I cannot believe you called that kitchen the worlds tiniest. This studio apartment is so big for a studio

    • @edelleaa
      @edelleaa 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

considering a lot of apartments don't even have separate kitchens... and that one had a ton of storage, prep space, very big sink, fridge and oven and enough space for a big table that can probably sit 8 people if needed without it even being cramped

Kristiana Noel I used to have a huge one bedroom (upstate ny, so much cheaper than LA). That kitchen was for SURE the smallest kitchen in the world haha. I had a stove, sink and fridge, there was less than 4 inches of counter space 😂 I could reach my hand from one side to the other

I got a bit of a laugh about that too. That's one of the most spacious studios I've ever seen in terms of bathroom, closets and kitchen. And you have a dishwasher AND parking?!? It's a lovely space though.

I downsized from 2500 sq.ft. to 960 sq. ft. It took me a while to sell or donate what I coldn't; keep, but it felt freeing and I have no regrets. Keeping it simple is so much easier, I especially love plants, but are careful to keep it under control and tidy. You are doing great, your place it lovely.

Hi Michel! I loved how you made the most of your space without sacrificing style or making the place feel crowded. I made my boyfriend watch the video with me again and he said the space on the wall in the entry way to your closet was for a vintage door chime niche. He's an electrician and has come across quite a few of them. I wish I knew how to insert an image of it but if you do a quick Google search with those words "vintage door chime niche" you can see an image of it. ☺

San Jose for $1985, 400 sqft, with full size washer and dryer, water included in rent, gated community with car garage. Pretty happy, to others that is crazy money but its North Bay Area CA and I'm happy.

  • @swicheroo1

For those wondering about the rent: 1600 for a studio in Pasadena sounds about right. Pasadena is kind of nice and started off as its own city but LA expanded and now it's kind of an honorary portion of Northeastern LA. I'm a landlord and rent a one-bedroom to a tenant for 1950. The one-bedroom is freestanding in the center of the city--Midcity--and has a tiny yard and fence. And washer and dryer. I could probably get more money but I like my tenant.

Its crazy how high rent has gotten... I had a studio this same size 15 years ago and I was paying 350 a month with utilities included... Its a nice apartment but not for the price... I hate to say it but the only way they'll ever come down on rent out here is after a huge quake... Earthquakes always empty this city... If people are too scared to live here, more empty apartments, better rent prices 😀

One thing about older houses/studios is the STORAGE SPACE. I lived in a small house like yours and I appreciated all the built in storage. And for your trash can... I used a tote.. target has a bunch of different sizes, but just a short square tote under the sink and put a garbage bag in it! Worked perfect!

I lived in a studio for 4 years with my husband it was 400 sqft and basically one big room with a 3/4 bath. I definitely got annoyed, But only because it was hard getting my own alone time to wind down from work. I being a nurse would come home exhausted and wanting to plop into bed, he would be up cooking dinner and blasting the tv. When all you wanna do is sleep the sounds, lights, and smell of cooking isn’t ideal. We finally just bought a house and the separation is great! He can do his thing and I can plop into bed. You seem to have a ton of separation in your home which is great! Best wishes for an everlasting happy marriage!

For the under the sink trash can idea, I used a round rubber flexible tub in black from Home Depot. I think it is sold as a way to hold ice and can beverages for out door parties? Anyway, it sits low and because its soft rubber you can easily flex it under a cabinet. I line it and that's it! I never liked covered trash cans anyway just because I throw away things often n random so pressing on a lever just irritates me as an extra step. lol. Love your place by the way! I paid $1525 in Columbia MD but got the washer n dryer n 2bdrms. I would trade it all for LA weather tho!

I have my trash and recycling under the sink. I've almost always done that depending on the place. There are rubbish bins that hang on the back of the door and pull out railings, etc. In my current house, I've simply purchased two rubbish bins and removed the lids and placed them side by side under the sink. There's room enough for all else (dishwashing detergent, etc.) and the back of the door holds tea towels, dishwashing gloves, window wedgie (cleaner), scissors to open packages, etc.

I have what is called a "Single", which is bigger than a Studio. My place is 600 sq feet and in a wealthy historic neighborhood of Los Angeles. I pay for the neighborhood, which means I pay a few hundred more than you each month, but my rent includes ALL utilities and parking. My 600 sq feet looks quite different than yours. My place is ENORMOUS because I am a minimalist. Yep, one of those. I have almost nothing although I have lived here for 25 years! I also have a giant floor to ceiling window in the main room bringing in so much light that I was once a plant lady, too, but plants are like children, dogs, and men: too much work. I have two walk (one major) in closets and a total of five (5) closets. Ha! Most are half empty or totally empty. I used to have more STUFF 25 years ago until I took my minimalism to a new level that some might call insane. I am a floor sleeper. Not having a giant bed saves all kinds of room. I have so much room for Yoga, jumproping, pilates, dancing, etc. and I save 35% of my income for retirement, but my disclaimer is that I earn $$$$$$. I live in a Single to purposedly live below my means. Most people pay to store STUFF. I instead choose space over STUFF. My bathroom is SMALL, but does have a full bathtub and shower! My kitchen is sort of small, but has more storage space than I can use and since I am well organized, the counter space is just fine. Visitors initially make fun of my half empty apartment, but after they are here an hour or so, they do not want to leave. LOL..They say it is peaceful and the open space aesthetically pleasing. LOL! Cheers to small, but not quite tiny apartments!
P.S. You have a lot of STUFF. LOL! I never realized how much space NOT having a tv saves me! I have not owned one most of adult life, but I watch TH-cam (clearly) and an occasional movie on my large phone!

Your studio is so cute! I love how you’ve found creative storage solutions. Your 600 sq ft is more organized & styled than my house lol.

Hi Michel! Congratulations in your upcoming wedding. I loved your space it reminds me of my old place that I moved from. I just wanted to let you know, maybe it's possible that you didn't of this and it may not be an issue. Please move the towels from the sitting next to the toilet or even if you have toilet paper near your toilet area. Sometimes we forget the when we flush, fecal particles and other gross things spur from the bowl and it lands on our precious clean towels and toilet paper. Move them to an enclosed area or absolutely make it rule to flush with the top down. I can't wait to see your bathroom shelve that you are going to put up.

I think I'd put drop bead strings or something to minimize the bed view when you first walk in. I really like the couch, looks great!

For trash cans under the sink you should buy the push out trash can at Home Depot, it’s really easy to instal and inexpensive

I know by the time you read this comment it will be way too late. But with those cinder blocks holding up the keyboard, it might have worked to paint the blocks and use the holes to hold wine bottles.
