@@florencemarlowe JANUARY 20, 2021 Five days before the Capitol insurrection, 83 House Republican lawmakers wrote a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy asking them to uphold lawmakers’ right to carry firearms inside the U.S. Capitol complex. They cited several attacks, including a 1954 shooting by Puerto Rican nationalists who wounded five Congressmen; a 1998 shooting that killed two Capitol Police officers; and a 2017 shooting at a Congressional baseball practice in Northern Virginia, which left four people wounded. One of the signatories on the January 1 letter, freshman Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, made headlines for lashing out at Capitol Police who insisted that lawmakers go through metal detectors that were erected at the entrance to the House and Senate chambers following the insurrection on January 6. At least a dozen other lawmakers also refused, pushing their way past Capitol Police. The episode prompted Pelosi to announce a $5,000 fine for members who refused, and $10,000 for each subsequent offense. A 1967 law bans civilians from carrying guns on Capitol Hill, even if they have concealed carry licenses. But the law carves out an exception for lawmakers, who can keep firearms in their offices. You are responsible for your own safety per the Supreme Court of the United States. As was stated by some in the room, carry or don't it's up to you. 2A gives you that right and authority
You're right about the supreme Court I read one of their rulings in magazine I used to get called America's first freedom. And they also made that ruling when three women in Washington DC were trying to sue the DC Police department for not saving them after they called 911. Two thugs kicked in their door to their townhouse and the two upstairs roommates could hear them proceed to beat and rape their downstairs roommate They called 911 and we're told to stay hidden help was on the way. And while watching out the upstairs window they saw one DC police car pull up in front of the house with two officers in it cuz they could see the passenger officer They didn't have any lights on they didn't use their spotlight and they didn't even get out of the car they could see the passenger officer look at the house turn and say something to the driver and then they saw the car drive away. They tried calling 911 again and couldn't even get a response. After the noise is downstairs head stopped for a while The two upstairs women snuck down to check on their roommate and called out and found out that the two men were still there and those two men found out that they had fresh meat. The men sexually tortured and raped those women for 13 hours and then just walked out the front door and weren't caught. In my opinion they deserved to win but that's my emotional response. Supreme Court ended that on what you just said but they also stated in the ruling that the reason they lost the case is because the police meaning city state highway patrol have no legal obligation to come to the aid or rescue of the individual citizen They are not here for the protection of the individual citizen, it is the duty responsibility and obligation of the individual citizen to protect their lives their family their property by whatever means necessary up to and including deadly force with firearms. The legal responsibility of police is for the use and protection of the government and to catch a criminal after they committed a crime until they actually commit the crime there's nothing they can do, which means that you can feel really good that yes you may be robbed raped or killed but the cops are supposed to be responsible about catching the guy after you've been victimized.
2A prevents the government from restricting your right and authority to carry. It does not grant you the right to carry. That right exists prior to and independent of any government.

@@florencemarlowe JANUARY 20, 2021
Five days before the Capitol insurrection, 83 House Republican lawmakers wrote a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy asking them to uphold lawmakers’ right to carry firearms inside the U.S.
Guns aren’t allowed everywhere: They’re prohibited in the House and Senate chambers and their adjoining lobbies and cloakrooms, the Marble Room of the Senate, and the Rayburn Room of the House.

She also went into the building because they let the people in through some of doors, not all.
There were hundreds others who stayed outside and continued a nonviolent protest. Others came as disrupters and with violent intent.

For the people who did physical harm to Capitol police, made threats to ‘Hang Mike Pence,’ stole government property (the podium, papers etc) they are feeling the legal consequences.

As for the past let's go back 150 years to the old west where most towns had laws requiring that anybody who came into town in possession of a gun had to immediately hand over the gun to an authority figure such as the sheriff or to the owner of the town hotel.
I would like to hear AOC’s version of the constitution. Also if she feels that scared she should not be there.🙄

@@jhrost oh so why have laws at all if people do what they want? Abolish all laws of that's what you believe.
@@DarleneT Some laws are effective, while others are feel good legislation. This rule would have zero real world effect, other than depriving individuals of their right to self protection. Some laws hold people accountable for crimes after the fact, which is effectively what this rule would do. It wouldn’t prevent anything. If your concern is members of congress to killing each other, maybe we should make murder illegal. Or we can argue about whether or not they were j-walking on their way to the crime scene.
Why, because you're projecting your mental instabilities on other people?
Normal armed people interact with other people everyday and don't randomly start shooting.
If our national legislative body cannot agree that responsibility for the security of that body is properly vested in its security force (i.e. the Capitol Police), because some individual members believe that their 'personal' security - or their gun-toting ideology - overrides all other considerations, then we as a nation are in deep trouble.

except the ones that feel their safety is threatened are the threat. look at bobert so proud to have that pic of her kids all armed with what looks like ar-15s. the one was almost bigger than the one kid. most people teach kids how to play baseball, basketball or some sport and how to hunt not how to look like predators ready to pounce.

@binh Huynh so to have a ccl you can't have certain charges on your police record, especially violent ones. Answer the question chairman.
I'm an army veteran of 7 years, NISHAN participant, had all the training in the world, and have had and fired more different guns than the average gun owner. To this day, due to the many gun incidents I've witnessed, I don't trust anyone handling guns. Accidents do happen, stupidity happens, and bad behavior happens. I wouldn't trust anyone that says that there is nothing to fear.
They are literally the embodiment of evil

Actually she's correct. Between the doors being opened by capital police. To Pelosi refusing to bring in extra security. To Ray Epps being on video telling people they needed to go into the Capital..
Anyone can tell you they're whatever, until you look into their history.

@capnordest actually, what I wrote was accurate. Ray Epps is on camera, but has been hidden. I'm not a Republican, but if you are naive to the point you think Republicans are solely responsible for ALL January 6 events. You and others would be kidding yourselves on what really was going on.

Why do other members have police escorts or private security? Apparently that doesn't seem crazy.
This chairman has no guts and it's going to be interesting to see how he runs this committee.
He's gonna be like the parent that just sits back and lets it happen, then tells them to go ask mom when they ask him anything directly.
*Maybe decorum would improve in government if everyone has a firearm when talking to each other.*
And if it didn't we would still wind up in a better place because then we could get a whole brand new panel of people up there only this time we put in people that can balance a budget keep the book straight run a business 🤣
Congress doesn't follow standard workplace safety and health provisions ? Like any normal jobsite? The chair is severely liable as is the House for safety to include duress as well as assault. What is even the question? It's a safety health workplace determination.
Why would a congressional representative need to carry a weapon unless they fear for their personal safety. You can lock it up in your office but should have no need to have it in the house.
Tell that to the Republican that was shot at the capital baseball practice. Or Rand Paul that was chased while being out with his wife. The only person responsible for your safety, is you. Police are paid to serve and protect, but not everyone has that ability. Not, are you going to have access to them 24/7.
@@chriswilliamson806The poster clearly said “IN THE HOUSE”.
@@chriswilliamson806 I am talking about on the house floor . If you need to carry to conduct your business in running the office of congress then you fail in a leadership position.
@D S obviously, I understand why people should be able to carry regardless of where they are. IF, you're trained and licensed to carry. Why would you take that ability from them?
So, we literally have Veterans, some of which were special forces. You wouldn't feel comfortable with them carrying on the floor of they choose?
I believe it’s an obvious intimidation tactic. The same people fighting for it are the same ones who gave tours to the insurrectionists.
Shouldn't the question be, what are the gun carry congress members so afraid of. Isn't the onus on them to show the danger they face?
Afraid of? nothing but they are prepared to address that unpredictable factor if the need arise. If there had been a real insurrection, you know like the Irish Rebellion in 1916 the capitol police would have fail their task that day, any cold blooded killer can murder an unarmed civilian but it takes an individual with proficient training to protect congress and i believe that put to the test that day they would have failed and we would have lost a number of our members of congress on both sides. ultimately we are responsible for our own safety. relying on poorly trained and incompetent capitol police to protect you is not a very wise choice, remember you only get one life, who do you trust to protect yours? That is why we have the second amendment, to preserve our own life. If there had been a real armed threat to our congress on Jan 6th that day would have ended much differently.
My wife wasn’t comfortable with me becoming a gun owner, so I wasn’t comfortable with her being my wife. If you’re not comfortable with me having a gun, then there’s something wrong, because I have never hurt a fly, or intentionally broken a law, so if you can’t trust me, you can’t trust anybody, so I can’t trust you
