I am always amazed at radio engineers/technicians abilities to bring old tube radios back to life.

That is one beautiful radio for 1946, push button tuning as well 😍 Thank you for the shout out too Vern. I have a US built radio in my next video. Can I say, I don't get why you guys trim the top end of the local oscillator then pad the starting point at 600 or whatever frequency. I know it will end up the same but it seems odd to trim before setting the start point. Anywho... great series and I love that radio, Matt will be very pleased 🙂 Oh... tick for the hot glue and the oval speaker and the 3D printed adaptor plate ✔✔

Thanks david, I've been chomping at the bit waiting for your next one. It's the highlight of my day when one of your new videos pop up. I grab a cup of coffee and I know I'm going to enjoy the ride.

Glad you chose to put the newer speaker in. The audio is much more dynamic and doesn't change the radio operation other than reducing the current draw.

I'm a fan of all these OLD radios 📻!! Just came across your TH-cam channel and subbed 👍 to it!! Too bad 👎, they don't make the good old things they used to. Just junk at Walmart that lasts less than 5 years. Please keep these GREAT radio videos coming!!Your friend, Jeff!!

There are very few people repairing old car radios for the reason "time is money "and they make modern substitutes with
modern components ( solid state) with the same or nearly the same radio fronts but not as elegant as an original. That
being said thanks for showing that these old beauties still can be fixed up and working again regardless of the cost in
doing so. They also sound great when fixed by a competent guy like you Vern.👍👍

Regarding your Canon EOS camera and battery pack,
Canon has a DC-adapter and external power that can replace the rechargable battery.
This way you can run the camera on mains power and not relay on the battery.
DR-E10 is the DC-adapter that goes in the camera in place of the battery.
CA-PS700 is the power adapter that plugs into the DC-adapter.
BTW, I have a bunch of these batteries lying around after swapping them out for the DC-adapter.

I had a Tucker radio made by Motorola. Never got into it but did move it on to someone who I hope got her working.

There's actually 3 place that recon. The 3D plate looks good.

Nothin wrong with the hot glue on those IF cans. The speakers with the foam surrounds will generate a lot of vibrations in components. The surrounds are for bass response. It’s possible to reduce the bass response by adjusting the tone cap to a higher value. ❤💪
    Great video.

I might have used silicone, but certainly aren't freaking out over hot glue.

Never mind reconing the speaker 🔊. Just replace it with a modern speaker which is 10 times better. The rest of the radio is cool though and very interesting to see this old radio brought back to life 🙂👍

I'm not so sure everyone is shooting 4k. The majority is just 720p being upscaled before upload.

Can you help me make a voltage step down circuit for 1950 Buick. My battery died while out and I couldn’t accept a jump from any 12 volt car. Thanks

The radio may not actually drift, it may slowly "bounce" off frequency due to vibration. Most car radios used slug tuning instead of variable caps to reduce this.

    • @theradiomechanic9625
      @theradiomechanic9625  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

No, they actually drift. These sets use simple LC tuning. While permeability tuning is better than a tuning cap, they are still subject to THERMAL changes. Every radio from this period did. Including military radios.

P.S. this is why almost all alignment procedures tell you to let the set "Warm Up".
