    I remembered when I was in middle school and we had to read this book in class. I all was wanted to read it again, because I never finished the story, and couldn't remember the name. Came across this video and the moment I heard plane crash and turtle eggs memories of being back in class reading this book came back to me. I'm going to pick up this book one day and read it.

    I was introduced to this book by a couple of strangers while I was on vacation when I was around 13 or 14. I met a man and woman when I was traveling from Florida to Michigan and Wisconsin in my grandpa's RV. At an RV park I met a random couple a man and woman who was traveling by motorcycle.For some reason they seemed fascinated by me and we talked, they told me about the two books. Although it wasn't smart I gave them a mailing address when we parted ways and they wrote me a letter containing the books. Unfortunately I never took the time to write them back and lost the letter. As a child sharing one's address with a stranger was absolutely stupid of course, but I'm glad I did it. I always feel bad I never wrote them back, they probably never knew I got the books sure because of that. This was around 2007 or so. But I did get the books and I did read them and I did enjoy it. If you were that random couple I met in some random state in 2007 or so who rode motorcycles and told me about the books and took the time to mail them to me, thanks I greatly appreciate it and sorry I never wrote back.

    I read this as a kid, and loved it so much because I always had carried a hatchet around when I was younger for chopping down trees to build forts and etc. I read the Transall Saga after this, which is a similar sci-fi variation of the same situation, authored by Paulson as well. They are both fantastic books, and I'm truly glad to have experienced their influence.

    About the book Hatchet, the part of the book where he goes underwater into the submerged
    airplane with a month old rotting corpse right there in the plane too is
    quite a psychological thriller for a young child. They had us read
    this when we were in 8th or 9th grade if i can remember correcty, which
    means i was about 13 years old.

    If you're a schoolkid and you have to read this and you think it sucks, it gets a lot better. There's a psychological shift Brian develops and he goes into survival mode. He's kind of a weak kid until then. Stick with it. This book is incredible.

    Quicker version.
    Brian is flying to Canada to meet his father. His mother gave him a hatchet because they were going into the wilderness to hunt. (i think i forgot) His pilot had a heart attack and died, he crashed into the Canadian wilderness and lived. He was very hungry and ate fish, he built a house and animals attacked him. Basically the same thing happened and there was a tornado. (In the movie but idk abt the book) He went to the plane, and the hatchet fell into the water so he got it back up. He kicked and broke down a part of the plane and got the survival pack. The pilot got eaten by fish.. (if you watch the movie once you see Brian going to the plane with a piece of wood cover your eyes .) He screamed and went back. And then he ate the food in it and another pilot came, Then he got saved. The end :3

  • @Oshawotttttt
    @Oshawotttttt 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I remember reading this in 4th grade. Our teacher was having us follow along with an audio book, and we got to the part when the pilot has a heart attack. I remember the pilot mentioning in the book how it felt like his chest was coming apart, and I envisioned the guys heart quite literally ripping his chest open from the inside out. Afterwards, I start feeling kinda lightheaded, so I go over and let my teacher know I’m feeling kinda funny. She just kinda dismissed it and told me to go back to my seat. I turn around, take at least 5 steps, and passed out. I hit my head on the giant ac unit they had in the wall and knocked over a couple books, but overall I was fine.

    I see you have a Cessna 406, but it is not a twin Cessna 406. On page 24, when the engine runs out of fuel, the text says “the engine coughed,” meaning only one engine. If you look up Cessna 406 bush plane (bush plane is mentioned on page 1) you will see pictures of a single engine high wing. No hate, I’m just doing a book report on this book and wanted to share my view.

    I like the part in the book you didn’t mention where when he dove under water he realized that the fish he had been eating all that time were eating the flesh off of the dead pilot. Hence he was probably eating bits of human flesh.
