I wish you had said something more meaningful about each tool instead of repeating how it may or may not be a deal breaker. For example, the gradient tool is very different: in Photoshop it’s destructive whereas Affinity allows you to switch up the colours and type of gradient any time without having to delete the layer and creating a new one. Things like this are very important informations that can actually make a difference in a person choosing one over the other.

Hi Ryan, Affinity Photo has most of the features of photoshop that most people us, but it is a single purchase instead of a subscription (and it 50% off right now!). It has the added advantage of running much faster than Photoshop because it doesn't have 30 years of code baggage dragging it down. Those are the main advantages. Beyond that it integrates seamlessly with the other Affinity programs (Designer and Publisher) which makes the whole design workflow much easer than on the Adobe side.

Thanks for the elaborate roundtrip! Just to clarify some "misunderstandings"...
You should have checked the *context toolbar* in Photo more closely, that's why you missed some features that you claimed do not exist :-)
#05:05 Column/Row marquee tools are useful for low-res pixel art (games, icons, sprites).
Certainly archaic from back in the days when even 800x600 px was considered a high resolution file/screen ...
#08:26 "Perspective Crop Tool" is available as part of the "Mesh Warp Tool": select a Pixel layer, pick Perspective Tool, in the popup dialog choose *Mode "Source"*, adjust the corners, hit apply. It's unintuitive and the default mode 'Destination' does a different thing.
#09:16 IMHO "Frame Tool" is essentially Photo's "File > Place". You can change and reposition the placed file/document after the fact within the created "image" layer boundaries using the *context toolbar*, mask it, etc. It becomes Affinity's version of a Smart Object.
#10:20 "Ruler Tool" functionality is in the Crop Tools's context toolbar as "Straighten".
IIRC "Count Tool" was added in CS4 as part of their "Image Forensics" features: it just puts markers on the image and counts them. That and 3D picker is not available in Photo.
#15.48 Photo's gradients are a bit more flexible. You can place colour stops "in place" on the gradient line when you create one, rotate it, flip it, and change type before you commit the edit. Gradients are also available as a *Shape Fill Type* and become non destructive when used that way.
#19:08 Photo's "Text Frame" is for rich text blocks where you can use character and paragraph stylesheets. It's also what you get when you "File > Place" a plaintext document into Photo.
If you modify its size and boundaries It won't scale the fontsize or distort the characters automatically. There's a dedicated handle to do that and it'll then act more like Photoshop (imho) or the "Artistic Text". That one however is better suited to quickly drag out large headings as the character size and shape adhere to the frame area.
Vertical text flow requires some manual labour in Photo and esp. Affinity Publisher (their InDesign) suffers from this lack of multilingual support. Now that all browsers can handle this, it's time for publishing tools to keep up. There's also no support for variable TrueType/OpenType fonts in Affinity programs :-( We can only hope for 2.x to fix that.
#23:19 While there is no explicit "Rotate Tool", you can rotate the canvas in 15° steps via the (right click) context or View menus. Also holding Alt + Mouse Wheels, add Shift and Ctrl to modify speed or rotation origin.
If one uses a pen tablet that cannot "emulate" a wheel roation is off limits.
#24:07 to get the foreground/background colour pickers underneath the tools you need to switch Photo's toolbar into 2-column mode (View > Customise Tools). They'll then show up automatically.

I think the main reason to stick with Photoshop for me is the interactions between Bridge, Lightroom and Photoshop. I can see all my images in each of them whereas the .aphoto images aren't visible in Adobe software and there is no way to import them without exporting files as jpg, png or tif or whatever is recognised.
