- Now back into riding with my recently acquired Yamaha R1 (Big Bang), I'm rubbing shoulders with other bikers and bike groups and it wasn't long before the realities of this world stopped being a distant memory. I thought I'd give my thoughts and comments on the worse aspects of being a biker.

Riding a bike is the best therapy in the world, it's done me more good than anything else. Ride safe mate, I'll be watching your channel from now on..... That sounded creepy it wasn't supposed to, just meaning I've subscribed.

From my 40 years of riding experience, London is by far the most dangerous to ride. I since moved up north and regularly go out with friends and long weekends on our bike . Yes, the ride syle is much different as you're riding much faster but less traffic . I trully enjoyed watchiing this as it reminded me of my london days. You were stop on and being switched on. Bless to the biker family where ever you may ride... . Planning my European tour next year .
@@tonygatt1481 it’s tough in London, but for me, most of my travelling has taken place in London so I’m use to it. I do want to be part of a European trip one day. Something I’ve wanted to do for a while and was considering a tourer of some sort, now I have this, I’m thinking tank bag, big back pack and a back roller and heat pads 😅.
It’s good to hear from some of the senior riders and sounds like some good roads to ride up there. Keep enjoying and as always stay safe.

Man's making this R1 look about 3 inches wide through the gaps. Big props on the riding, big props on the advice your giving. Mixed signals on the warnings about things being out of your control that could yeet you off while also riding without your lid done up but otherwise a great vlog 😅

Being in the biker GCs I’ve seen a few people pass away … big reminder on why you gotta ride safe and be super aware of other road users

„Ride as if everyone is trying to kill you” is exactly the principle I always try to follow when I am on my bike. It sounds a bit extreme at first but I think it's necessary because many road users are ignorant, incompetent or aggressive. And let's not forget that there are people who hate motorcyclists or drive drunk or under the influence of drugs or are just criminals.

The only weather I didn't ride in was snow/ ice and high winds. I did this for around 35 years. 😊
@@KPP365 snow and ice was a no no too for the most part, but even on them frosty mornings I use to commute on my gixxer 600. It was an interesting time
Just found your channel... I'm looking forward to hearing your insights for the other type of vehicles you drive. I've been riding for 35yrs + a few 😉and the best advice I have ever been given or give to new/inexperienced riders is Ride your ride! if your not comfortable filtering don't do it, don't be pressured by others to ride faster than you feel is good for you. If your friends are pressuring you to do things you are not 100% comfortable doing they are not really friends.. this is how we maximise our chances of not becoming a stat. Stay Aware, Stay Safe 😀
@@Keridus amen brother, I’m right there with you. Leave the ego at home and ride your ride. If I join a group, i always try to get the destination so that if we split up/ I fall behind/ miss a light and they keep going, there’s no pressure for me to try and catch up, I’ll get there when I get there.
What’s your current “weapon” of fun?
@@TKRydezz Currently I'm riding a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, Keeping my eyes open for a Triumph Thunderbird 1600 and that'll be my last bike till I hang up the helmet, time rolls by so quick. My days of red lining the bike and running from the plod are over, all about cruising around now and chillin out.

@@Keridus the Enfield with the sofa for a seat and the thunderbird looks like a nice beefy bike. I’ll be looking for similar in the future, probably add a windscreen to it though. But much more comfortable to ride. Hope you find a decent one

I’m in my 12th year riding sub 500cc bikes. I’ve realised the key to safely ride in any situation is constantly checking the mirrors and sensible speed. Mirrors for threats from behind and speed to negotiate the front. Visualise as one with the bike and always tame the machine what you need it to do, not the other way around....
@@Ro77cky preach brother…. The blind spot mirrors on mine, although aren’t the most handsome, aren’t going anywhere, helps massively to see what’s behind before the life saver check and yes, control the machine don’t let it control you

Great video mate you talk a lot of sense. I'm almost 50 and only started riding a year ago, always learning but I'm sure 30 + years of driving cars makes me more aware than a lot of riders I see.

@@TKRydezz Loving it thanks mate, got my full licence in April and moved from a 125 to a 700 and have say it feels far safer to me. I appreciate the dangers, don't take stupid risks and ride within my limits, still a bit of hooligan in me though!!

First video I seen of yours good to see it getting recommended, expert mentality got the best of the community lol good work sharing this info and good job sharing credentials, its not everything but definitely shows a level of seriousness that hopefully makes others listen, too many crashes this year poser culture live and in full effect, if more people worked on becoming the best rider they can instead of trying look like there already the best rider, the streets would be safer, unnecessary crashes / deaths is sad to see, and im glad you spoke about taking someone else out around you for riding dumb and out of limits, if you dont improve as a rider for your own safety then the people around you safety should be more than enough motivation, explaining to someones wife / son / daughter / mum etc that your the reason they didn't make it home isn't thought about enough, good work man good video 👊
@@gringostyl thanks man, I appreciate it. Your spot on, it’s great to think about the now but you must be ready for what could come next based on what you do now. I’ve been lucky that peer pressure has never been an issue for me and I try to share that with those around me. Doing more that your capable of just because of others can land you in hot water.
But glad you appreciate the video, im far from perfect and I may not be the best example in future vids but I’ll always try to be real with everyone.

@@garyhutson6361 😂 it gets like that sometimes. Thing about minding is that everyone seems to be in a rush. Because if that, I sometime just go for rides at night. Less traffic, the lights all on and you can soak in the scenery and enjoy the slightly more peaceful roads

@@RollinThundervlogs nice, lovely area, traffic lights galore and 20mph limits make it a nightmare on a big big bike but a lot of sites to see around that area.
I commute 50 miles into central London each way every day. Been riding over 10 years. London is a mad mix of aggressive drivers random cyclists , pedestrians who are often unclear which way to look or cross. The best thing this guy has said is ask yourself “is it worth it?”. Takes one bad decision and that’s it. About a month ago I got taken off a roundabout by a car driver who cut across 4 lanes to try and make an exit. I was very lucky and the driver saw me last second and took avoiding action. But it could have ended right there. There is nothing like riding.

Yup London is a mad city, people fighting for road positions and some squeezing in where ever they can.
Glad that it was just a near miss but, lord knows I’ve had a few. Some I could see early, some not so early.
As a driver I learnt early that if I’m about to miss a turn, just accept that the journey is gonna take longer. Would of been nice if that driver thought the same

Im fortunately outside the city. I avoid traffic as much as possible, then its just me and the road (and the random suicidal deer 😂). I personally don't filter if my mirrors dont fit and wouldn't fold them in to do what you do but I appreciate in the city its all about filtering.

Yh I tuck in to make sure I’m clear of the other vehicles and they come straight back out once clear. I rely on them a lot and only tuck in temporarily. Pros and cons of inner city riding

@@VixaPS 😅 I can’t quite remember. I’d say around 18 or so. My friend had a bike and there is a place in rainham called Cardrome where you can drive/ride or own vehicles off the public roads to practice. Spent time there before going into the main roads.
Hey not sure if you will see this but I’ve just turned 18 and got a 125 belleni and I’m also in the uk, I’m learning to ride right now and I am a bit nervous but also excited, would you recommend any tips for someone my age getting into riding. I haven’t drove yet only done some lessons. Appreciate it a lot also we have the same helmet my bro 😉👊🏻
@@aquaAEP nice, and good choice on the helmet, great minds and all that. i would say, get your self to a spacious car park or open area, get yourself some cones or use a bag, some stones or whatever to create a route, and practice your slow manoeuvres (sharp turns, you turns, changing directions from left to right in succession etc). In London or any built up city area, speed is neither a priority or the goal especially on an entry level bike like yours.
Being able to fully control the bike (with use of back brakes too) when moving at them London speeds will give you a massive advantage and will build your confidence when making your way through traffic or just cruising at slow speeds.
If doing that, I’d make sure you got some decent safety gear on and if you can put on some crash guards and protection on the bike, it will thank you for it coz you will most likely go down as you push to tighten up them turns. Also remember, clutch is king, you can rev the nuts off the bike but if you got good control of the clutch, the bike won’t go anywhere.
@ yeah appreciate that a lot I have full gear and I’m going to a car park or empty area tomorrow to practice just basic movements, I have been practicing my clutch and throttle control and I feel quite confident so far but I’m making sure I don’t get overconfident and end up flying over the handlebars lol. One more question I wanted to ask is how long did it roughly take you to get confident on your bike and navigating through traffic? Really appreciate you taking the time to reply, I’ll try and keep you updated with my progress bro 🤍👊🏻
@@aquaAEP that’s good, there’s no need to rush. It took me a couple months to get really comfortable with riding 600cc bikes. That’s what I started with so kinda jumped in at the deep end. I’m still learning though, I’m confident but there are still a load of manoeuvres that I could get better with especially since this is the biggest and heaviest bike I’ve had. For me , navigating through traffic hasn’t bothered me much as I use to cycle to commute and I wasn’t very polite so the traffic itself doesn’t scare or bother me.
But yeah keep us updated. What part of the UK are you from?
@@TKRydezz that’s understandable with how much you are use to commuting and I don’t have that issue with a heavy bike since mine is only a 125. Also I’m from Kent

Does it helpwith Riding if you can drive anything except a bike?
I have my CBT soon, gonna get a 125 for a few months to practise then look at options.
But i can drive :
Bus (all types)
Lorry (all Weights)
Anything on Wheels tbh, just not a motorbike. I know my experience certainly makes me a safer road user, fairly sure some of that will help towards being a safer bike rider? Curious to know your thoughts.
@@janesaroma I seriously believe that it helps with your observational skills. In Lorry’s you have to watch out for all other smaller vehicles, same in buses etc. As a professional driver, more time is spent on the road and you see more of the foolishness that people do.
So when your in a bike, you should be a bit more aware. When I’m riding, I look at gaps that I’d normally take when I’m in the van and prepare for other vehicles who might want to do the same so I approach those situations different.
There’s no real substitute to actually getting out on a bike but I think I definitely gives you greater perspective.

@@janesaroma nice, I’ll keep my eyes peeled. But that’s a idea I can support, build up and then if you feel you need more, step my step u can upgrade or you may find that a 125 is more than adequate. Only time will tell
3 People? In my country we lost damn near 30 or more.. lost count at this point :| a lot of new riders jumping on 600's and getting too comfortable too soon without knowing how to use the damn brakes
@@hardliner1 oh it’s terrible, the national numbers are far higher. Bikers are 1% of traffic but 20% of serious incidents.
Recently, there where 4 people in 1 day.
The 3 that I speak of is just in the small community I’ve started to follow since getting back into riding. Was at a BBQ, two weeks later got the news that one of the girls that was there passed away and in a group chat I’m in, 2 people within a couple days from each other also passed. So I’m talking specifically about people that are directly within my local community.

A lot of truth here' one constructive criticism though apart from doing your crash helmet up, is getting away from the lights a bit quicker especially in a filtering position 😮

Which in a lot of cases is true. Inside a car, you have no fewer than FOUR massive blind spots: the four pillars, often referred to as A, B, C, and D. You could lose a bike behind any one of those. For anyone coming out of a side road, I make sure I can see the driver's face. Then he has zero excuse.
Also: getting on a bike when you have mental health issues is probably the most dangerous thing you can do next to proximity skydiving. Be in the right mindset, please.
@@BlokeOnAMotorbike yup. In a car you have extra distractions too, I’m the same, I fish for eye contact, not always successful and can’t rely on it but just like when I’m in or around plant machinery, it’s all about eye contact.
And for sure, if you ain’t in the right headspace, got for a walk instead of grabbing those keys. But that’s easier said that done for some.

@@aathunder_3259 the Mimo app has been good for me. First started using it with the DJI OM4 Gimbal and it was fine. Haven’t had any issues. Connects easy for live view and playback. Not using the latest phone either.
I just got into an accident Saturday morning on the way to work geezer took me clean out when he was overtaking another car it was pitch black I went up in the air and hit the floor again and atm I’m at home with some serious muscle ligament and tissue damage and I don’t think I’ll ever ride a motorcycle again. I’ve crashed a few times before but this time I didn’t know it was gonna happen and I don’t feel the same when I look at that bike no more.
@@nothingvfx.2621 it happens. Good to still have you with us, bruised and all. Riding at night is a mother challenge in itself. Have to be super switched on and vigilant. Times like this help us appreciate life and act as lessons. Once your all healed up and time passes your mind may change, and if it does, use this a reminder of what to do and what to avoid doing going forward and share that with others.
Hope you get better, but remember that whilst we're more vulnerable on bikes the bike didn't cause the accident.

@@TKRydezz hopefully my mind does change as riding a bike this summer was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I live in an area with a lot of country lanes and no street lights. An accident was bound to happen it was just a matter of when and where. It doesn’t matter how trained you are like you was saying because I don’t make the decisions for other road users and to me my life matters more than the enjoyment I get out of a bike. But luckily I’m still here breathing and it could’ve been a lot worse. It weren’t due to bad driving too much speed just a mishap that cost me my livelihood it’s hard to look at the bike the same. What mic are you using brother? If it's the Dji Mic2 what settings are you on?
@@andreikawa69 yes it’s the DJI Mic 2. I have my gain set to -12 with noise cancelling off. I was back and forth between -10 and -12 but sticking with -12 for now
@TKRydezz i've got the same settings but i feel like there is a lot of windnoise once you're over 50mph
@@andreikawa69 so the front vent by the mouth has been taped up to limit wind noise from there aswell as the vent being closed and it’s also worth changing the angles of the mic. I have a magnet in my helmet and I place the mic sideways.
Worth trying to mount it in different directions and testing it out
@@TKRydezz i have it closed all the time and i've changed the angle of the mic as well. The only thing left is to tape the vent and to give it a go. Thanks for your reply!

Ok 😎 ill 100% shout you when I'm on the road. Just sold my KTM RC 125 which I've had since 2016 loved that bike ordered a cbr 600rr in black in July will be ready for collection in February 😃
@ that’s a big jump and a nice bike. A mate has that same KTM. Nice bike too. I’ll be waiting, looking like a few group rides in the horizon
I really wanna get into riding man but the fkn insurance is crazy looking at over 2k for everything even little 300cc's
@@SleeepyASMRR yeah It’s crazy. Even when I got this, I didn’t think it’d be that high. 12 years license, 5 years NCD and still pay about £900. But it is what it is.
If you haven’t got any no claims or anything, what you could do is get insured on a cheap run around to build that up. The no claims you build on any bike should contribute in the future.
@@TKRydezz Im gonna have a look at that too, but so far most 125s and around that I have quoted have all been higher than R3s, CBR300s. Not sure if thats because I live in Liverpool and people are stealing 125s left right and centre lately maybe thats pushing the insurance up for those smaller bikes
@@SleeepyASMRR possibly… at one point I was thinking about getting insured on a 50cc to build it up but I was lucky back then as I was able to store and insure the bike I had at the time at my sisters so that helped. It’s crazy, called for a quote once, told them the bike was 3k and with enthusiasm and complete audacity he came back with a quote of 5k asking if we should proceed. I wanted to ask him for his home address to pay him a visit.
I’m not advising this, but some people insure elsewhere to make it cheaper, but if the bike gets stolen from a different address overnight, you’ll have to prove that it’s not where it’s normally parked.

Here’s a fun fact: if you rode like that in the city here in Denmark (filtering illegal) you’d not only lose your license, they also take the bike without any warning and that doesn’t matter if the bike worth a million punds or just 500 😂 on top of losing the motor vehicles they’ll fine you a month pay - there’s no mercy in Denmark 😅
@@Pettington wooowwww…. I know it’s similar in parts of the US too but not this harsh. It takes away one of the biggest benefits of having a bike and in traffic would make it unbearable. I’d cry regularly 😭
@ there’s an even more miss benefit by owning a motor vehicle in Denmark than the authorities insanely strict rules and that is we have to pay 180 percent in taxes on top of the price of the vehicle. That means for every bike or car you buy you’re paying for almost three vehicles. In other words, what we’re paying for a fairly used Yamaha MT09 would get you a brand new BMW or Ducati in the uk🙃same goes of course for cars
How does anyone want to own a bike there? Sounds so hostile to bikers, I’d just not even bother.

I’m an older rider with a lot more experience than you. Please don’t go between cars fast and close like you do. You will get hurt bad when somebody opens a car door maybe to drop someone off. I learnt the hard way and ended up in hospital I don’t filter much at all now. Stay safe mate.

@@danp9041 😂 after that point I rode another 20mins. I thought it was my jacket that was loose and it was the zipper hitting me… good thing I chose to speak about that so I was riding responsibly.
I was a despatch rider for thirty one years and for a while I would just stick my helmet on without fastening it.
An AA rider would always nag me about it whenever she saw me and I finally started doing it up. A week later a car pulled out in front of me and I t-boned him doing 50mph, three quarters somersault over the top and slid up the road on my back.
Without my helmet fastened, I would have been dead so thankyou Emily of the AA.

Can’t of been a good experience. I’ve only ever come off my bikes at relatively slow speeds and never involving another vehicle.

Lost 3 bikers, but how many drivers were lost too? We fixate only on something that is relevant to us, without seeing the bigger picture. More people die on a horseback than on a bike.
@@IalysaArt I hear what your saying and it’s a valid point, but the vast majority of people who are consuming these vids are bikers, those in the process of becoming bikers, enthusiasts and the like. That’s who I’m speaking to and it these people who will find these types of videos more valuable. In 2022 3 equestrians died as a result of an incident, highest number since 2018 so although no death is less important than the other and this is not a competition, 3 in a year VS 3 in a few weeks in a particular community is t the same.
Elswhere 4 people had died in bike related incidents in one day and insure there are 100’a and thousands more.
So if my words can encourage a few riders to make better decisions, wouldn’t you say it’s a good thing to focus on them?
@@TKRydezz I agree, but I was counting not the total amount, but per 10k riders. There was a study done that determined horseback riding to be more dangerous than skiing and motorcycle riding put together. But somehow people are more scared of motorcycles than bicycles.
I think what should be done is getting licence for car and motorcycle much harder process, and speeding and traffic violations should have more severe penalties. Too many riders get away with just warnings. If you do wheelies down a main road, you should loose your licence, period. A lot of bikers assume that they only risk their own lives, but in reality it is much worse than that. I recently watched a video where a speeding biker collided with a car and almost killed two babies in the back seat. It just happens too often.
@@IalysaArt ah ok. I see where your coming from. People are often more concerned with the things they see and read about. They’re are so many other dangerous sports/ activities/ hobbies but if your not part of the community in one way or another, it’s unlikely that you will be in tune with what’s going on over there.
I don’t believe that stiffer punishments or harder testing requirement will really make a difference and I actually think that it could have a negative effect. That punishes the masses because of the actions of a few. On top of that, the few who may be the reason behind those changes aren’t gonna just start caring.
If it’s harder to get a license then you open up the doors for more unlicensed and uninsured road users.
A push towards additional training, awareness and a greater understanding of consequences is a far better move in my opinion and holding each-other accountable goes a lot further that having an “outsider” scream, shout and punish us.

@@justincarter2224 although not a perfect example of riding, I’m very aware of my surroundings. I’m constantly looking people, other bikes, animals, vehicles, crossings and junctions. If I know I’m around a school I usually don’t overtake moving vehicles. May appear fast but I’m quite controlled.
But your comment is valid. As I say in the vid, I can’t control all variables so I appreciate your concern.
I’m not perfect and there may be some hypocrisy involved as I do more videos but I want to give people reality flaws and all. Not everyone will agree with how I ride but I hope they will appreciate the honesty and resonate with any messages I try to deliver.
Why would children be in central London on them busy roads, there’s always one, what if a cow was crossing the road should he be looking out for that as well 😂.
