    I think every person that wants to be a social worker (or do jobs where they help others with their problems) needs to work on themselves with psychotherapy and depth type of therapies. I have some issues because of my past and I'm currently working on myself in therapy, it's not easy at all but I need to do this. Once I remember that one of my teachers in my university asked questions about therapy to us students, they asked us "have you ever been to therapy" and only 2, or 3 people raised their hands! This means that in my class of future social workers, very few people had the experience of therapy! I don't think it's ok....I think that the courses of social work in my country should have mandatory therapy for every student, similar to the psychology courses! In my country people that study psychology have to do a few years of therapy, it's mandatory, but why is not the same for social work?

      llamawithscarf uve made some valid points there. Unsure y its not compulsory I suppose social work is broad as in its not as restricted to counseling and psychotherapy as psychology might be.

    I liked the first two points of your video. I can’t agree with the last one though. Then I realized you didn’t specify the pay of bachelor-level social work vs master-level social work vs a licensed social worker. There’s a huge difference in the pay of someone practicing social work at the bachelor level and someone at the master level. I think that’s why there’s such a misconception that social workers don’t make a lot of money. People don’t realize that in order to make a decent living in social work, you need your msw and also your licensure. After that, doors will open so you won’t have to rely on a second income to pay your bills.

      @JasmineAmaa  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Katrina Belarmino u don’t have to rely on a second income even if you are working with bachelors degree. I think I didn’t make this clear enough. Xx

      Jasmine Ama you should make a video encouraging aspiring social workers to go for their msw and get licensed! There are still a lot more opportunities to make more money at master level than bachelor :)

      I actually disagree about the pay. But it depends on many other factors. I live in Tennessee , and earned my MSW in 2011. I did not see an increase in pay at all. Masters level social workers here don't make much at all. Even the positions that require a license don't pay well unless its a VA job. I earned my bachelors in 2005, masters in 2011. It was 2016 before I earned $40,000 a year. If you want to make money in social work, you need to go into administration. Front line work regardless to the degree does not pay well at all(again, unless you go to the VA)

    social work is such a wonderful job no questions about it. Social workers help in pulling people out from their problems and help them discover their potentials which can be fulfilling to see the outcome but along the process, social workers were far more vulnerable in terms of the pressure and other issues of concerns. I'm a social worker and from my experience, my work shattered all of my confidence.

    *She's right about her first point about who people want to become a social worker. I grew up in foster care, but i thought of being a social worker for children's services, but i changed my thought of becoming a social worker, "clinical social work" at a hospital. Preferably "KAISER" but Kaiser has the dumbest people with degrees working there. I say this because if you know someone, it's easier to get a job there, it's not what you know, it's who you know.*

    I appreciate that people get into social work and can imagine some of the things that they may need to do. Like any jobs it is flawed. Some people want to do good and some do it for the power. I have had experience with these people and I can safely say that it's not been the best experience of my life. I was made out to be paranoid, sent to a shrink and got fount to be in a stable mind. One way the can waste time to reach the 2 year end. Plagued by underbudgetting and understaffed. It's a joke that the government make money from the people that actually want to do well in this world. In my honest opinion, I can't see the benefit for doing a job like this. The stress, the funding and finding the all important evidence.

      You really have to cut out for it. And you have to understand and be OK with the fact that unless you go into business for yourself or manage to get into Macro practice, you will not earn much money, and you will not be respected by other professionals. The exception to that is if you work for the federal government. VA jobs pay really well, but you have to licensed at the masters level

    I know a certain someone who has a social worker and the social worker told him that she has feelings for him knowing that this person is suffering from depression and other thing. I also think that this social worker told him to stop talking to me because we where close friends and he blocked me out of nowhere I'm worried for this person. is this legal

      tveezy1020 sounds like there are some boundary issues there. I encourage you to Talk to a manager or someone above the social worker about your concerns. X

      If you're in the US, that is against the NASW Code Of Ethics and I encourage you to report it to the licensing board

      LadyMreya unfortunately he decided to part ways with me for unknown reasons he is doing the no contact thing with me. I just decided to let it go I did my very best for him and I encouraged him to be the best he can be I treated him like my brother. Even though he was never there for me the way I was for him. The things he did tore me apart mentally and health wise. I will always pray for him but I can't help those who don't need or want my help, friendship, and loyalty back.

    Hi Jasmine, I hope you're having a beautiful day. I was wondering whether if you haven't already, you could maybe make a video talking about your own experiences financially with being a social worker, I understand if you don't feel comfortable with sharing that information, it's just that I knew social work wasn't a high paying job, but I never knew about people needing to rely on a second job to get through.
    I love your videos by the way, they've been so helpful :) x

      The Listening Mind I’m a medical social worker at a hospital. Many of my coworkers work prn jobs( positions posted as needed) at other hospitals or in other areas that have community needs( shelters, state agencies etc). You can go to career websites and type in prn msw lmsw etc. also they do contract work in social work. There are probably are local agencies that hire for contract workers in your area.

    Ummm not sure about this but ok if it's based on her own experiences well so be it. When you're in social work for the right reasons then there is no such as it becomes personal. That's your issue. If you don't have boundaries and your values are based on money, then honey you're in the wrong business

      I'll think it depends on your degree, where you live and the population you serve. I am a LCSW in CA working for the gov and before that medical and in both jobs made 6 figures...I teach for a MSW program and I tell students to let people know a bsw alone is pointless and a LCSW will open more doors.

    Hello Jasmine. Lovely personality.
    Quick question. Whats your opinion of a social worker who ghosts her client after 2 weeks. Thats whats happening with my mom after her stroke. Our social worker just faded into the night without providing any help or advice. Very frustrating.

    • @JasmineAmaa
      @JasmineAmaa  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      buddy poole very sorry to hear this. She may have quit her job suddenly, may have moved into a new role or had a family emergency. But either way the organisation she works for are obliged to let u know what’s going on. I suggest you contact them and let them know what has happened so they can allocate a new worker or at least explain what has happened. X
