I was there back in 2009 and throughout the years all the way to 2014. The place has become very popular to a point that it is just not feasible to go because you can barely walk around. There were years that I waited outside of the building along with hundreds of other people waiting to get our badges. They need to organized this into two locations to ease the congestion.

Lol we arent going to get around the fact that its become popular lol so my point is, they actually managed the large amount of people properly this year. No chaos, ppl didnt smell as much this year, they openes 2 entrances to the con, the lines kept moving and wasn't waiting forever, they blasted the AC the whole time. Shit just went well. Litteraly every popular con now-a-days is gonna be crowded...same as sdcc.

The people, oh my god, the people! The people alone would be worth the trip! So many interesting costumes and trinkets and accessories and mascots and etc... I imagine there's a story behind every single one. I imagine everyone I see here could talk all day about what they're wearing or what they're holding or carrying... I want to go! Please come to the east coast!

Combine LA weather with a lot of bodies + cosplay fabric, wafts of cafeteria food and the occasional lack of hygiene = 😬 It's about the same at any convention really.
If you're going while cosplayed its tons of fun. The more well known a character is the more interaction from other fans and photographers you'll get. Although I had a friend who was super good in a cosplay and he got SO SICK of people asking for photos after so much walking. We would be eating lunch sitting down in a corner and someone would come up. Your costume heavily will influence how long you stay at the con. Larger costumes or heavy ones in the summer, plus so much body heat everywhere, will make you worn out within 3-6 hours. Merch can be a huge rip off and anything you buy will need to be carried unless you got a hotel room or car to store it.
I went July 3rd, I saw online that the first two days were more crowded and no air conditioning but thankfully not a lot of people for me and air conditioning worked

Man, I would Love to be at an Anime Expo. I'm 36, but I'd be a 6yr old kid in a Lego store 😂 I'd want to experience in Japan or this one in LA.. I don't think London's Expo can compete, from the vids I've seen 😔
I must be outta touch with current anime.. many promotions were unknown to me. I'll keep watching but curious if any new merch for Rurouni Kenshin; I've liked the remake anime so far on Crunchyroll. That Griffith figure from Berserk was also lovely.
The atmosphere of the Japan Expo was very well conveyed and I enjoyed watching it I have been to Makuhari Messe before for an event, and it is very similar to that atmosphere I would like to visit Japan Expo someday...
I'm feeling disappointed I didn't even see any merch from Dragon maid, the time I was reincarnated as a slime, HighSchool DxD, Overlord, Arifureta, Rurouni Kenshin wandering Samurai, my dress up darling, my Senpai is annoying, buddy Daddies .ice blade sorcerer, I want actually anime merch not merchandise that doesn't even seem like it's anime at all!
