Oja Manindra Konsam the editor of Sanathong is at it again bringing out a burning topic of Manipur. Sumendra a typical Meetei Yelhoumee who lives in Churachandpur narrates his story of escape to the Valley in unequivocal terms.
In every election -- Assembly or Lok Sabha -- the Yelhoumee Meetei in Churachandpur district cannot contest and field candidates. This has become their political destiny for no fault of theirs. This happens in eight Assembly Constituencies of Thoubal Kakching and Jiribam also during parliamentary elections. Where has the political IQ of Meetei professors and their ilk who opposed Meetei ST gone? How many of them know the English equivalent of the Manipuri word Yelhoumee (aboriginal and original inhabitants) written in India's Constitution? How many of them understand the Kangpokpi district boundary begins from Langol Cheiraoching and Baruni hills, let alone Koubru and Thangjing? How come they have a common agenda in opposing Meitei ST with infiltrators hardly two hundred years old who followed the British as porters and mercenaries? Haven't some Meetei Ojas been taken for a ride by our adversaries whose hidden agenda is open today?
Aren't we paying the price of ignorance and negligence accumulated over the years by becoming refugees IDPs today in our State? Aren't we like a group of political prisoners under house arrest confined within a space of 6% of the total unable to cross beyond Awang Sekmai? Can there be a shining Manipur with sinking Meetei? Can this be the idea of a resilient and resurgent Manipur?
