It’s 3 months, on the brink of starvation…they might have needed that body to make it 5 more days. They already pushed themselves to the brink of starvation NOT to have to kill one another. Probably waiting 1 more day would have killed off one of them, and sometimes people will harm someone versus letting them make the decision to sacrifice.

I would vote no, physically wouldn't be able to do the act, and wouldn't want the act done to me either. Also, I wonder if they took lie detector tests to try to prove that the others died in the way they claimed. If nothing else, just to appease the relatives of the deceased.

Lie detector tests didn't exist when this happened and it wouldn't even matter. Cannibalism is completely legal everywhere in the world in survival situations, meaning that murdering someone to eat them is legal. Laws don't exist in survival situations. And someone like you who has a full belly and is most likely overweight because of your abundance of food would never understand what starvation is so count yourself lucky, just know that you would probably be the first to be eaten I a situation like that

@@michaelwolf7840 In such a situation the laws on cannibalism aren't as clear cut as you imply. It's a case-by-case type of thing and laws vary by jurisdiction. Especially, if it's a situation in which a person was killed and cannibalized against their will, which is the hypothetical scenario I was describing.
Regardless, I only brought up the lie detector test because I was reminded of another MrBallen story.
Jose Ivan survived being stranded at sea for 16 months, but his companion unfortunately died. The companion's family accused Jose of killing and cannibalizing him. Jose faced scrutiny due to seeming too healthy for how long he claimed to have been stranded. To address the accusations, Jose voluntarily took a lie detector test, which he passed. While the test results are not admissible in court, Jose took it to appease the family and publicly clear his name.
So, in my original comment I just wondered if the relative ever questioned the circumstances of it all being voluntary, but I wasn't implying she should've sought legal action.

I've always envied people who can force themselves to eat foods they don't enjoy, whether it's to avoid offending someone, not waste food, or survival purposes. I've always had a very limited palate and if it's something I don't like, I can't keep it down.
At the same time, I wouldn't allow myself to be cannibalized since it goes against my spiritual beliefs of reincarnation. I'd leap off the boat and swim away until exhaustion.

Tldr: if I died stranded at sea, and my comrads refused to cannibalize me over morals or the like, I'd be rolling in my grave. Same goes the other way around, waste not want not. Survival of the fittest is a damn good phrase for a reason.
If they all starved themselves and refused to consume each other's corpses, they'd just be another group of bodies in the ocean graveyard. Props to them for going through with the unspoken rule of the sea. Better to die trying than not try at all. Death is absolute, life (in this situation) really depends on how bad you're willing to go to avoid it.
