Most Pinoy singers are self-trained by simply listening to originals or covers and they sing it but put their own spin to the song which may be their interpretation of the song and their emotional take to the song!Filipinos love story lines.

In her junior years in college, they (she, her classmates and 2nd year students) have musical performance required them to sing even without microphone. This was annual event in her course. If there were singing contests in our school, some contenders back out if she was one of the contestants. Funny though but that's the fact. We knew that she was the top 1 and will always be our top 1 when it comes to singing. She is so versatile that any music she sang she always nailed it.

Okay 5 things are happening. 1. Dr Maceda says even as tribal groups we were a musical society . The number of musical instruments and the dispersion of these instruments means that everyone was a musician and making music was an important communal activity. 2. Latin influence. All that church music plus that Aranuez flamenco stuff, 3. Our exposure to the great American/English mainstream. Jazz and rock and roll. 4. Karaoke. Every household has one. 5. Tawag ng Tanghalan (TNT) the oldest singing contest noontime show.

Elaine Duran is the grand champion of Tawag Ng Tanghalan (Call of the Stage) in one of its seasons where the TNT boys also came from (Kids division). Most of our good singers come from talent shows, winners and non-winners like Gigi De Lana and Eumee Capili (also from TNT), Morisette Amon (a non-winner from The Voice)and ABS-CBN hs produced most of them bcoz of these talent shows (The Voice, Idol Philippines, TNT, Pilipinas Got Talent); Marcelito Pomoy is the Grand champion of Pilipinas Got Talent season 2. You can find Regine V., Gary V., KZ Tandingan, Morisette Amon, Sarah G., Elha Nimfa, et al in ASAP Natin 'To, a Sunday variety show of the network. The most difficult singing competition show is the TNT and you'll find more good singers among the contestants; Elaine Duran, Eumee Capili, John Saga are best examples but there are more of them...You can also find kids who are good singers in The Voice Kids wherein Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, and Bamboo are judge-mentors. This season's judges are KZ Tandingan, Bamboo, and Martin Nievera.

In most cases there is no training because people cannot afford to do voice lessons. So if they are good, it is because they imitate and they really worked hard for it

As a singer we usually do self training. Some actually can’t afford to pay for a trainors. There are mobile apps also in the country where we can use to practice songs and listen to it right after, like wesing,, then practice and improves sort of errors and flats, and we love exploring voices from known artists.

Pipino singers learn by imitation, then they make it their own and make it better. It is also dangerous because they are not trained to a specific skill. They can emulate different styles and put their own spin into them. That's is why they are flexible in any genre.
