Bryce Dallas Howard did a fantastic job creating a character we all love to hate. Hilly was the nastiest character I've ever seen, save that rotten Lanister kid and his equally monstrous mother.
I love the dynamic between minny and aibileen, especially in this scene. The way they carry on laughing and talking a little smack is something I'm used to seeing. It feels warm and familiar. ❤
By my God, imagine being well-off, privileged, all around comfortable... And still spending your time on dumb things like marking toilet paper. That's a busy work for us, poor fools. The woman has all the good things in life and still wastes it all away on being miserable. Can't buy sanity I guess.
There was a black lady who lived up the holler from my grandmother. She worked as a maid. The rich white women in town fought over her. Her first name was Helen but they all called her Mrs. Brown. She told them only her friends called her Helen and they weren't her friends. The first time one would disrespect her, she'd quit, and a bidding war would begin. They'd give her anything she wanted. Her food was restaurant quality and any house she worked was clean as a pin. I loved her. She worked for awhile at one of my friend's house. She taught me how to make cornbread! She also told me to never bake a cake or make cornbread if it was "that time of the month." She said the cakes would fall and the cornbread just wouldn't turn out right.
@@terseandtiny1746Really, did you watch this movie? The way they are treated. Being looked down on and all the stuff they were going through. If we put you in their positions you would probably stfu and realize this was no joke. There’s a reason they are maids and not part of the high class women in this movie.

I never understood racism, I seriously never understood judging someone based off the color of their skin.. I judge based off of whether you're a good a person or not.. I just don't get it! I love all people, as long as they are good people.. I will never judge based off of your race, religion, or whatever else ridiculous thing other people come up with.. I LOVE EVERYONE. I don't care what race you are, or where you come from, as long as you're a good person over all... ya know?
That’s literally the truth….but people love to make others feel inferior….its not natural it’s taught…..and the people who teach it are decrepit, backwards thinking, gun slingers who use ignorance as a weapon to get what they want. It’s infuriating
People hate things they don’t understand. Seeing someone who doesn’t look like you, some people thinks different is wrong inherently. Which is obviously completely false. Which is why education is so important. We are literally all essentially identical inside. It is just skin deep. It is melanin. No one is better than ANYONE else. We are all just people.
I think it’s a generational and historical thing. Basically when the African slave trade started slavery was based on who was conquered. Europe conquered Africa so all (not literally all I’m generalizing here) the people who didn’t die fighting or helped the Europeans were turned into slaves. They were looked at as subhuman because their culture was primitive compared to Europe’s culture. In America slaves outnumbered free people and if you look at Spartin history they were also outnumbered by the slaves. What they did was brutalize slaves to the point where they wouldn’t try to revolt out of fear of death. If their slaves revolted Sparta would have fallen long before Thermopylae. I think early Americans were doing the same thing. Brutalizing slaves so they wouldn’t kill them all. And modern racism is the natural result of putting a group of people down for so long you forgot why you hated them. And now we hate purely for the sake of hate itself. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
In the US, racism is used to help people feel more....'European/Elite'. Europe is held in high regard so many feel they are closer to being 'pure' by discriminating. Which is funny because I don't think Europeans see white Americans as anything special.
It’s the fact they can cook your food, clean your house, take care of your kids better than you can but can’t use your bathroom. I will never understand it.

Love love this movie. This reminds me so much of the Hispanic women taking care of families. We had several, lol, most were pregnant n didn't return. However, that was the plan. We helped eachother, they took care of us for several months & they saved $ for their new family. I did the same as a Single Mom, it so helped & our live-in House Keeper was such a true Blessing.
