I think what they are talking about is if the service animal is professionally trained there is some kind of certification that goes with that not that a dog has to be professionally trained, it does not, as long as it is trained to perform the tasks the disabled person needs assistance with.

    • @TM-ry6hc
      @TM-ry6hc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

Just Me no, they are speaking of a certificate you can get online. It’s as simple as filling out paperwork and them sending it to you; They don’t require you prove the dog has had training.
A lot of people get the certificate and vest to get their dog into places. It’s a known problem.
Also, according to the ADA, the business is allowed to ask two questions, 1. Is it a service dog and 2. What services does it provide.
Beyond that, they are breaking the law.

@@JustMe-ec2ph USSDR (United States Service Dog Registry) is a SCAM site. LEGIT service dog handlers know this... Those that are passing pets off as service dogs use these scam sites to "look" official.
This only makes it difficult for those of us with legit dogs to live unaccosted by gatekeepers asking for paperwork on our dogs. This is illegal to ask for personal information regarding one's disability or certification or paperwork on our dogs.
Everytime someone flashes that fake paperwork from scam sites it hurts the legit teams out there who know better than to pay up to 300 bucks for fake stuff.
Those with dogs who were trained by some program usually get some sort of graduation certificate, ID cards, collar tag, vests, or other such stuff just to hang on the wall or something.
Legit handlers usually leave that at home (or I hope they do) because they know it can't be asked for and not needed.
Fake handlers carry it around as "proof" they need a service dog, and flash it the second they are challenged.
I sure wish these news stations and reporters would WISE UP and research these fake registries before airing such misinformation.

So how do you prove a service dog is the real deal? I understand you can enquire what tasks she is trained to perform, but once I saw a lady pull out a signed doctor’s diagnosis because she claimed “there are no official registration papers for SA in the US”.
I’ve seen plenty of fake service dogs, mostly “emotional support animals”.

I have a 7.5 month old Weimador who is in training and if anyone asks for paperwork i 1st say you can not ask for that and hand them a ADA card and tell them the 2 question they are allowed to ask, then if they continue and dont shut up asking for paperwork I hand them my SDIT/SD vaccine record and last physical exam paper they look at me like im Looney then if it continues I may either call the authorities(cops) or just leave and dont have the energy to argue anymore and leave a detailed Google review of the facility....

I have doubts that this is a real service dog. The registry is a big red flag, since there is no real registry for service dogs. Anyone one can go into the registry she gives in the story. Seriously, just Google it and sign up. second, she needed that stick to lure the dog into a sit to put the leash on. It's a perfectly legit TRAINING technique, but a fully trained service dog would not need it. Third, she states the dogs age as 1 year old. Most service dogs in training BEGIN learning their specific tasks at this age. 1 is far too immature to be a reliably trained service dog. She's a faker.

First she got scammed going thru a registry or the dog is a fake. Also it takes a minimal of 2 years to train a service dog! Her dog is one years old. And in some states you also need the PAT "public access test". In most U.S. states all you need is a doctors note stating you need a service dog. You also need an educate yourself on the state laws. Cause in my state faking a service dog , you will be required to pay a fine and jail time. As a trainer just observing a Service dog for a couple of minutes in public you can tell if it may be a fake or in training phase.

If the manager was threatening to call the cops, she should have let him. She was in the right, and the cops would have defended her. Simply leaving when the situation gets tense is exactly the reason some individuals think they can bully handlers into leaving establishments when they don't have to.

One year old is not a fully trained service dog. They take up to 2 years to fully train, sometimes longer. There aren't any service dog registries certifications or id's in the US. I get that she has a doctor's note for a service dog, but that dog was nowhere near trained enough for public access, and it was absolutely not fully trained.

People that have service dog should carry a copy of the law about it. If they still ignore the law then call the police and threat them with arrest for breaking a federal law.
Some people are too nice and by not doing anything nothing changes. Change only happens when you take action.

I have a SD dog. I mark her so i don't have to deal with people asking me. Some places where they know me well like at school i don't mark her all the time, but they know who i am. I have been down the road of not marking my dog. IF they ask you to leave you have to leave, but you can call the cops and they will let you back in. No one has gave me crap about my dog when her vest is on and it keeps people away from my dog and me when she is marked.

So if a store lets in a dog and the owner refuses to state that it is an official service dog, and it turns out that it isn't, then it mauls someone's kid to death, who is responsible and who can be sued? Can the store be sued for failing to protect a customer?

There are no service dog registrys. You should not offer to show them a registry paper when there isn't any such legal papers for service dogs. I had my service dog at a restaurant that denied me entrance and the manager said she would call the cops. I told her go ahead. The cops made her let me in with my dog. We ordered food, waited about 25 minutes and told the manager that we were going some place else. She said the food is almost ready. We said no thanks. And left

Unless it has changed there is no registration for service dogs!!! Also this dog shows no signs of being a trained service dog. A service dog WILL BE TOTALLY FOCUSED ON THE ONE THEY PROVIDE SERVICE FOR!!! This dog tried to leave the one that requires service to check out the camera man and when playing needed to be prompted to sit by holding a stick to entice play to get it to sit. This dog needs EXTENSIVE TRAINING to be out in public. Because of all these signs I believe this is a phony service dog or one in training. If a dog is disruptive it puts a bad name on ALL SERVICE DOGS!!! Unfortunately because airlines don't charge for service dogs to fly it has created a whole new industry and an increase in phony service dogs. I witnessed a phony service dog growling refusing to lie down and being totally disruptive. Everyone who witness this now has the view that service dogs are not well trained and are a danger to the public. Once the phony service dog issue is solved there will be no longer a stigma attached. I feel a registration for airline travel alone may solve all problems. The industry for phony service dogs will dry up when there is no economic benefit for it.

@Main Street Boxer a guide dog focusing on the enviorment is focusing on the needs of the one he is providing for. Otherwise if he wasn't providing the service FOCUSED ON THE CLIENT he would be just like the dog in the video checking out all the smells and other interesting things. However they are focused on the needs of the one the are providing the service for. This dog, if in training, is not a service dog and should be designated as such. Phony service dogs are a huge problem. The fact that there is NOT a licensing body is one of the problems. I have witnessed a phony service dog in Walmart ATTACK a real service dog. Check out phony service dogs on TH-cam. You will find plenty of these dogs.

However, there is a responsibility on her part to make sure her dog is legit trained.
By him pulling on the leash, it shows he’s not as trained as a he should be.
As far as the certification, if she would have done proper research, she would have known it was bogus.

I raised and trained dogs many years, but I am sorry, I don't want to see dogs in grocery stores or restaurants.
I know your gonna say "what about seeing eye dogs", but have you ever seen a blind person shop for groceries without a sighted person? (dogs can't read labels). The last dog I saw in a restaurant was in the waiters way and constantly drooled. (left a very appetizing puddle on the floor).
when I complained I was told I could leave if I didn't like it so I went on down the road.

Start putting the bastard store managers in jail, no bond, and they’ll stay there until their trial. They are either unqualified for their position, or abusive because of their ignorance and the service dog disabled are the ones that are suffering. The United States has failed miserably to protect service dog recipients and offers no solution 😡😡😡🤔😱

No, this is what they should do to service dog fakers.

A privately owned business should have the right to serve whoever they wish or at least a free society would ensure that.
