    I love A-frames. I've always wanted to build one. A 56 degree pitch in architectural terms is 18 to 12.
    The vertical height in feet is first in the equation then the horizontal 12 feet. 8 to 12 would be about 33 1/2 degrees.

    Beautiful home, very helpful as we are currently designing ours. One thing to note is that roof pitch is probably actually an 18/12 which is standard for an A Frame. Probably just a slip but an 8/12 is much too flat for the correct A Frame look and actually wouldn't work geometrically.

    Fun project! There is much less "wasted space" with "A" frames compared to conventional roof systems if you consider "attic" space as a wasted area. I also agree with you that that space could be much more intelligently used for whole-house ventilation (air filters are going to become the norm due to the pandemic). SUGGESTION: for your "money shot" view of the creek, one frustrating detail I often see is the post in the middle of the view. The center should be a large window with flanking windows. It's all about the view and you've got an obstruction right in the middle.

    • @KimLewis
      @KimLewis  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you on the wasted attic space of more traditional Homes and the annoying obstruction on the window configuration! Great feedback, thank you so much Tim!

      Do you even need a roof vent in an A frame if you keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter? Roof vents are for attic spaces so the attic doesn't get too hot causing the roof to heat to temperatures it can't handle. I think if you maintain your home with good air conditioning in the summer you wouldn't need it.

    I do timber framing and wow. Within a minute already questioning the framing. I know Texas don't have snow loads but x2 6x6 post. Lmao at how cheap the cantilever was built. Why are there gaps in the sheeting? Could they not cut them to fall on rafters? All the sistering at the mid point of the rafts not too smart. Personally I would fire the framing crew. That roof sheating alone is grounds for firing. The framing on cantilever is deadly. There is not even bracing on the post.
