Absolutely mate. I don't believe OP's wife had sex with AP once. I don't even believe this is the first time this woman has cheated. I think she hit the ax on the stone this time. I think other man she slept with threatened to tell her husband and blackmail him. It doesn't make sense to me that the woman who walked into another man's bed so easily was the first to cheat. Her husband never mentioned this woman's phone. This means that this woman's husband was not controlling at all. I don't believe this woman has any remorse. If she regretted it, she would have confessed everything to her husband that day.

Not only that... this woman must be at least 40 (given the kids ages). So... what construction guy just randomly kisses a married woman -- risking his job, career, assault claims, etc. No... he didn't just randomly kiss her... he talked to her, flirted with her, and she flirted back, made him coffee, managed to ask him to stay behind, etc., etc. I bet she also wore more revealing clothes, did her hair, showered, perfume, etc.

The wife confessed only because her sister threatened to out her, she has no true remorse. And even her confession reeks of trickle truth. There is no way that this installer just kissed her out of the blue and then screwed her on the couch. No I think the sex was just one time, just based on how her guilt was physically effecting her. she really didn’t go into the events leading up to that”kiss” and the couch boffing. Nor did OP even ask her for the details.
As one wise man said “it’s not important how many times she did it or with who. It only matters that she did it “. This seems to be OPs take on it.
Sorry, but no one believes a single kiss led to her throwing away 20+ years of, for all purposes, what was a successful marriage. That must have been one hell of a kiss.

Yes-no doubt she is remorseful and can be forgiven, but never can be trusted in the same way again. Trust is the most important and fragile component within any relationship. There are folks who go on Quora and admit to wanting to cheat on their partner. The former cheaters advise against letting 20 minutes ruin your entire relationship. My guess is this was one of those "in the moment" choices this woman made, and her instant regret (if that's truth) goes to show that. Chances are, this was one of those 20- minute affairs where she allowed it because it was completely against her normal, comfortable, day-to-day routine. The kitchen was a gift from her husband. What a way to "stick it to him" for being the provider for her comfortable, yet "boring" life. And notice, Joel was never mentioned as calling her for another romp.
This guy did the right thing by immediately walking away and giving her complete uncertainty until serving her with divorce papers. He dumped her, and that made her want him even more. Men see a cheating wife as wanting him around as the provider who "pays" for sex while giving other guys free sex. Women see a cheating husband as wanting to replace her because she has completely been a failure as a wife. Good for him for moving on, while she continues to grasp at hope of having him back someday. She sees herself as a complete failure now- sexual partner, cook, cleaner, mother of his kids, everything!

I was agreeing with you until the you threw out this line, " Women see a cheating husband as wanting to replace her because she has completely been a failure as a wife." My ex cheated on me and not because I was a failure, it was because he was an idiot! I worked full time, took care of 3 kids, and paid all of the bills (he only bought groceries). We had a boat, 3 motorcycles, 2 four wheelers and a lake house so life was good and we were having lots of fun. On the intimate side, we had a very "creative" and exciting intimate relationship, I can promise you it was never boring or mundane! Why did he cheat? Well a woman that was supposed to be a friend saw our life and all the toys and since I always let him come across as the "Alpha Male" she thought she would step in and steal him so she could live the good life! She chased and he let her catch him. Imagine her surprise when she called to tell me she had been with him on our pool table the night before and I told her she could have him but she would need to come get him because not only do I pay for everything we own, he only worked part time at Walmart and would not be able to pay his car payment that month! Back to the point, I wasn't a failure, he was an idiot who immediately regretted what he had done and begged for forgiveness.

Reconciliations rarely work. Many couples try, but in most cases within 20 to 36 months the relationship implodes. Or the couple stays together as roommates for the children or simply for economic reasons. This story reminds me of something that happened to someone I heard about. In this case, it was an afternoon session with a 20-year-old neighbor's son. She was a housewife but they had no children. I know about this story because I am dating the Attorney the husband spoke to. According to her, the husband caught her as she was leaving her office and they spoke for several minutes about what happens when they get divorced. Then she asked him to come back the next morning to talk because he had a case and Virginia is an at-fault state. She then went home and had an uneventful evening. The next morning heard nothing from him. So she forgot about it and moved on with her day and life. That is until a Deputy Sheriff found his remains about an hour out of Richmond. Once she read about that in the paper her thoughts went back to that evening. She always takes notes when interviewing clients, and sometimes records these meetings for archival purposes. Because of Attorney-Client privilege, she can't allow anyone to hear that meeting, but the local Sheriff and Coroner did. This man said he told his wife the same thing as mentioned in this story. As he was packing he packed his firearm. Then found my GF and she told him what to expect under Virginia law. He then drove about an hour away and made himself no longer alive. This wayward wife left Virginia as far as my GF knows. My GF was married at the time this happened. Her husband was caught by some mutual friends at a Roanoke hotel with another girl. These two events happened about 6 months apart. After she cleaned her ex-husband's clock she had a sign made. It is behind her chair at her desk on the wall. It simply says "accountability starts here" there is also another one in her firm's main conference room.

Women start to hit the wall and have a kind of mid-life crisis around that age, the regret of not having enough partners when they were young combined with the excitement and validation of someone finding them attractive is all it takes for them to step out. So this was not just him suddenly kissing her, there was a lot that lead up to this and a lot of signals from her that she was up for some fun.

This wife did not think about how her affair would impact her husband. From listening to the story, he was totally in love with her after all these years. The event destroyed his trust in her, and he could never trust her again. Her husband sees her as nothing to him now. No amount of counseling, one side open relationship would never make him love her again.

If a woman is offering you an 'one-sided open relationship' to keep the marriage together, say you'll do it. You don't HAVE to, but come back from work or whatever late a couple days later and say you did.
Woman tend not to think through this offer when they consider it, and cheaters never seem to understand the pain discovery can cause. Let her think you did for a moment, then admit you lied, but tell her those feelings she got when she thought you had? Yeah, that's what you're feeling for real.

You know while the construction went on he probably started flirting with her and she responded to that. She was with her husband for a long time and she was feeling validation and felt flattered that another man besides her husband found her desirable. I am not condoning what she did. She only felt guilty because she knew after the fact that her life was over. Her nice comfortable home and her meal ticket "her husband" would be gone. She was just selfish and only thinking about herself. She probably hoped if she came clean that he would just let everything go because of the years they had spent together. I am sure that this is not the only time she did this I wouldn't be surprised if she did this early in their relationship.

What isn't told here is what led up to the initial kiss, because it didn't come out of the blue. There must have been some flirting taking place in the days before, leading up to the infidelity; the builder must have had a pretty good idea the wife was up for it...
And the guy was right to immediately end the relationship. That's the way to move on and recover your self-respect.

Interesting story and analysis. There are things to be learned from these stories. One of the most important is that you must be careful of who you are alone with. Do not know her mind or heart was or is, but no doubt she is very remorseful. So here is another mid 40’s woman, mysteriously single.
I work in a National chain hardware store. I see these mystery relationship women all the time. Some of them have some attractiveness still. You could imagine that even 10 years ago they would probably be a solid beauty. But there is a haunted look to these women. A desolation of the soul. I can feel it. I help many of them yo do the things they need yo do to maintain their homes or repair things. Of course, there are also women who have had their husbands dump them too. Both conditions exist, of course. But the former is seeming to be on the increase. Sometimes they will wistfully use certain words as if ruminating on something lost. I do not pretend to know all nor fo I elevate myself yo judge for there is ONE who judgeth ALL. And that isn’t me. But, be careful of whom you are alone with, for sometimes things can flare ip suddenly without one even considering that it could be do, be careful both women and men.

Sometimes the ex just keeps doing horrible things to your sons and you. She told my oldest son that she wanted to buy his Suzuki for $2000 so she can give it to my middle son. She never paid him the $2000. My oldest son went to work for the mining company and moved up quickly to journeyman position within a couple of years. She asked him to take a loan out on his 401k so she could pay off her 401k so she could take out another loan. She said she would pay him back when she got her money out. My son didn't go for it and she didn't speak to him for 2 years. She ignored him at Christmas, her birthday and his birthday. My youngest son of three wanted to buy his mother's Tacoma pickup. I lent him the $5000 to purchase the truck. I took another corporate job and had to move to Phoenix. She showed up at my door telling me that she would sell the truck for me and give me the money. How nice of her. She didn't and I took her to court and won. Unfortunately she filed bankruptcy, for the third time, and didn't have to pay me. That's when I said enough and I will not have anything whatsoever to do with her. Sometimes you just need to throw out the trash permanently.

If, and it will never happen, I ever got married again or if I have an exclusive relationship (likely), I would never cheat again.
