    Prepare to do everything if you're in healthcare. Please let it be within your scope. You are allowed to refuse if it's not within your scope. Safety first. RN here.

    I advise folks to get their LPN instead of CNA. It takes about a year to get your LPN. This is the route thet I took and it benefitted me. LPN to RN to BSN- working on Masters. I have given 15 years of my life to nursing- best decision I've made.

      Everyone’s situation is different.People told me the same thing but something in my heart said just go get your CNA it’s free. I got it and took the test February 2020. March I got my first CNA job at $40 hour and $60/ hour for OT. All I did was take temperatures and I got to sit. Then I decided to just go for RN, certain people discouraged me again and said I’ll be in debt. Thank God I didn’t listen because RN school will be free in September 2024. My pre-rex’s are free too.

    I've been a CNA for over 10 years; and in my experience you have to start somewhere.
    I started in 2012 at my hospital in rehab as it was my first real job working on the floors both days and nights and weekends. As he stated in the video I take vitals, get patients ready, make the beds etc. Not only that, I had to float every week to other floors where the work was even harder as doing vitals every 4 hours and having a huge amount of patients to yourself. A few times I've had whole units to myself. The most I ever had was 33 patients.
    It was very rough but eventually I found a job where I get weekends and holidays off, not being on the floor. I thank God for it because It's the best CNA job I could ever have, even though it gets busy at times. I do a lot of things CNAs don't really do since I work in a specific department in surgery. Of course I transport and help patients to the bathroom, but most of the time patients can walk which is a huge help. I don't even have to chart which is better because charting can be a pain.
    To the new CNAs out there, there's more than being on the floor in the hospital. If you don't like having 10-30 patients to yourself trust me there's other options. You do have to get your foot in the door and have that experience, but the key thing is finding the right place at the right time.

Do a lot of online research because A LOT of places have cna programs for free and it made me so sad to meet people who Paid 1300 the same cna program I did for free. You are on your own in nursing homes you are practically your own boss and tbh you learn the most. Now that I’m at the hospital I took a lot of what I’ve learned at the nursing homes and my knowledge is up there to the point of me and 1 other nurse are the only ones of of 6 that knew what to do with a prolapse rectum and my knowledge for how to handle dementia patients and elderly in general is far experienced than even the RN’s and for that reason alone I feel like working in nursing homes and pediatric dept should be mandatory for all medical personnel because that’s where knowledges is lacking the most

I've been learning about phlebotomy, about being a Medical Assistant, a Dental Assistant, etc. These jobs represent a sense of stability to me, and many of my family members (women) are nurses.
    I am learning more and more about it and I am on the fence. I spoke to my fiancée about it, and we both agree that it does seem like a lot of hard work, and while I don't shy away from hard work, things like burn out can become debilitating for me. • @thegreenhipster
      @thegreenhipster 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TriceyReecy Not the same thing. A PCT/unit secretary position is usually an LPN or an experienced CNA who is responsible for patient care and the unit secretary responsibilities. That’s the hospital double dipping - 2 jobs for 1 salary. A unit secretary is not licensed by the state to do any specific patient care but is responsible for routing the patient’s call light to the right nurse or PCT. They also greet and assist patient’s families. It greatly helps the team so the nurses and PCTs can focus on their patients in the moment. The unit secretary is also responsible for organizing paper charts, ensuring the charts are ready for the nurses, doctors and ancillary staff to document in. The secretary might provide light supervision for patients while a PCT or nurse runs to the bathroom but doesn’t do much else.

      Hi Tracey I too am and have been a Huc/cna in a Hospital.
      Huc aka Health unit coordinator aka Unit Secretary aka unit coordinator and oh so many titles for the same position. CNA aka PCT the same but eh not exactly Normally PCT title is Patient care Tech used in Hospitals more than other facilities because PCTs do a bit more “with in scope”. I am a pct one hosp and cna/huc another.
      must have the CNA cert and some experience behind one to get snatched up for the pct title 9/10x
      hope that cleared up some questions.

    • @aide2nurse
      @aide2nurse 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      correct for the most part but the Huc does do quite a bit. the hospital is double dipping. many cna’s want to become hucs and they do and they are the 1st ones pulled back on the floor should the need arrive, some Hucs think they are the direct boss to cna but they are not. It’s just more secretarial than body work

And I get to watch the patients exercise, the basic call light is for snacks or water. Private home care is awesome that’s what I do now at $40. Hour I start an RN program for free in September. After 36 hours you get more money! Sometimes pay and a half so after 36 hours in a week you can make anywhere from 30 -40+ and hour! A full shift can add like 300-400 dollars to a check after one extra shif
