What a wonderful pub! I love the heavy beams across the ceiling. There's a play I was in at the Abbey Theatre back in 1971 called 'Hadrian VII', by Peter Luke, about an Englishman who becomes Pope, and takes the name Hadrian in honour of Nicolas Breakspear., Hadrian being the version of the name that some Popes used. A fine video, as always. Look forward to the Roman one!
Thanks Denton. Always good to hear about your acting exploits and the pope connection. The Roman video just had to be made, as there is a wealth of Roman remains remaining!
Seeing its really cold and miserable outside I can positively tell you I enjoyed your walk filled with information and lovely architecture. Thanks Alice. 👌🇳🇱🙋♀️🤣
It all looks so beautiful in the sunshine. I visited the Cathedral back in August, it's a very impressive structure. By the way, isn't there some Civil War history as well? As far as I know, there are some rival claimants to the title of "oldest pub", another strong contender is "Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem" in Nottingham. I used to live in Welwyn Garden City, a planned town laid out in the 1920s/30s. Quite fascinating in its own way.
St. Albans in the sunshine is lovely, as you will see in the next video. Cromwell's forces passed through the town as he is reputed to have stayed in the Fighting Cocks. There are rivals for England's oldest pub, and I visited the Nottingham pub some years ago. I can only go by what I read and take it from there. Mind you, any old pub is fun to visit.
@@AliceGoss Ah, I was actually thinking about the War of the Roses. There were two Battles of St Albans. I think you mentioned it in your first video. I find the War of the Roses a bit baffling and hard to follow.

Enjoyable thanks😊
You're welcome. Part three next week.
How about a video on Kings lynn?
Next year I hope. King's Lynn has been on my radar for many years, along with Norwich.

@paulbreen8533 Yes, Some of those from the War of the Roses were buried in the church.
