't haft to hire and pay people to test there game, on top of that then when the full release comes out people buy the game full price and on top of that in games purchases n loot boxs and cosmetic items. • @22hattrick

@@jesseross8690 Early Access is also a bullshit idea. Early access games can get ruined in that stage because developers do not stress enough that the game in that state is unfinished and lacking polish. So many people are expecting perfection going into an early access title that they lose faith in the game. It needs to be called public beta-testing and players need to be vetted and selected based on their understanding that the game is unfinished. Also, a beta-test shouldn't be the only type of quality control. Playtesters are specifically trained in what they do and have entire skillsets devoted to trying to break a game and find bugs. The average beta tester is not going to spend an entire day in one section of a level trying to clip through walls and check collision detection and texture quality on everything. The average player just doesn't know what to look for trying to find bugs.

The politicians want to win the younger people over by fighting this, they realise it's a quick way to get easy votes and it's actually in the gambling law so that means it's not to much extra work.

Well while I can't exactly say what they are going to do precisely it's high possible they could petition a ban on those games.
We had televised gambling games on a couple of channels, where you had to call the channel to participate the contest. (You had to be lucky, to be one of the chosen ones to enter the contest and then had to answer the questions correctly, every minute you called you paid money)
They banned those because it was impossible to check the age and it was a form of gambling that didn't follow the casino laws.
So in theory they could do the same with games that have loot boxes that are monetized and chance based, though I think it's more likely they will ask for a fine.

Why ? -They feel they can because they make a good part of their money on easy scam schemes, it started on their sports games with card systems (Ultimate team challenge, my team...), I mean, why try to reinvent th wheel when you can sell the updates for your sport games full price every year, AND packed them with MT. And it's now spreading to other big names who smelled the big bucks.
In the long run, it will come and bite'em in the ass. By trying to push this pay to win systems everywhere, they're disconnecting more and more with real gamers. And you make games to satisfy gamers, not shareholders.

"Every game, at some point, in some way has currency and they're trying to get additional revenue from each player that plays the game." I can counter this statement with the mention of *one* game series... Dark Souls. While it is technically true that the player contributes additional revenue in the form of buying the DLC, *that* is an actual choice and in-game progression speed is completely in the hands of the player. The gamer doesn't need to go out and spend additional money just to progress faster, and can gather literally everything they need in the game *at release*
Oh... and that bs about skipping the progression... Funny thing really...
I play games *for* the progression... for the experience... and sometimes for the challenge of games like Dark Souls. If you want me to spend $60 on a game *each* time, then I expect my money's worth... which entirely my right as a consumer. If you eliminate my ability to enjoy the game, to simply blow through it in a matter of a small number of hours, then I feel like I'm being cheated.
It's bs like these practices that is pushing me to go *back to previous generations* of gaming.

I like where all of our minds are right now. So much that I'm smiling from ear to ear. Love what Belgium is doing. They need to do more. They need to push harder and expose this nonsense, all while informing other governments (if at all possible) get the rest of the world involved. Sadly though, our comments and how we truly feel (and whatever influence Belgium can have on the rest of the world) will not reach the ears of the NBA 2k fans in the U.S.A... the main ones condoning this behavior from NBA 2k developers. I hear it all the time. "I'm getting the game because my friends are getting it." Or my favorite, "I love to play NBA 2k, it's the best basketball game out and the VC is optional." Then they turn around and say, "If you don't buy the VC, you'll be behind everyone else." The most blatantly ignorant bunches of fans I have ever encountered. Then they start to complain about how the game is trash weeks later. Then they start to hope that the next NBA 2k is better and not so VC heavily induced. They are easily manipulated because the NBA 2k devs disguise their tactics and implement new gimmicks to throw the NBA 2k fanbase off of their scent. They complain and complain and want change but then they keep purchasing the game EVERY YEAR hoping for a change. The true definition of insanity has a new meaning. DEFINITION: INSANITY (n)> To be a NBA 2k fan. < that my friends is the new meaning. Share it with the world, contact the dictionary making people. Webster,etc... The NBA 2k fans talk with their mouths but never their wallets. Therefore, change can never be induced. It's up to use wise ones to attack these greedy devs from different fronts of gaming in Hope's of one day not only influence the NBA 2k fanbase, but to also get other parties involved (government maybe) to save gaming and these greedy practices by malicious intent producers and developers. We have to fight the NBA 2k fanbase battle because they are too stupid to fight it themselves.

I'm from Thailand. U just summarize the mentality of 2k fans in my country as well, except they are even more defensive & pathetic.

Whomever supports Loot Boxes should be beaten: these are the people that are responsible for the current corporate greed that destroys games, and puts out garbage games in the process.

Not beaten. I understand your frustration but let's not attack people physically. It's kool I have said the same things you just did before but that's just me getting emotional as you are right now.
They are fucking idiots though and I wish these corporate ass kissers would fuck off for the good of gaming...

You know who's in support of microtransactions? Little dumb ass kids basically with their parents credit card hooked up to their account. This is what theyre growing up with so they think its normal to pay for in game items with real money. Dont get me wrong, it was around when I was young too, but mainly in Free to play MMO games for PC. However, I'm glad ive never made one microtransaction purchase in my life.

To those in Belgium: please contact your local representatives and let them know that you support their work, and want them to push against micro-transactions and loot boxes even harder.
