    Great update, Daryl! For your international intermodal train, in addition to the 40’ and 45’ containers, it would be good to look into getting a good amount of 20’ ones as well. A lot of wells will run with two 20’ in the bottom bay and a 40’ on top!

    Worth being in tune to what containers owners are on what railroad as well. I work on an intermodal sales team for a Class One Railroad and would be happy share road specific info, blocking, loading, etc if you’re interested in elevating the realism for these trains

      I would definitely be interested

      @@EvanstonSub what would be the best way to reach out? I don’t think TH-cam will let me put an email address in comments of course

    Hey Daryl, Out East on the CSX, NS, & CP trains, the intermodal trains are mixed with domestic and international containers together, however they are separated depending on the loading facility. 40's and 45's at the head end and domestic at the rear and vise versa with a mix in the middle. Weather coming from New Jersey or Chicago. I have also seen this on the Uncle Pete.

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm thinking the closer to the west coast the less mixing.

    FYI, Your address is on that shipping sheet even though you blocked out the shipping box. Great haul! I really love the Scale Trains intermodal cars. Top quality and worth the little bit of extra money. Thanks for all the videos! Much appreciated.

      Thanks for the info! Got to remember to remove label before videoing next time.

    Hello! It’s perfectly prototypical to mix international boxes with domestic on your intermodal trains. Keep up the great work!!

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. However, I've been watching a lot of stack trains on the web and generally they are one or the other.

    Looking great Daryl! I'd love to run well cars but, alas, Alaska only runs the single height flats d/t the occasional high winds up there. No UPS or FedEx either...8 hours via road vs 12+ on the rails between Anchorage and Fairbanks. Have fun my friend!

      Yikes. Not great incentives for living in Alaska.

    Congrats on the Hobby Store Haul! They look beautiful. When do you think you'll start weathering all your locomotives and cars?

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure yet. Right now I am concentrating on scenicing the peninsula.

    Lots of comments on what’s prototypical, so I thought I’d add one more; I see “double length” UP intermodal trains across the Midwest. Sometimes you’ll see three or four mid-DPU’s with domestic containers on the head end and/or international containers behind the DPU’s. Not certain I’d they split those up once they hit higher elevations. Just another observation.

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure there is room for double length even with this space although I could double up coming out of staging.

    I was always told the empty well cars are hauling sailboat fuel!!! Took me a while to realize what was meant...😂

  • @jerryvanzant
    @jerryvanzant ปีที่แล้ว

    That is actually prototypical with some intermodal trains to have some empty well cars on them.

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is true. Seems to be more typical though for the wells to be completely loaded. I'm pretty sure the Pocatello sub train will be intermodal, maybe some empties there.

    Spring creek model trains has a ton of containers in stock. Call them, and ask them to send a spreadsheet of their container stock to your email. I made that mistake and it cost me an arm and a leg. 😂

      Their website organization is the worse. You can only browse by brand, not by type of item. Prices are also steep compared to Lombard Hobby,

    Don't forget 20' containers for international service as well. Trailers are still moved on the railroads, but they're not private trailers and not railroad or leasing companies anymore.

  • @al3441
    @al3441 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you going to have any trailers on spine cars on the domestic container trains? Still see that some typically on the back half of priority trains on that line. I think over the years it’s starting to get less and less though.

    • @EvanstonSub

      I thought about that. Maybe one of my children/grandsons will buy the house with railroad intact.

  • @2railnation
    @2railnation ปีที่แล้ว

    Walthers well cars don't run.... well, at all. I like Kato(53') or ScaleTrains(40'). Walthers are too stiff but if you wear the pivot pin they run a little better. Maybe their paint is too thick. Not even going to bring up Athearn.

    • @EvanstonSub
      @EvanstonSub  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you need 500 or so cars, they can't all be Scaletrains or Kato. Maybe need to update your track work.

    • @sailhappy100

      jB Hunt ships strictly on BNSF because of a long term contract. Recently UP picked up a long term contract from Sneider International.

      Sorry no JB Hunt on UP. Not sure about UPS or Merkas
