I like your explanation of consciousness. This is a broad topic. We can talk and talk and never reach in to conclusion as there is always the question "what if". What I say is that may be human intelligence is not able to interpret the signals properly yet. We might be the smartest on earth. But because we can't see the other creatures or sense their existance around us/ universe, we can't conclude to say we are the colonizers of the universe. We can be the tiny creatures being watched by the giant who created the universe for reason. May be this giant have multiple universes made for different benefits. Our universe can be a big bin made for purpose. The conversation goes on and on aaaannnnnddddd ooooonnnn

Consciousness means soul . The characteristics of soul can speak think and soul is can live forever. Animals don't have soul but they have instinct.
